There wee recently some pretty vile review posted for this hotel which made us a bit suspicious. I do not think those reviews ware made in good faith. Our stay was comfortable, the rooms clean and breakfast ample. There are some points that could be improved: The mattresses are a bit soft, there were no slippers in the room (but bathrobes) and the service at the spa restaurant was not helpful. Meals we had at the main restaurant were good and service also. Discovered some nice local wine (a red ... Read more

Good quality facilities- but why do I wait 25 minutes at 20:30 at night to check in? Only 2 people on the desk - one not much idea - the other occupied all the time with 2 guests. Had I been behind the tour bus that arrived I could have been how long ? On check out at 11:00- 20 minutes. PIC is the check out at 08:00 Staff with No ability to call help ? Restaurant - under staffed. Breakfast room under staffed. Management needs to wake up and provide service. Wi-FI is free and good. ... Read more

We stayed at the aquincum hotel from may 10th-14th. The hotel itself is clean and well presented, checkin wasn't too bad except that our credit card was pre-authorised by the cost of the room +£100 prior to our arrival. The room itself was tidy and well maintained, I really liked the soft beds. My main gripe is the cost of things, a pint in the bar was over £5, I was getting 2 for that in the city centre, the minibar was even more expensive. The spa was extra if you didn't have breakfast. Hotel was very comfortable, had a spa located on site and offered a nice weekend buffet breakfast with everything you could imagine and more. The hotel was located a bit far from the city sites, but walking around the neighborhood was charming, and we found a great place to eat nearby. The baths were relaxing and the the massage services at the spa were decent. I did have some difficulty with the parking garage, and the attendants there were not very helpful in explaining how the system worked. ... Read more

This was my fourth stay in this hotel. I was in Budapest for business and this hotel was recommended by my customer. I have been staying here every year since, It is very affordable and a nice hotel. The hotel is by the Danube river, so if you are lucky, you get great views of the river. For only a little more I get a business package which means I get access to the lounge where there is free food and drinks, It is also a great place to get some work done. Myself and my boyfriend stayed at the Aquincum hotel in Budapest and were very happy with the stay. We were greeted by polite, English-speaking staff who checked us in quickly. Be aware that you may have to pay a large deposit upfront for things such as the minibar use and spa treatments etc at the rate of 30 euros per night of your stay. We found our room easily and were happy with the cleanliness and size of the deluxe room, the only downside was that the single beds were separated but were... Read more

2 nights on a business trip. Way outside town and almost an hour from the airport. None of the staff were particularly pleasant or efficient, especially the reception staff. Long waits to check in and out. Expensive too. All the "hot meals", including cooked breakfasts were cold. The rooms were OK, but the 3 of us staying all had some problem or other (lights not working, broken door locks, dripping taps). We stayed here as a group on a business trip for 5 nights and it was genuinely a catalogue of errors and rude staff. Others in the group had to have rooms changed as they were dirty, my room was far too hot and by opening the windows the noise from outside was unbearable. Room service was cold food. Check-in and check-out took an inordinate amount of time and didn't help weary travellers. For me, the absolute worst was the restaurant staff. We tried to get a table on the first night and after... It is a great hotel, on the left bank of the Danube, right on the water (only a street separates it from the river). The spa area is very good for business travellers after a hard day's work and is open until 10pm, so we managed to get at least 30 minutes of swimming and sauna in the evenings. There are tourists, but, compared to other tourist hotels, you can actually enjoy your breakfast. A very nice Hungarian restaurant is nearby, just behind the hotel - good food, outside terrace. 4 of us stayed at The Aquincum for 3 nights last week (5 - 7 July). It is a little bit away from the (Pest) town centre where most of the shops & nightlife are but public transport is cheap & frequent. The hotel also offers a free shuttle 4 or 5 times a day but this gets booked quite quickly. The hotel is rated as 5* which is slightly misleading. The hotel is very classically decorated but this makes it feel dated, rather than opulent. The mattress was very soft but clearly very old with 2 large dips in. The bedroom was OK but again it looked tired and in need of modernizing. When we arrived we were shown a room which had a strong smell of cigarette smoke and we were given another one when we complained. The hotel was full and as a result breakfast was very busy. There were not enough staff to cope with the numbers.Tables were littered with dirty dishes, some items of foo... Read more

My family is having autumn trips to Budapest. it is a beautiful city in the autumn days. Staying at Aquinicum is a blessing for us. We have each Day long walking trip in the downtown Budapest and in the afternoon we enjoy the thermal spa witch is great. The location is also very nice, because in the night we can visit the Close roman walls. And ...guess what: they have a great breakfast!

