This is the 3rd time I have stayed in this hotel and I am never disappointed . I booked a seaview this time as the inside rooms can be a little dull , and I decided to splash out . Definitely worth it as you wake up to a wonderful view , the sea lapping on the shore and we had a small balcony to sit out on . ( 5th Floor ) . Breakfast is varied , with scrambled egg for the first time but it was always cold . Boil your own egg , croissant and pain au chocolat , proper French bread . That would be... Read more

The hotel is located on the most famous street of Nice, Promenade des Anglais, just a couple of meters from the Mediterranean, close to the Old Town, train station, shops and restaurants. It is an old hotel in an old building, so the previous comment about 1930's movie is not that far from truth. The reception is very friendly. The room is not exactly royal, but it fully meets the 3 * standards. I can recommend this hotel.

Got a rental car from Nice airport so to visit Monte Carlo and Grass(perfume making class). Parked next to hotel for about $20/night. Our early checkin request was honored by the friendly front desk staff The sound of water agaist the pepple coast is perfectly audible from the room. Truly a Jewel on the Mediteranian! The red checkered table cloth coffee shop to the right of the hotel, Bellote, served by the sweetest hostess that knew all our orders the next morning we visited the shop and g... Read more

The hotel is right on the promenade and was a great place to stay for our first few nights in Nice. The rooms are dated but comfortable and the aircon didn't work, however the hotel is quite charming and we sat on the sun terrace out the front each evening and watched people go by. The staff were fantastic- particularly Anthony who was extremely helpful with giving directions and bus info. A good hotel, but for the price, there are better places to stay in Nice.

Dropped in for an aperitif. Looked nice from the street however on the terrace the tables were dirty as were the menus... The bar man was not the most friendly! Didn't stay long. Won't be rushing back.

The location of this hotel is great, on Promenade des Anglais, at just a few steps from iconic Negresco. The price was ok, because I expected a higher rate for a promenade hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious, but it was something about the smell on the smelled like old. A part of it was under redecoration, which means that they try somehow to fix the problem. From what I saw, the hotel is mostly frequented by elder people. There was only one thing I was annoyed about.. one of t... Read more

A destination with many hotels so should try hard. Standard stuff here, average breakfast, small rooms. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Didn't have dinner here as there are so many great places to eat. Location right on the beach is a huge bonus but traffic could drive you insane.

We stayed on the fourth floor and had a french balcony. It one of the renovated rooms, and the room was large, and the bathroom also had been remodeled and was large by European standards. The view is incredible! The location is superb, across from the Promenade des Anglais, and 1 block from the famous Negresco Hotel. Also within walking distance from the Cours Saleya and old Nice. Many restaurants also within a block from the hotel. The only complaint the air conditioner is central and was hot ... Read more

The location is great, but the decor is very very old. Rooms are sad and very old. The breakfast (15 euro) is terrible. Very cheap food, automatic caffe machine, tray to take your food to the table. It is a shame that a so well located hotel is so old and bad maintained.

My friend and I checked into this hotel on Thursday 16th July and checked out Sunday 19th July 2016. The exterior of the Hotel is well-presented and the inside is very clean although appears a little basic. The location of the hotel is good as is the view. Upon arrival we were checked in by a male receptionist named Kinan who was friendly, helpful and polite. We stayed in a twin room 516 and found it to be clean but very small and in need of redecoration. There are no beverage facilities in the ... Read more

We chose this hotel mainly because of its location facing the sea and along the main street; we enjoyed walking along the water, all the people watching and close to various shops and restaurants. But there was not much else to give high marks to; it is a rather old hotel that has seen better days. The breakfast was not awful, but not outstanding either. Similar for the room; the bar of soap was about as big as a sugar cube. This hotel like Nice in general is rather expensive.

The hotel used to be lovely. It is now spotty. The location is excellent. Service varies depending on who you get. Towels are grey and thin. Extra towels are 2Euros. At the price you would not expect such pettiness. You are getting little for the per night price. Wifi goes in and out.

Have stayed here before and returned because of its location. The rooms have been updated but unfortunately not the rest of the hotel. No catering at breakfast for persons with allergens and the breakfast is very poor. Hotel relies on and caters for people of the much older generation. So if you're over 70 then you will love it.

