The hotel was very nice with a modern look and with a perfect location, the room was clean and comfortable and staff was friendly and efficient. Did not like: 1 - On the day we arrived 19th of May, we decided to have a drink at the bar. There was a film shooting going on and the film crew was not polite at all ordering us to make less noise when speaking. I suggest that If you want to use the bar for other purposes than entertaining the gests you should probably close the bar when these event... Read more

Recently stayed at this hotel, can't fault it to be honest. We had a wonderful stay, service is good, and a great team on reception - the ladies and gents are all more then helpful and welcoming. The breakfast is terrific, plenty to choose from on the buffet, with something for everyone, and crisp white table cloths in the dining room, which I always love to see. The rooms are clean and well appointed, with everything required to make guests comfortable, as well as some nice extras - Nespresso... Read more

This is a large, modern and very centrally placed (five minutes' walk to the Town Hall and main square) hotel. Everything was sparklingly clean and well-kept. My room was a good size with a comfortable bed, walk-in shower with nice products, and decent wi-fi. It had a view over the canal at the back of the hotel, which made the room very quiet. Can't comment on any of the restaurants as I was eating out with friends (and also trying some of the restaurants that lined the canal opposite) but the ... Read more

This hotel has very beautiful rooms and the location is very good. The housekeeping staff did not do a great job though. During my week long stay the house keeping often forgot to replenish my complimentary bottle of water, and just did not do a great job of organizing my stuff around the room. Free wi-fi was not that great so would recommend you pay and upgrade to the premium.

Very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and big hotel with 3 restaurants. The beds are the best ones I have ever slept in in a hotel. They have a super soft top matress, which I was informed during check in, that staff will remove on request if you feel the bed is too soft. No need, since I love soft beds. Fantastic location, 2 minutes walk from the town hall and all the major mainstream shopping streets in the golden trangle of Hamburg's city center. Expensive breakfast (25 EUR) so I sk... Read more

This is a smart modern hotel with helpful people on reception and the concierge. It is probably aimed at business people, which is why I only gave it 4 stars - who else would pay 32 euros each for breakfast, when most cafes do a lovely breakfast for about 12 euros each? So we didn't take breakfast in the hotel, which is a shame. Our room was again very modern. Our king-sized bed had 2 tiny single duvets on it - I know this is the German standard, but they do tend to fall off, leaving you cold i... Read more

I recently stayed at this hotel during a two-night stay on a business trip to Hamburg. The hotel is nice and modern (although not a 5 star or luxury hotel), but if you are not demanding more than a good nights sleep in a clean and very centrally located hotel in Hamburg, this hotel is a good choice. The rooms are newly decorated and spacious and include all the basic stuff that you would expect from a hotel of this standard. I don't normally write reviews because it's rare that my experience deviates from the average, but I feel an obligation to give Sofitel feedback and prepare other visitors to this hotel before they book. I've stayed at a number of different business luxury hotels in the UK, Thailand, UAE, Canada, South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, and Rwanda, and have never had an experience this frustrating. The location is very good as it is right in the centre, yet a block away from the noise and crowds making it a nice retreat for both business and pleasure stays in Hamburg. We've stayed in the Sofitel in Hamburg many times before, and love this hotel. Unfortunately, this time we experienced some very poor service. We tried to talk to the manager twice, but he wasn't available. We were advised that we would be contacted but again nothing happened. Things can go wrong, but then at least someone should make an effort to improve the situation. We have been loyal customers for many years (Sofitel Gold Card) but not sure whether we will come back.

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend and were very impressed of the hotel room (luxury room). Friendly staff. Perfect location in the heart of Hamburg. Breakfast was disappointing - we had to wait about 10 minutes until we were allowed to approach the table, because the small breakfast restaurant was crowded with guests and obviously the restaurant staff was less motivated to get the things done properly. The rooms are very nicely decorated, and in general it's okay priced. However, in the morning I was disturbed no less than three times from personal who not at all or hardly knocked. That is my biggest complaint. Also, there was a bit of a mix-up with the reservations when I was leaving. However, despite arriving late the front desk personal was another thing - they were smiling and considerate. So a bit of a mixed experience.

The hotel is good and located in the downtown of Hamburg. Anyway comparing to my previous stay at Sofitel in Singapore, there are still a lot if things to upgrade technically. I was disappointed by the bath absence, and no tooth brush and paste could be found there, unlike Singaporean Sofitel. But anyway the stay was good. Thanks to the staff for their help and politeness

This is a beatiful modern hotel with spacious rooms en suite and very well equipped with good strong wifi, tv, blue tooth, iPod port etc. The bar is really good, great service and comfortable for an evening drink. The restraint is also excellent. Very well appointed for instant acces to town and the fantastic rail service. My only gripe is, with breakfast at 35 euros it needs to be very good. First morning it was with lots of variety. Second morning the cooked stuff was stone cold. You could see... Read more

This hotel is perfectly situated for the best restaurants, city sights and shopping in Hamburg. This is a really under-rated city - there's lots to see and we'll certainly return. Also, the bed in our room was probably the most comfortable we've ever slept in! Only one negative....the price that Sofitel charges for breakfast. The price was so high here that we opted not to pre-purchase and had a good breakfast in one of the many coffee shops nearby where we paid less than 15 Euros for two p... Read more

Everything about the hotel is high quality - the staff, the rooms, the public areas. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in for years. The only mark downs are on price. The breakfast was great, but can any breakfast be worth the 32 Euros it cost? There was no kettle in the room, which I would have expected. (There is a Starbucks within 2 mins walk.)

Rooms are well equipped and stylish. Beds are wonderful, and breakfast is second to none compared to any of the hotels i have stayed at in Hamburg (or Europe for that matter). Do have a warning though. If you try it once, you want to come back.

Have high expectations when booking a Sofitel. Just like in Berlin Sofitel last year, we are very happy with service, quality and friendliness. Particularly impressed by service to our dog, I must say. Important detail for judging the overall impression. We normally use Novotel, but once or twice a year, we offer ourselves the luxury of Sofitel

Hamburg is sophisticated This hotel is located in the AltStadt, walking distance from most sights. Hotel breakfast is a gourmet delight. Staff very pleasant, espacially the very obliging and knowledgeable concierges. Room and bathroom is large, asked and received overlooking the canal. Will recommend staying on our next visit Hamburg.

Another Sofitel experience and another great review. Having visited a number of other Sofitels around the world, I can confirm the Alter Wall meets high expectations: very central location, great service, comfortable beds and of course style and researched design across the board. I would recommend trying the Spa and also the Magnifique breakfast buffet, super quality in line with what you'd expect from Sofitel.

This is my favorite hotel in Hamburg but despite this everything that I will share with you is absolutely objective. The hotel has excellent location, three minutes by walk to the heart of the city, to the street with the fancy brands shops and everything needed for you as a tourist. Since more than 6 years for minimum two times per year we are in Hamburg and every time we are staying in Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall and during every our visit we are getting absolutely perfect service! Last year we... Read more

A great place to stay, situated very near the main square near the town hall. Similar to the Sofitel in London. The spa is fantastic has a good gym. The bedroom was great as it had also a sofa big bathroom. I would recommend it.

This is a fab hotel for the nice centre part of Hamburg. Right next to the Christmas markets and the town hall. The spa is relaxing and the water warm. Beds are amazing, really amazing. Very impressed, no tea and coffee in the room but everything else was really fab.
