We stayed here for 2 nights in May. Our room had primary coloured Sixties-style decor and wacky patterned curtains, but it was stylish, clean, warm, the staff were friendly and the room was a good size with everything we needed: a big comfortable bed and a decent-sized bathroom with fluffy towels, robes and slippers. The main plus point of this hotel is the location. It is perfectly positioned and only a short walk to everything. Definitely worth paying extra for a room with a port view and a ba... Read more

I booked this hotel after reading its reviews on Tripadvisor. Most of touristic attractions are within walking distance from the hotel. The room was very spacious compared to other European hotels and had a large bathroom, tub, and shower. The carpet looked a little bit rusty. Although the room was very clean, I've seen cleaner rooms and that's why I took one star away. Staff members were welcoming and helpful. The view was absolutely breathtaking. You may think since the hotel is across the old... Read more

Six of us stayed here for three nights upon our arrival in France. All of our rooms faced the old port and beautiful views of the cathedral. The hotel is also near many main attractions and good restaurants. Our only complaint is that with so many restaurants and bars in the area, the noise from the street could be loud well into the night. Otherwise, the staff was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay.

Home from another wonderful three-night stay at the hotel! First class service from the second-to-none staff and our favourite room made for another fantastic stay. The strong wifi signal in the room, L'Occitane products in the washroom and the superb location can't be beat. We are already looking forward to returning next year! I highly recommend the Hotel la Residence du Vieux-Port to anyone visiting Marseille!

Well I got what I wanted, a balcony overlooking the port. Saturday night was loud and I loved it. All I had to do was walk out on the balcony and I could se all the excitement, Restaurants and boating adventures were right outside the hotel doors. If you're visiting from the US keep in mind this is not an American chain of hotels. There is no converter for US electric plugs. I was advised to go buy one but of course I didn't know where a wal mart or Kmart type store would be. In every Ame... Read more

Not a beautiful of elegant property, but clean, well-managed and the absolute best location at the vieux port. We had a high floor room (mini-suite) with balcony. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was large and well-equipped and view was spectacular. Given the location and quality, it was a fair value and we would definitely return if we go back to Marseille. Didn't have the breakfast as there are numerous lovely cafe's in the neighborhood. Just go one block in from the port (past the ferris wh... Read more

With a view to die for, this well run hotel is great. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the marina is recommended, and it is a great spot to visit Marseilles. Reception staff extremely helpful and would certainly return on holiday. Cassis along the coast is an essential trip and can be reached by car in around 40 minutes.

Just finished staying here for four nights in their Sky Suite (801) and couldn't be happier. The view from the room and the balcony are postcard perfect. Large king bed. Quiet Great a/c. Large chairs on balcony for breakfast croissants and coffee. (Easily found within a few doors downstairs). Harbor is busy but heavily police patrolled and clean. Not a single issue returning home late or going out early. Great hotel staff. Excellent English and restaurant-helpful.

We spent one night here visiting Marseille. The location was perfect to walk around the city and explore Vieux Port. The apartment style room with two bedrooms was perfect for our family, and the view was amazing! It was a great experience to watch the sun set against the port and cathedral on the hill. Hotel was up-to-date and very clean. Our kids loved the free wifi. We would definitely return!

Only spent one night in Marseille and couldn't have chosen a more perfect location for exploring as much as possible in the shortest time. The tourist train starts right opposite and loads of bars/restaurants very close by. The hotel itself is small but pretty with perfectly equipped bedrooms with balconies overlooking the old port. We were also very pleased with the service. The gentleman at reception was very welcoming and helpful. Really couldn't have asked for more.

We paid for a room with a balcony and were very pleased we did. Wonderful view over the port. Only spent one night here but were pleased with our choice of location as a lot of the rest of the town which we saw as we walked around seemed pretty run down and scruffy. The breakfast which we took in our room to enjoy our view, was frankly pretty poor compared to all the others we had during our time in the south of France. Dry rolls, tasteless ham, plastic cheese and small, boring pastries. But as ... Read more

The location was perfect. On the harbor, with a great view, a short walk to more restaurants than we could have visited in a month of good dining. Although we were over the harbor and restaurants, we found that the room was very quiet and we got a good nights sleep. The front desk was very helpful and enthusiastic. Parking was down the street in a good public parking area that is noted in the hotel's website. The hotel has reduced cost parking vouchers

Fantastic view on the Old Port of Marseilles, easy access to everything that may be interesting, spacious room and friendly staff. That how I can describe our 3 nights stay. For us it looked like we managed to select the best accommodation in town.

