Let me start by saying that I stay at The Excelsior regularly when I am in HK for business and have used this hotel over a half dozen times. The hotel is located in Causeway Bay and is near shopping, dining and the MTR system which makes getting around HK very convenient. Traveling to HK Station, Central or other locals is usually quick and easy, but expect more time to return to the hotel because of routes. Overall the hotel is nice but it is in need of updating since many things such as car... Read more

The Excelsior was clearly a grand hotel in the days when HK was run by the British. Since then it??s been well maintained but not much updated, so think dark marble, thick carpets and heavy curtains. None of this is a problem though as long as you??re not expecting smart TVs or funky lighting. My corporate rate is $1000/night for a standard room which I think is good value, much higher and I??d be looking at other options in the area. The location is great for HK Island. There is every machine (all of them are new) you can think of and also special space for stretching after workout. Definitelly on of the best gyms I've seen in hotels! Hotel rooms are small but very cozy! And bed is very comfortable! I love the pillows :) Great location of hotel! Many shops and restaurants around ! And metro station is also nea... Read more

Owned and operated by the same group that own the Mandarin Oriental. Right in the heart of Causeway Bay, very good access to transport, shopping and restaurants. Great room service menu, the Nasi Goreng is the best I have tried outside of Indonesia. Service is impeccable and while the rooms are getting a little dated, the price and size of the rooms, especially the ones with a view are very good value for HK.

This is very much an older, more down market cousin of the main Mandarin Oriental brand. The good definitely outweighed the bad: The good: Bizarrely on arriving they didn't try and upsell me the Club lounge until I enquired about it. For 2 days I had the entire place virtually to myself! Great place to have meetings. Good lunch and cocktails, breakfast was limited as was afternoon tea. Service was excellent all round. They always knew my name (it helped that I was the only one using the lounge... Read more

The lobby itself wasn't the biggest out of the hotels I've been to around the world, but the aesthetics of it has that, classy vibe. The room however was quite large. I had the room to myself so I opted for the King sized bed, and I tell you, I didn't regret that option. The room is spacious and it would have been perfect had I gotten the harbor view room. The service I got was top notch! Every time I asked for directions not only do they explain in detail, but the guy at the concierge even high... Read more

Hmmm. That was how I described my first impression of the room was allocated. It had the smell of stale aircon and feet. Not a great start. Location of the hotel is good though and you're right in the thick of shopping paradise and only 4-5 stops on the underground from the financial district. Apparently this hotel is famous. It honestly felt a little tired and fading. Dated rooms and design. Didn't really warm to the place at all. It was just 'OK'. Gym ok, breakfast ok, staff at check ... Read more

I came to this hotel on a DreamTrip. Which was pretty awesome. We had a free upgrade to a big room that has 3 single beds. This Hotel is good in location. 3mins walk to Metro Station. However, this hotel is quite expensive and not as well maintained as expected. Was rated 4 Star. Guess it's because Hotels in Hong Kong as a whole aren't that cheap after all.

The lobby at Excelsior is busy all day long and its centrally located next to the WTC building. Rooms facing the harbour are of a decent size and amenities are complete. Closeby are convenience shops, cinemas and also Cantonese street food and free standing restaurants. Front office team is great and the bell hops and concierge team is also very attentive. For a hotel with rooms starting around $250 USD / night, I expect more than what was offered. The room is relatively tiny, the amenities are average, and everything you could want is available for some rather pricey nickel-and-dime type a la carte charging. For one example, you could do a week's worth of laundry at the hotel for $1,500 HKD ($200 USD? no, not joking), or you could walk 5-10 minutes (or take a cab) to one of the nearby laundry places and have them launder and fold your clothes... Stayed a few nights on a recent business trip: The good: * My room on level 33 was large and clean, as you would expect. * Very prompt check in and check out. * Great location close to the shopping action in Causeway Bay as well as the MTR station there. * Good Portugese egg tart at Lord Stowe's on the ground floor. * Very large and nice gym! Love all the up to date equipment. The parts I think can be better: * Kinda stingy with the 3 bottles of complimentary water. I think it wouldn't hurt to... Read more

It is located less than 5 minutes walk from MTR (Causeway Station) and with exit D there is a lift that bring us to the lift so I can use my twin stroller easily. Excelsior is located at central Causeway Bay, awesome location for shopping (SOGO, World Trade Center), delicious food & awesome staff.

This hotel is in dyer need of modernisation and a full upgrade of its rooms. Whilst the views are amazing and the rooms are clean, it felt like walking back into the 1980's/early 90's when we stepped into our room. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food at breakfast was good. Location is also handy but was disappointed as did not expect such a tired looking hotel from the Mandarin Oriental group. Am not likely to stay in one again.

The room was spacious and an excellent view facing Victoria bay. Bed was firm and most comfortable . The food at Yee Cantonese Restaurant was extremely tasteful and service faultless, so much so that we ate twice out of our 3 nights stay, Wilson , the luggage porter has very quick in spotting me and came straight to assist me with my luggage and arrange a taxi despite a long queue, Wilson went out of his way to go the extra mile. The management should be pleased to employ such an employee.

If you have lunch, or coffee, or dinner at one of the hotel cafes, but you don't stay at the hotel, you have to pay an additional 60 HK$ / hr for internet. And keep in mind tea or coffee go for 60 HK$ a cup, so we're not talking about a bargain. Does it make sense to charge customers a hefty additional fee for Wi-Fi in 2016? Is that acceptable service?

Located in Causeway Bay, you can get here from the airport using the Airport Express and then free shuttle bus from HK station. Don't expect much on arrival, especially in the evening, as there was no one to help with bags, or even opening of doors for you. Check-in was relatively straight forward, but for a place where I have stayed multiple times, they could have retrieved my records instead of asking me for all my details again.