I just finished a 4-night stay at Aquincum for a large business conference. It was my first time in Budapest, so I was not sure what to expect. One the positive side: it is a large facility, so we were able to get 100+ rooms for our attendees. The dining room was able to serve all the attendees fairly quickly by using buffet meals. The spa facility was a big plus. It is quite extensive, with just about every spa or massage treatment you can imagine, as well as several thermal baths that Bud... Read more

I was placed in this hotel by Viking River Cruise company due to the boat I was sailing on being unable to dock in the city. I was advised by Viking this is a 5 star hotel. This is nowhere near a 5 star hotel. This hotel flatters to deceive. It looks ok from the outside. Upon entering the hotel the reception area is quite pleasant after that everything else was not. I had lunch whilst waiting on my room being ready. The food was average, the toilets not very nice. I got to my room and whe... Read more

We stayed two nights and also made use of the spa. It is very easy to reach the hotel from downtown (suburban line H5), the stop is almost across the street. The view to the river is ok, but not too special as the city center is not visible (or at least was not from our room, though we had a deluxe room with view). The room is big enough but I don't want to see the non-deluxe ones.

Our room was lovely and clean: comfy bed, good shower... All was good. if there are any criticisms ; we could have used instructions fir the TV ?? plus the toilet seat didn't fit properly!!! Small details. The spa was amazing and spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were epic... Would definitely return... A short train ??? journey to the city... ???

the airport shuttle brought us there easily but after checking in, we had to wait a bit more than an hour before entering the room. While waiting we decided to go for a walk through the park just behind. They promptly fixed the bath as the water was not draining properly. The staff was mostly nice and very helpful. The breakfast was amazing (too much choice to try everything in only 2 days!). We didn't have time to try the sauna because of lack of time, but the dinner at the restaurant was delic... Read more

Visited the hotel for a conference. The staff were rude except for the receptionist Renata. The coffee was by far the worst I have ever tasted and every attendee said the same. The waiting staff ignored us or if they answered were rude and unhelpful. The buffet lunch took 45 minutes to serve and most of us ended up missing the next workshop. The bar at night would close without telling anyone they were doing so. Hotel seemed happy to take our money but not to give us 5* service. On the last nigh... Read more

Extremely disappointed from checking in to checking out. The front desk at checking in was put off that I was there to check in as if they had better things to do. Got to my room to see a nice non-smoking sign however the room smelled like smoke as if it has been smoked in for years. The room hvac did not work. There was mold around the sink and shower. Bath towels were like bath mats. I showed up for breakfast in the morning and no one was ready despite arriving 20 minutes after they "ope... Read more

We stayed for five nights at the end of a tour of Danube cities. We were fortunate in that we were allocated a pleasant room overlooking the river. But housekeeping was very mixed and on one day my wife and I were only accorded one towel. Food in the hotel was, on the whole, very good, but breakfast was a bit of a scrum. The chef serving omelettes was very rude to my wife. On the first morning of our stay, the tables allocated for our group had been taken over by other tour parties who, ... Read more

I love this hotel it is located only 10 minutes with the hev train from the city center. It is located on the buda side. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Wifi is free of charge and is working perfect. If you book the superior room you can also enjoy the superior lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks. The spa and welness area is a great place to start and to end your day in budapest with thermal baths of 38 celcius degrees. Breakfast room has plenty of choises for everyone. staff is he... The staff were unfriendly and rude, we arrived looking a bit rough from a walk, they made us feel unwelcome and out of place. We got to the room and found the room was dirty, the furniture was scratched and tired and the bath hadn't been cleaned. This hotel doesn't seem like the 5 star they say they are.

