A short trip across the bay from Plaka, this former leper colony, exudes a stange aura of reverance mixed with sadness and history. It felt strange to stand in the middle of the village looking across the beautiful bay and realising that the people who lived there were prisoners in their own homes Definitely worth a visit

We had a fantastic day here, beautiful views along the way. It felt strange to stand in the middle of the village, looking across the beautiful bay and realising that the people who lived there were prisoners in their own homes

The visit to uninhabited Spinalonga Island was superb. The island is steeped in Greek and Turkishhistory and the remains of the olod leper colony houses and streets are incredible. A walk around the island, time permitting, is well worth the time.

I have read the book, The Island of Victoria Hislop and have been wanting to see Spinalonga ever since. Just a short boat trip from the lovely little town Plaka. The visit paid up to my expectations. Plaka is a lovely Place to have lunch, so nice.

Haven't read the book but now intend to! We picked up a 'Soinalonga boat' from nearby Elounda, here you will find free parking. Couldn't tell you the name of the boat company, there are plenty and this particular company departs every half an hour, it's a lovely twenty minute journey for ?10pp. Once there you have to buy a ticket, this wasn't very clear but we paid the ?6pp. We spent about an hour on the island and enjoyed exploring. A very interesting island and well worth the visit. Follo... Read more

If you fancy a bit of history that goes back a few centuries then this is a good place for it. Only ?10 from Elounda on a small boat. Once there its ?8 for adults under free for Under 18. My suggestion is turn left and head to the museum first. This gives you the background of the place. It makes for a more knowledgeable visit. Try and climb to the top the views are stunning. Great day for all

Went on an organised trip that included Spinalonga and we all enjoyed it. There is lots of history and our guide was very informative and helpful. The trip also include a stop off at Agios Nik which was nice. Not sure of the company who organised it as I did not get involved but I am sure there will be lots doing it. Recommended

Beautiful place to visit. Lots of history with picturesque views. Unfortunately for me I don't think you get to spend enough time on the island, after the long day travelling from stalis we had about half hour guided tour then around 15 minutes to look around on your own before having to head back to the boat.

We drove to Plaka which is opposite the island and took a boat over from there. 8 Euro each for the boat and 8 Euro to get on the island. Wonderful place and so sad. We preferred to go from Plaka as there is no set return time you can spend as long as you want. You must see this place to belive it. So real. So thought provoking. Difficult to imagine the anguish of those who actually lived through leprosy. It is kept very well with many places rebuilt to let you see how it was. Recommend you v... Read more

A good trip out. Spent the morning in Agios Nickalous then drove up to Plaka for a 8 Euro boat trip to the island. The trip is advertised as 4 Euros, but that is one way so unless you are a good swimmer, I suggest it will be 8 Euros for most. A further 8 Euros are needed to enter the Fort/Museum when you get there. The island itself takes an hour plus to walk around, depending on your mountain goat abilities and your interest in history. My best suggestion is to take your own refreshments, eithe... Read more

We visited this place in a guided tour with a small party of 7 we took a ten minute boat trip to the island and had a leisurely stroll around the island taken back in time. Footings can be uneven so may be difficult to some with walking difficulties overall I would say 1-1.5 hours to see the place with breath taking views
