We booked this at a bargain price in April, and were very pleasantly surprised. Staff were very friendly and efficient, hotel was clean and rooms were quiet even though there must have been between 50 and 100 guests each night we were there. Breakfast was a large self service buffet with lots of choice. Recommended.

The Ideon Hotel is a great place usually visited by elderly couples. The rooms are very nice, but a bit dated. The pool is small, but very clean and sufficient. The bar and restaurant are excellent. The food is very good and fresh. The location at the boulevard and citycenter with all the restaurants and shops, is superb. The true jewel of this hotel is its staff, everyone is so friendly, so hospitable, so cheerful, it is just fantastic. The ladies at the restaurant, our cleaning lady Virginia, ... Read more

Because when you go on holiday you don't want it to be like home. But you do want to feel as comfortable. It's the people who achieve this and the people of Crete, signified by the staff at the Ideon, are beautiful and genuine. I will whenever I can return. I would also like to mention the Galero bar in the old town of Rethymnon and again it's the people there who made my holiday so memorable. The island is beautiful, historic and still full of culture which the true traveler craves, but seldom ... Read more

The main attraction in this hotel is the location, facing onto the sea but with all the beauty and charm of the old town just steps away, it was so convenient for all the shops and restaurants but especially for wandering the warren of amazingly beautful streets. The hotel itself was everything we could have hoped for and we enjoyed our trip a lot.

This hotel has views over the seafront and over its own pool area. We had a really nice room in the old building at the rear, with pool view. For parking, they have an arrangement with the public pay car park across the road. We only ate there for breakfast, as we like to go to local tavernas in the evening, and it was fine: good selection and service. The hotel is close to the old town, fortress and harbour.

If you're looking for an all singing- all dancing, twenty-four hour crazy place that's all action - this isn't for you! Dare I use the word "staid"? and I mean that in a very positive way. No noise, no racousness, no groups of "out for a laugh" yobs or "havin' a great time" youths. This is a blissfully quiet hotel, and the better for it. The clientele is family orientated, with an emphasis more on the middle aged and seniors. It's perfectly located; minutes from the harbour (and all the wond... Read more

Hotel recommended by Sister In Law's, who have stayed before. We look forward to returning already...Brilliant hotel - very relaxed and the pool is smashing. Breakfast is fab, and the bar & snacks will keep everyone going. Our room had a balcony overlooking the fortress, and the hotel's location right on the sea is really convenient for both the fortress and the old town. The team really looked after us. Our second floor room faced away from the 'main drag;, so was quieter. Only niggle is the r... Read more

The Ideon is in a great location near to the old town and fortress. We caught the local bus to Chania, Georgioupolis and Panormo. The hotel put up a poster offering one night (27/6/16) at the Idi Hotel in the mountain village of Zaros with 2 days free car hire. This is so that they can use your room (they needed 5 rooms) so you have to pack up but can leave some of your luggage at the hotel. We took up this offer and really enjoyed having the opportunity to visit Zaros and then other resorts t... Read more

People return to this hotel for three reasons. The immediate location, near the sea and backing onto the interesting old town full of very good restaurants is the first. Secondly it is a good place for exploring central Crete, either taking car hire or using the bus station which is walkable. Thirdly the hotel itself is very welcoming and attentive to the needs of its guests. When we stayed in June most people were middle aged customers. The large sandy is an interesting but good walk away s... Read more

We have stayed at the Ideon many times and every year the hotel is consistently investing in the property and making improvements. In our opinion this hotel punches well above its three star rating. Year on year the staff in the hotel are always charming and helpful and there is very little staff turnover which must speak for how this hotel is run. The hotel is cleaned top to bottom every day by a very diligent team. We stay in the old building and this offers a very peaceful nights sleep. If lo... Read more

Situated on the edge of the old town and about 25 minutes walk from the main beaches this lovely hotel offered us all we wanted. Breakfast was better than average for a Greek hotel, the (outside) bar was a lovely place to enjoy happy hour watching the world go by. The rooms though not huge are more than adequate and all round the whole experience was terrific. For a small deposit the hotel provided beach towels - a useful asset. We have stayed in here before and will we hope one day return.

This was our second stay in the Ideon Hotel. The hotel is well situated in the old Venetian part of the town with the Mediterranean Sea literally just across the road. Since our last visit in 2014 there have been improvements to the pool - instead of ladder steps. proper steps have been built in. Having stayed at the Ideon last year it was only natural that we should return this year. In fact, we had a better time here this year than last, the staff in the hotel and in the Separe Bar go out of their way to ensure you are happy. Just returned from 2 weeks at the Ideon (26/08/2016). We booked as a couple in February with Thomas Cook for £1550 B&B with good daytime flight times.