This hotel is very nice, a little bit outdated but in a great shape. The breakfast has a lot to choose from and a chef will make you omelette of your choice which was great. The only problem with this hotel was it's location.... no metro and no light rail to the city, only train. The only reason we accepted this hotel despite it's location is that we've been told that the hotel has transfers to the city and back. When we arrived at the hotel we realized that the transfers are only at 9:00 the e... Read more

We stay in this hotel every time when we are in Budapest. We stayed in an Executive Room. At the check-in and during the stay the staff and our receptionists, exceptionally Dora Dekany, were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and comfortable, the only problem was the mattress, it was too soft, gave me back ache. The food in the Executive Lounge was very tasty and plentiful. We used the hotel's swimming pool almost every evening. Sadly there were few guests, who didn't know how to behave ... Read more

I were in this hotel in Aguest, The hotel was big, the room was clean , for breakfast had a big restaurant but all the time of breakfast, restaurant was so crowded , very crowd that you can't find any places for seat. The hotel was far from the city center and you have to take a car or bus or train for going to city center or shopping mall. Near hotel wasn't any restaurant, But total was a 5 star hotel and employee of hotel was so kind.

This hotel was chosen for us, and despite our initial surprise at the location, we ended up being very pleased by it. The transport options are nearby and the service is frequent. Budapest is also a great place for riding a bike. We had two adjoining rooms, which was ideal for our family of 5 - many hotels no longer have this option. Our kids LOVED the pool and once if not twice each day, they wanted to go down to the spa and play / swim in the 4 different pools. The breakfast buffet was v... Read more

We stayed here in late August for the sziget festival. Me and my girlfriend booked a luxury / executive apartment and it was incredible. The room itself was furnished really nice with living room area and separate bedroom. Only downside was the shower as the base wasn't in the best condition but everything else was great. I would recommend staying in an executive room as we got express check in with all inclusive drinks and food in the executive lounge on our floor. Our friends booked a regular ... Read more

The hotel itself is modern and not pretty and about 4 miles out of town but if you don't mind using public transport (trams and trains just outside) you can cheaply explore the capital and enjoy the facilities of the hotel and fabulous spa. The breakfast was amazing and extensive. The rooms were a little disappointing. Stayed here for one night as we were invited for a wedding nearby. Bit disappointed, expected a lot more. Average 4* hotel, don't understand how could it be 5*.. Room was ok, check-in was fast, but cleanness of the room was very poor. Coffee spots on tray, hair in the bathroom, dust on the chair. On the other end, spa is amazing and breakfast is really nice. Once the room standards will met the expectations, hotel will be 5*!

The spa is a great + , but the room is slightly dusty and not that modern. For a one time trip it is okay for relaxation, the spa is opened from 6 to 22, which is great. The parking is an extra cost of 12 eur a day, which is very expensive.

Dated interior, cold atmosphere, below average rooms with smell, bad heating control, terrible room service, old bathroom, dirty carpets, dated corridors. Hotel shouts 'Renovate me'. Definitely not 5 star, hardly 4 star, more like an average 3 star. Nothing special about it.

We got a deal on a website which included flights. I am glad it was on a deal as I would not pay the going rate for this hotel. firstly it is tucked away at the end of the H5 tram track so a 10 minute journey then another 15 minute walk if you wish to Chain Bridge. We arrived at 1330 to be told we were a little early and room was not ready. Check in is from 2pm! They managed to find us a room with an 'upgrade' to an executive room. So was a little disappointed to see what the room offered. Not a... Read more

Starting on a positive note, the hotel has a great SPA, which was free for us to use. The room was nice, clean and spacious. Now to the negative... the hotel was much further from town than described online (it took us about 45 min in a fast-pace walk to get there), the personnel had a very limited understanding of English and was not helpful when asked for recommendations for dinner ect. For our last morning, we decided to eat at the restaurant in the hotel, which seemed more like a zoo than ... Read more

I stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip. The Aquincum is a decent hotel - however there are a few things why I would not give a top rating. Here are the points I liked and did not like: + Reception was really professional and welcoming - The room was well used and not in really good condition - Service in the restaurant was not very forthcoming - it seems the key competence of staff is to tell the guests what is NOT possible

The feeling of this hotel is that it needs to be renovated! It doesn't feel like a five star hotel. The rooms were not nice, marks on the walls, old carpet, the door into the toilet was not looking nice at all. The breakfast was under my expectation and the location is very off.