Although not staying at the hotel my wife and I had dinner here because of the location and menu. We shared a nice salad and a good bottle of wine, my wife had the Cotes d'agaeau filet (not chicken but some kind of fowl) and I had carpaccio de boeuf ( excellent lamb chops). All-in-all, a very good dinner and service. The meal was reasonable priced considering the location and is worth the experience whilst in Nice. Larry & Kelly, Georgetown, TX

This is a hotel with great potential. The facade is beautiful but the tatty flags outside give away the current small imperfections. As others have said, the location is perfect and the sea views make facing the front essential. The newly renovated rooms are spacious, well designed and decorated - and clean. Some have huge balconies. Shame there aren't bath tubs as well as showers in all the rooms. All the staff are polite and very helpful. So what's wrong with the place? The wifi doesn... Read more

I enjoyed Le Royal immensely. When we arrived in Nice, it was still morning. We couldn't check into our room yet, however the staff was very accommodating and let us store our luggage while we did a little site-seeing. The wait for our room was not long. We checked into our spacious room which was nicely appointed and had an awesome ocean view. The staff was friendly and helpful. We did not visit the restaurant but we did use the bar several times. I went on a 5 day holiday to nice with my family and we decided to stay at the Le Royal. The ocean view rooms, in which my parents stayed, were in excellent condition and recently refurbished. The older rooms, in which I stayed weren't that good, missing a minibar, personally, I was missing and ironer for my shirts. The elevators are old and unreliable, I got stuck once. The hotel is full of charm, and the staff were great. Helpful at all times. The breakfast could have been better. Did not enj... Read more

We did not stay at this hotel, but we did use the restaurant. They have a lovely elegant terrace for dining at the front of the hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient. The menu provided a good choice with reasonable prices for food and wine. Our meal was excellently presented and of a high standard. We would definitely dine here again.

The hotel has a great location, walking distance to Old Town, restaurants, bars and on the promenade. Great view of the Sea. It is hard to believe that the rooms were recently refurbished. The carpet was stained and appeared well worn. The bed skirt was 4 inches too long, if they were trying to achieve the shabby chic look, they missed it. Looking straight down from our small balcony, the view was of empty planter boxes teaming with cigarette butts! UGH. The room was not serviced well. T... Read more

A lovely location on the seafront. Hotel has been grand and now needs upgrading but the staff were lovely and very helpful. We ate in hotel restaurant one evening and the food was good and the service very pleasant and friendly. Large room for our stay with good bathroom facilities. Large shower with toiletries, very good. Breakfast was extensive with a good choice of hot or cold continental breakfast menu. We would return for a short break again.

Spent 4 nights in this hotel and we were satisfied by the stay. We spent some nights in their new renovated rooms which have a sea view and they were really good. The renovated rooms together with the location of the hotels deserves 4-5stars. I'm giving it a 3 for average service and the rooms that weren't on the sea side and not renovated. They were very small and held a very low standard. You could see that it was old and they had no refrigerator and our phone was not working. We could imagin... Read more

Having stayed in Nice and Toulon for a weeks holiday this was our last destination. The hotel trades on its former glory: The rooms need updating. No tea or coffee facilities (reception said this was due to fire hazard) The bathrooms are dated and need updating. Very noisy at night. There are far better hotels in the area on the promenade.

The location of this hotel is wonderful. The bus from the airport literally stopped across the street, and there is only one or two blocks to the famous Hotel Negresco. The beach is on the other side of le Promenade des Anglais. The hotel lobby looked impressive, the staff was friendly and check-in was quick and easy. We arrived by taxi - This was good as there is no parking. We had a room with a wonderful view, and the colors of the sea are incredibly varied and beautiful. Breakfast was not included, but we chose to eat there once, and then, because the breakfast was substantial - full continental plus crepes, eggs to boil in a great container, and a great array of fruit, we eat there again. We had several interesting experiences. Our second night there was a wind-driven hard storm, with the wind and rai... Read more

A very old fashion hotel, rooms need updating. Door lock did not work, very flat pillows (cushions) give you a stiff neck after sleeping. All you need is for david niven to walk out of the bar to make the scene complete, hang on isnt that sydney greenstreet sitting there reading a paper.

Considering it's excellent location & the fact that we had booked three months in advance, I was expecting more. The hotel is outdated & the rooms need updating. Our 'city view' room had absolutely no view what so ever apart from a pointed tin roof fight in front of the window. The gentleman in reception was very accommodating (thank you) & did move us, however the price does not justify the quality of the room. Was happy with the location and the lovely sea view to wake up too, and have that great sea view from my comfy bed was very nice, little boats bobbing about and so easy for a morning dip just over the road. We chose Le Royal for its proximity to Messena Square, just a walk to all the fun of the carnival without the inconvenience of thousands of people under the balcony. We had a sea facing room on the first floor, perfect for our needs. The place would benefit from an injection of creativity and cash in the interior styling. The excellent staff deserve it.

The staff were helpful and any complaint attended to. One concern is the fire safety, the maids leave the fire doors propped open when cleaning a corridor. The mid corridor fire doors are always open, never closed at night. We had a fire alarm one night and only a few guests responded, the night porter had no clue what to do, it was a false alarm but if a real emergency ????
