Our first impression of the hotel was good. The bus pulls up, we disembark, and bell boys hustle to get our bags inside the reception area. The receptionists are efficient, friendly and welcoming. Since many guests had only just left before our own arrival, our room was not yet ready. We therefore went to lunch, and had our first experience of the main dining hall. And what an experience! So many different dishes. The variety was remarkable. For those on a diet, you will be seriously challenged when you come here. Temptation upon temptation upon temptation.
Suffice to say, the food was always of a standard above what I had come to expect from an all-inclusive hotel. Warning; limit yourself at the start. You will have the opportunity to try everything during your stay. I wish I had taken my own advice!
The pools are very good. There are dozens of them! Or at least, it seems that way. We found pools that we had not been aware of, a week after arriving. There are lots of good facilities, but perhaps the best (for those with kids) is the Bamseclub. This is a day care of kids of various ages (there are different groups, based on age) and they run two 2-hour sessions, daily. They also have evening parties (6-9 PM) which cost (at the time of our stay) 10 euros per party. However, the day care is free, and rather wonderful. The girls that run it are great, coming from various countries, and speaking multiple languages. So, whatever your child's mother tongue, no doubt someone can handle it. Our daughter, 4 years old, looked forward to the Bamseclub more than anything else during our stay.
They also had an evening show, but to be honest, we were always so wiped out by the beach, the pools, the heat, that we never went, so I cannot really comment on them. However, they went to the trouble of actually building an amphitheatre and stage, with lights, sound system, etc, so why not check it out?
TOP TIP! You can get lots of free toys, floats, blow-up beach balls and such, from the Toy Swap box, which is located near the biggest of the pools.
You can also get sunbeds, four poster beds (no kidding) as well. But do not rush down to claim a bed with your towel. This is banned before 9.30 AM, and the staff will remove any property they find 'claiming' a bed, and lay it on the floor. It is first come, first served. By all means, you can claim a bed at any time, but before 9.30 AM you have to be actually using it.
Our room was very good. We were on the third floor, and had a two bedroom. Nice air conditioners in the rooms make the evenings liveable. I was not quite so keen on the pillows though, which were more akin to a bag of rocks. Tea and coffee can be made in the room, and there is a mini-fridge hidden away. There is also a safe, but you need to ask for a key at reception.
A word about the staff. They are one of the key reasons that I would choose to go back to the hotel. They were always friendly and helpful, and in many cases, went above and beyond with regards to providing the best service possible.
When our daughter got a fever, the reception staff called someone (who was currently off duty) and asked them to stop by a pharmacy on their way to work, in order to purchase children's paracetamol. She delivered the medicine that evening. They also loaned us a thermometer, so we could check our little girl's temperature. Not only that, they brought presents and balloons for our daughter to cheer her up.
All in all, I have to say that the ladies at reception, in particular Fay, were wonderful. Kisses and hugs to you all.
If you were in any doubt about this hotel, then let me put your mind at ease. I am about as critical a traveller as they come. And I had a blast!
