This is a smoking hotel we assumed like Britain all rooms would be non smoking. this is NOT the case here. We had the misfortune to be put next door to 3 guys who left the door open whilst smoking and shouting an absolute nightmare. The staff moved us when we complained next day. The staff were very understanding. The walls are paper thin you can hear everything that is said. Breakfast for the first 2 days was fine and tables cleared but on the 3, 4 and 5 days staff changed and nothing was clear... Read more

A nice hotel, in a great locations, we stayed there for one week in 2010, the breakfast was great, other people were noisy in the hotel, the staff were a little bit rude, but it didnt matter. The rooms were nice.

Visiting Dusseldorf for the Christmas markets this hotel was in a good location between the train station and the markets itself. All we wanted was a room to rest our heads before travelling to Cologne the next day. Room was adequate, very basic but we weren't after luxury. What ruined it was the stench of smoke that filled the room throughout the night. If you are an anti smoker like me, don't book this hotel. We hardly got any sleep and checked out as early as we could to get away from it. ... Read more

Monopol is really well situated and close to subway and centre of Düsseldorf. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean however very small. The tub is the skinniest I have ever seen and tough to get in and out of. I recommend their breakfast, its well priced and well stocked. As a business hotel, it fails with its internet- very slow. No easy access to electrical plugs and the telephone didn't work. The only real issue for me returning here is the Internet. Fix that and the other issu... Read more

Stayed here for 3 nights, part of a 30 strong viper stag do !! We arrived at the hotel after a nice relaxing bus journey, check in was fast and efficient. Despite one of our party deciding the hotel wasn't for him and and heading straight back to the airport, the rest of us all agreed that it was spot on for what we needed. The Aldstadt could be reached within a 10 minute stroll, don't worry if you get lost, a simple "Vo ist de Aldstadt ?" to any passer by is all you need. The rooms were basic b... Read more

Good located, about 5 minutes walk from central train station. About the same to Königsalle with it's shopping. Felt welcomed at arrival offered something to drink. I had a single room. The room was very small but had everything I needed. However it was very hot, there was just a table fan. The bed had a generous size. Wifi was free and easy to use. Minibar had affordable prices but didn't work. Breakfast was a small buffet with most of would you like to eat. I think you will get a lot for the ... Read more

Me and 12 friends stayed here for a stag do on bank holiday weekend, although the hotel was nice, tidy and clean we had a watch pinched out of our room during the day when we were out, the reception staff were hot and cold, one man was really funny and helpful but in the other hand some of the staff were quite ignorant towards us... On the whole we had a great trip but the majority of the German ppl in and around the city were quite rude and unhelpful.

Hotel was OK but really warm the highlight of my trip was one of the maids giving me a free watch for helping her with the hover. The rooms could do with some air conditioning tho. Most of the people around the hotel are unhelpful and rude but I can't argue with a free watch.

The hotel reception welcomed us warmly and check-in was normal. The room is quite small: width is twice the bed and length also. But the smell of old cigarret smoke and something similar in the bath room was extremely irritating. The hotel was fully booked so changing room was not possible. And at this time it's not even cheap stay so based on this arrival I would nor recommend this for business use. If you get a cheap room I think this will be quite ok on a budget trip. Otherwise maybe you sho... Read more

The hotel was very tired and stuck in the 80s. Has had little or not update since then. The room was very dated as well, with the beds being soft & uncomfortable. I was awoken at 1 a.m. by a loud noise in the wall (pipework or heating) which continuously droned on for another 1 hour or more. Requested for to moved to another room due to the noise and was not dealt with in a polite manner at that time in the morning. Not a very good experience for an experienced business traveller. Very disapp... Read more

About 7 minutes walk from the Hauptbahnhoff and 12 from the Altstadt ( between them) its well located. Staff were friendly and rooms were standard for this type of hotel. Breakfast was slightly below average. Late night porter was excellent and provided beer until 330am!

This is the worst hotel I have ever been in Germany. Most hotels I have stayed in have been bet good. The low lights include Smell of damp in the lobby and up to the bed room Skanky looking bedroom carpet. Toilet seat in bedroom hanging off loo. Tierd looking decor in bedroom. Shower curtain slimy. Just didn't feel a clean place Breakfast area humid with all the windows steamed up Couldn't find a breakfast table free as all the tables were clogged up with many breakfasts not cleared up. When called to query it was told it was for lost key which was actually handed into them. I requested that the check the CCTV. SEVEN emails later and still no response. Disgusting behaviour

Generally the hotel has seen much better days and is worn out. The rooms have a horrible musty smell, the mattresses rutted by use and the whole experience unpleasant. Breakfast is very poor, not just the buffet but also the set up and the breakfast room. The quality of the hotel lies below the basic level that i consider acceptable, unpleasant. Compounded by the fact that we paid over 400 euros per night to stay here in advance (during a trade show.

I can't go on enough about how terrible this hotel is. I had the most horrific stay there in the dirtiest, outdated and foul smelling room. Opening windows didn't eradicate the smell, neither did sleeping with my head at the foot of the bed to make the bed less uncomfortable. The place looks like it hasn't been updated since the 1980's, including a proper cleaning. The mold and black hairs in the shower were enough to make my skin crawl. The whole place had a smell of mildew (with my room stinki... Read more

The Monopol is a very small hotel located between the main station and the centre of town (convenient for both). As others have commentated the hotel is a bit worn and tired but the rooms are reasonably sized, the beds comfortable, the staff helpful, and the housekeeping good. The bathroom was small but acceptable and the shower (no bath) good. The "art-work" was interesting. Breakfast was included in the price and was the normal hot and cold buffet. It was certainly more than adequate. No rye... Read more
