In general you expect that the price/quality ratio is reflecting your expectations. Welcoming by a Chinese trainee merely speaking/understanding English and not at all French is not acceptable. In contrary the French young fellow who took over quickly did a perfect job. Beach villa was clean with small attentions but I can hardly understand that when you leave your keys at the reception at 8am, your room is still not cleaned and ready at 3:30 pm. Breakfast buffet is reach and very good except th... Read more

I guess my worst experience was that overwater bungalow 45 was the worst one and that's what I got. Close to the service center so the water was oily and dark. Bungalows 48-51 were great, so If you book here and get the good bungalows it's fine. Staff was great and the activities as well, also the meal options and the pool. But if you come from very far try another hotel or request a good bungalow before booking.

The staff gets 5 stars, they are all very friendly and so helpful. Breakfast was good, but hard to compare to the private island. We did a garden bungalow since this was our second visit. The rooms were nice, clean and a little bigger than we expected. We got an overwater bungalow on our Honeymoon at the private island just months before. Couldn't stay away, we simply LOVE Bora Bora! This is not one of the fancier resorts, but great bang for your buck option when comparing to others and wit... Read more

We came to Bora Bora to celebrate my 18 year old daughter's graduation. We are on a bungalow on the beach rather than one of the more expensive bungalow's over the water. Great choice! We have a beachfront view and only a few steps to the water for a fraction of the cost. Only 2 people allowed in a room though, so we had to get 2 rooms. Lots of honeymooners as you would expect. Food is good but expensive, beach activities well organized, and staff very friendly. We would do it again.

Bora Bora has been hit hard with the down turn of the global economy. There are resorts on both sides that have been shutdown and abandoned. Only the big named hotel chains have managed to survive. I would've liked to have stayed in one of the overwater bungalows but at $700 a night the price was too high in my opinion. I opted for one of the beachfront bungalows 1-11 at $500 a night and found them charming and well kept. The money I saved paid for dinner and happy hour at the hotel.

We spent the first 5 nights of our honeymoon at bora bora Sofitel and loved it! Bora bora is magical with its beautiful turquoise water and friendly locals. We can't thank Sofitel for making us feel so welcome and relaxed. Note. Like weddings, everything in bora bora is double what Yould expect including accommodation and food. So don't expect the quality or service for the price you pay. Just enjoy the experience and beautiful surroundings. I would err on paying less for accomodation so you ca... Read more

We stayed for 9 days to celebrate my friends 50th birthday. The beach bungalo was nice with a good AC, plenty of hot water and a good size room for two. Food: Breakfast buffet was good and included a made to order egg station. The staff (especially Pipi and Claudine) were quick to serve coffee/tea. They could use some better coverings for fruit and juice as often there were bugs circling the open pitcher, but I appreciate its difficult being outdoors. The tables were over the lagoon so fun to ... Read more

Before I get down and dirty with the very many bad things I have to say about this hotel, I think a few star people should be recognized!! To begin with I'd like to recognize Lola she works hard and always just makes me smile even when I'm in the worst of moods!!! The luggage porters are also always smiling and I see them literally running from room to room with people's luggage but yet they always have the time to stop and say hi!! Now to the bad parts of this review which I sadly have to say ... Read more

We stayed 4 nights at Sofitel Marara beach on our honeymoon. We had previously stayed at Sofitel Moorea which was impeccable and very luxurious, so we had high hopes. We are normally budget travellers and this was our big splurge honeymoon. So we are used to everything being a little rough around the edges but we tend to not pay much so coming to Marara beach felt like a mid range priced hotel but at a higher end price range. Upon arrival at the airport you are welcomed by the hotels offering t... Read more

There are two sofitel's at BoraBora - the Private Island and the mainland. We had dinner and a massage on the private island - it had AMAZING views (including an impressive look out point). However, it was on a small private island - with not much to do. Honestly, if i had to go back, I think I'd choose the Private Island (it also had better wifi). But the Sofitel Marara had its merits as well. Service - Service at both establishments was definitely focused on the customer. The people were... Read more

The hotel was great. Lots of reviews complain about insects and lizards in the room. It's an island, if you want to avoid those things avoid going to tropical countries. The staff were great and I loved the fact that interns were based there too. Expensive but that is expected. The activities desk was a nice touch and you had plenty of options to choose from. The rooms were dated and the wood was bending a bit on the decks, once again expected from the beating it gets from the weather. M... Read more

There are local characteristics and then there are brand standards that paying customers should expect when they book and trust a Sofitel hotel. You need to back what you charge for the location, with food quality and service. Both of which are 3 star at best. The over water bungalows are great, getting it serviced correctly is another thing! The glorified pub food needs to be refreshed. And the constant mistakes with orders has nothing to do with the waiting team, more the management that pu... Read more

We had seen the Sofitel years ago, when we stayed at the now defunct Novotel next door, and came over to get a drink at he Hurricane Bar. It seemed to have everything -- great location, good looking bungalows, and proximity to the best snorkeling area on the island. When we came across a decently priced package that included breakfast, boat transportation from the airport, and a beachfront bungalow, it was just a question of picking the dates. We arrived early in the day after a red eye flig... Read more

Family holiday total 28 people. Stayed 4 nights. We found Sofitel Bora Bora very disappointing.....poor customer service, expensive, poor wifi, no first aid kit - health & safety lacking badly, boat transfers no life jackets, place run down and needs a refresh, rooms and bathrooms not cleaned properly, etc. Island Tour booked through the hotel very bad, waste of money....tour guide busy talking about his four wives instead of the attractions. Only thing good is the location.

Currently in overwater bungalow no. 46 and enjoying zero privacy on the private terrace due the location of bungalow across the restaurant/bar plus kitchen entrance with all the appreciated dish shuffling noises. In addition, one enjoys the generator noise from the main building. Conflict management by receptionist not professional. Consequence: I changed my bookings. Went there for our honeymoon. Beautiful place, staff very friendly and polite, room was excellent, but we went at the time of the Fiji cyclone so we couldn't do much outdoor activities. The hotel provided umbrellas and transport and recommended a few things we could do besides swim and enjoy water activities. When the storms hit the bungalow was shaking and we felt like we could wake up to find ourselves floating in the water. But it was a very memorable stay and we had the best time!

I spent 2 days at this hotel recently to end my 10 days in French Polynesia, coming from the Hilton Moorea, I was so disappointed (an understatement). This is the first and last time I stay at a Sofitel, the foyer and entrance look great, but everything else is dismal. I did not book this hotel my partner did. If you think you are going to a hotel up to the normal Sofitel standards forget it, you will be extremely disappointed. Our room was dirty and had sand in every corner and all around the edges, we ordered room service and found out that they charge 1500cpf on top of the stated prices to deliver it to your room. What a rip off in all the hotels we have stayed in around the world we have never had this. All in all a really unwelcoming place to stay so my advice is not to bother booking.

This hotel was a huge let down for me!!!! My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon in an over water bungalow. We were the most excited about this hotel because it looked so nice. First, the good news: the service is excellent, and the dining area is top notch. Everything else, though... The room furnishings and beach equipment are a little dated and could use repairs. There's nothing that can really be done about the location, though. The beach is small, and the swimming area next to it is tiny due to boat traffic.
