If you put much weight on the number of stars a hotel has been awarded, and the idea of 5 stars make you wet your pants, you should ignore my comments here, as we are not on the same page. If you need a nice enough and clean place in a great location, for a reasonable price, you won't go wrong with this hotel. The room is fine, the bathroom is attractive due to excellent lighting, though some of the tiling is showing a bit (not a lot) of age, and the shower, rather than being in a separate unit,... lighting in the room was terrible!! My husband and I had to sit either in the bathroom or in the entrance lobby to be able to read anything!!! We do not watch much television at home and wanted to see a film or something in English, but the only channels in English were various news channels. Our french isn't good enough to understand french films. The American films being shown were dubbed in french! It would have been nice if there were something we could watch on a winter's evening.

The first impression was quit bad: It was a little bit difficult to "see" the hotel even though I was only around 20meters from it (there were scaffolds in the facade). I have indeed to phone the hotel to ask them if I where in the wrong place. Then when you enter it seems and old hotel,... but the personal is very warm, the room was very nice and clean, and the location is simple perfect ( and in additon you have a subway entrance at <50m, and many places for lunching nearby),... that I found ... Very helpful staff. Lovely room. Very handy for the port, metro busses and museums. We had a very enjoyable five night stay in this hotel. The only down side was that some times the street noise e.g. sirens from police cars and sounds from street cleaners, woke us early

Location excellent for the Old Port and boat trips, Petit Train and bus tours, restaurants, bars, and in fairly easy walking distance of most of the things you‚??ll want to see. Metro is about 50m away. Could be a little hard to find as you can‚??t drive quite to it (well you can drive across the pedestrianised area outside for drop-off and pick up, but it‚??s not obvious how to do that when you first arrive and rather awkward even when you‚??ve been there, and impossible if the street market is... Right by the Vieux Port, this hotel made a perfect base for exploring Marseille with a group of friends. The rooms varied a bit, for instance ours was very dark with only a small window, but that was due to the position of the building. Our air con didn't work at first, but it was fixed on the day we mentioned it to reception. Breakfast was nice enough, in a pleasant dining room, but if you hadn't bought it with a package, possibly overpriced at ‚?¨12. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it ... Read more

Friendly staff, changed our room after a booking error by me no problem. Lovely old style room, massive bathroom! Nice place and seconds to walk round the corner to the port area. Would definitely stay there again.

The reason I am giving four stars is mostly location! The location is just great, literally a one minute walk from the metro station Vieux Port on the blue line. Take the Canbieres street exit, once out cross the Canbieres street and you will find a small street in front of you enter it, and hotel is on left hand side, this is literally another 1 minute walk from the old port and the Marseille wheel, excellent location. Reception and Service: small reception, old style elevator with the metalli... Read more

The best thing about this hotel is its location. After that, it‚??s down hill. The staff seemed friendly and on arrival we were told that we were being up-graded to a room with a large terrace. Sounds great! The view from the terrace was beautiful and we even considered sleeping out there since the air conditioning didn‚??t work very well. The room itself was very dark and rather dismal with dark walls, dark floor and minimal furniture. The bath, which was quite large, did not have a showe... Read more

This hotel met our needs just fine. It wasn't exceptional and it wasn't bad either. The location is extraordinary and their is a subway stop right outside the hotel. We had a small balcony with a view of the port. It was during the Euro Cup so it was a bit noisy into the night. I doubt it is like that all summer. The rooms were a bit dated, no wash cloth, no top sheet, shower and sink didn't drain properly, but the room was spacious. A small refrigerator was in the room to keep your drinks... Read more

My trip to Marseille was over a weekend and I wanted to be close to everything. The location is excellent but my two biggest problems with this hotel was it was right beside a church whose bells tolled loudly Saturday afternoon and pretty much the whole of Sunday it seems. Secondly was the breakfast which was an additional 12 Euros since it was not part of my booking. I normally have fruit and skip the pastries but sad to say the first breakfast I had the fruit salad was nearly rotten. Ferme... Read more

Great service, clean rooms, right next to the metro and the Old Port. Great location for a business trip or holiday. Easy to get anywhere in the City. Attached are the views from my window. The breakfast was okay but, at 12 euros, overpriced considering a coffee and a pastry anywhere in Marseille never exceeds 8 euros.

this hotel has an ideal location, next to the metro, right on the marina surrounded by bars/shops and restaurants, the big wheel is also right outside! we were upgraded to a superior room on arrival, the staff were very friendly and reception was always manned. the room was huge, with comfortable beds and a large bath and shower,it was clean(cleaners were great-room always made up and never saw them once!) there was a fridge/hairdryer/espresso machine(bring your own coffee!) we were very pleased all ... This is the 5th or 6th time that we've stayed at the hotel, and it will not be the last. It's by far our favourite hotel in the Vieux Port area of Marseille. It may not be the most luxurious, but it is certainly the most charming. Rooms are large, and bathrooms huge. The only complaint would be that the curtains to the three full length windows were badly fitting, and let in a lot of light. Breakfast isn't cheap, but there is a good choice, and the coffee is excellent.

Stayed three nights and was very pleased. The gentleman on reception (Portuguese national who speaks excellent English) was extremely helpful with advice on restaurants. Excellent location close to metro only two stops from the station

If you arrive in Marseille via the airport shuttle to the Gare St Charles, you will find the Metro gets you to the hotel in no time at all, as the exit from the Metro is just around the corner from the hotel entrance. The small reception area is up a few steps but the staff are welcoming and helpful and the lift is very close by. Our room faced the street on the first floor. It was much larger than expected and tastefully decorated. The bed was large and supportive and we were not troubled by st... Read more

Very convenient location, close to the old port. Large comfortable room, although we had difficulty controlling the room temperature. Good breakfast. Only significant problem is the parking. Only parking is a public lot very close to the hotel. But it is very expensive ‚?? it added about 35% to the cost of a 2-night stay.

Situated perhaps 50 metres from the Vieux-Port metro station, close to the Vieux Port, but not on it, so therefore relatively quiet for a city centre hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the staff are helpful and efficient. 12 euros for the breakfast is a bit steep though - there is better value to be had in the many cafés within a few minutes walk of the hotel. If I'm in Marseille again, I will try to stay at the New Hotel.

This hotel looks a little tired from outside but do not be put off by this! We were delighted with our stay here: the hotel is in a central location and easy to access by public transport. Our room was clean, quiet and had plenty of space. Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. One tip: there is another hotel with the same name in Marseille. If you wish to contact the hotel make sure that you have chosen the right one!