Reserved a sky suite and wasn't disappointed - the view of the port was amazing from the terrace. The hotel is perfectly located for everything - food, shopping - and just people watching. Check in time is 3pm and don't expect to get in early... I didn't have breakfast (18 Euros) because there are so many cafe's withing walking distance that offer amazing food for far less. The staff were nice and understood english very well - would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. The only downs... Read more

Located next to the TGV train station, all we had to do was cross the street. We were welcomed warmly by a very friendly receptionist, who gave us lots of information on the city. The room had a nice view. There is also a metro station in the train station, and it was just two stops to the old harbor. I would definitely book this hotel again!

Phenomenal view of the whole old port and surroundings, including the fortress, mountain top church (Basilique de Notre-Dame) through gigantic glass wall and terrace. Room is very large well-furnished but simple. Bed, bathroom, toilet are great. Perfect location for sightseeing. Friendly, helpful staff.

The hotel is situated right on the main street on the waterfront. We stayed in their suite, which was large and beautifully decorated with antiques. It was missing a balcony, which was unfortunate. If you want one, be sure to book a different room. Their restaurant was excellent (dinner) and their wine list was extensive. Best of all, the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. It was a lovely experience.

My husband and I had been to London, Paris, Lyon and landed at La Residence in Marseille on a hot August afternoon. We were an hour early for check in but warmly invited to have coffee while we waited for our room to be ready. Our room "wowed" us. So spacious! Such a view! And a little balcony we could sit on. The television was awesome and the sofa really good. The bath was amazing. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Just a couple of small things, I had to request a second wine glass and c... We stayed five nights in a Club Room with stunning views all round. The staff are very good - the room very comfortable if a tad small - only room for one easy chair. Not a problem when the weather is glorious as it was. The beds good, nice bathroom with splendid large and fluffy towels - spotlessly clean and well serviced every day. We loved too the small sitting area outside - comfortable and great people watching. Have written separately about their excellent restaurant and lovely staff. It w... Read more

Location, service and comfort could not be better. Beautiful room (we had one with a balcony on the 5th floor). Good mini-bar and attractive touches like Mondrian cushions, bathrobes and slippers and Occitane toiletries in the bathroom. Staff were friendly and helpful, for example by letting us have a bottle of wine from the bar to enjoy on the balcony when we returned late.

Warm welcoming, very gentle and sweet staff... Decoration not very my kind but clean...(kinda oldfashioned) Too bad my room did not have a balcony...especially for a price not very cheap Good and complete breakfast but pricy too (18â?¬) but the tables on the balcony, right on the harbour and the amazing view makes you forget about it;-)

Perfect location overlooking the Vieux port and Marina. Very comfortable room with small balcony. Bath robes and toiletries supplied, also tea and coffee making facilities as well as mini-bar. Pleasant and helpful staff. Had one breakfast @18 euros which was good although pricey. Ate once in Restaurant which was also good Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby, You can get a breakfast for 6 euros. Metro station nearby and very easy to get to other parts of the city.

Built by architect André-Jacques Dunoyer de Segonzac in 1952, La Residence is a stunningly located hotel on the Old Port of Marseille, with a most amazing view on the Port, Notre Dame de la Garde, and the city. Sunrise and Sunset are unique shows. Rooms are spacious, extremely comfortable and clean, with terrace or balcony. But the real value of the hotel is its staff: friendly, efficient, professional. There is no doubt that this hotel is in a great location. Situated right at the end of the harbour, close to shopping, restaurants and the city, the views from the balcony are spectacular. We had a 2 bedroom and the bed from the main bedroom looked out onto the harbour. Beautiful during the day or night. There is a restaurant situated in the hotel but we did not try it. The hotel is right on the Port, with rooms looking out to the beautiful church on the hill. The service at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, and all the people we dealt with spoke very good English. We did not take breakfast but it looked very good. Right on the Harbour, La Residence is the perfect location for a holiday in Marseille. The room we had was big enough for two and had a small lounge area attached. The location is near the centre of the main tourist area. Our room had a view of the harbour and the cathedal overlooking Marseille. Exvellent hotel.

The location of this hotel is excellent. It is in the heart of the Old Port Area, easy walking distance to upscale shopping, the restaurants, and tourist traps. However, our room was hot and the A/C was not working. We were told they had shut it off, then we were told it was broken. We had fabulous view with a balcony, but when we opened the windows to get some cool evening air since the room was so hot, it was incredibly noisy and bugs flew into the room. Hotel was booked for us by Railbookers and we had no knowledge of it. For our purposes it is absolutely ideal. I am sure they are far more expensive and pretentious hotels in Marseille, but none that I can see where every room has a balcony view of the Vieux Port looking directly at the hilltop Madonna. Rooms again are unpretentious but comfortable, provide everything necessary and far beyond. Staff are excellent, helpful, friendly and speaking perfect English which makes my poor attempts at...
