We arrived very late, without a reservation, as another hotel had lost our booking (but that's another story, and possibly, at some point, another review). We were welcomed by M Dupont, who was kindness itself, despite the late hour, and assured us he had a room, pas de probleme, and chatted to us while taking our details. Our room was on the fifth floor, quite spacious, with a wonderful view of the harbour. The beds were comfy, with a generous supply of pillows, and we slept well. We hadn't in... Read more

I like this hotel, everything works and has done for the last twenty years! You can have a room with a view of the ferries and the boats in the basin. The parking is easy in front of the hotel providing you arrive after 2pm.The situation is also convenient for the town centre and restaurants, there is also a bar and a restaurant,in case you are very tired and do not fell like exploring or have small children and cannot roam at will. Staff are friendly and as befits an international hotel chain,they... Read more

We only stayed one night in this city / beach hotel and had very good feeling. First contact with lobby officer was excellent, very friendly staff, ready to help. Our family room was what we expected from an Holiday inn, clean , enough room and sea view from the 5th floor. We had a very good dinner with a great value for money. The breakfast was also good. Surely go back if we take the ferry to UK

Smart friendly staff, particularly cheery lady at breakfast. Spacious clean rooms, powerful shower, comfy bed, plenty of choice at breakfast buffet. Convenient central location. we had view of harbour. Chain familiarity does not reduce French feel. Would go again

I'm sorry but our experience was not good. The hotel is ideally placed in Calais but is on a main road and we were placed on the first floor facing the road. Outside noise all night made sleep almost impossible. Our room was noisy due to odd plumbing noises and the room was too hot. The air-conditioning was turned off in the whole hotel but there was no prior warning of this. Despite discussions with reception staff there was no-one on duty that seemed able to make any decisions and the staff we... Read more

This hotel has not got that much going for it. It is difficult to find and to get to; when you get there parking is a nightmare and the signs on the local car parks not easy to understand. Unloading your baggage from the car means double parking on a busy street which seems more like a free-for-all. And the main door to go in has a tendency to stop in a position where you can go neither in nor out and pushing it does not make that much difference! The welcome was fine but I felt the whole place... Read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and were pleased we had chosen this hotel. It is very conveniently located for the ferry terminal and our room had lovely views over the harbour. Reception staff were welcoming and very helpful. We chose to eat dinner in the hotel and were not disappointed. My fish was superb. We could also take advantage of 'happy hour' in the small bar. Breakfast was perfectly good and our room clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Considering this hotel serves the ferry port you would think they would have food and drink available after 11pm, but no just some cheese left over from dinner. Apart from that room was good, large, and with a comfy bed, bathroom was well appointed with a lovely shower, breakfast was poor, staff really did not want to be there, parking was fair. Ok for a ferry port hotel.

I like the location of the Holiday Inn as it's close to bars and restaurants, plus close to the port and Eurotunnel and there is plenty of free parking right outside. Calais has several excellent restaurants and is quite lively in the evening, to the surprise of many. The receptionists are friendly and professional. The rooms are fine for this price of hotel and quite typically French. There's nothing wrong with them but neither would you want to spend long in your room. We stayed for 2 sepa... Read more

This hotel has family rooms, is dog friendly (with a charge) and very secure parking. It's very well located, clean and fresh with nice staff. The views from the front rooms of the hotel are excellent. Would recommend.

On the plus side this hotel is clean, convenient for the cross channel ferries and the staff are friendly and helpful. However the hotel is in need of a face lift and a general up-dating. Every where looks tired and dated. The bar and restaurant are cramped and rather dreary. Breakfast is of a good standard but dinner is expensive for what it is. There are many other places to eat in Calais which offer better value and greater choice.

The room we had was large and a small balcony. This meant we were able to see our car outside the hotel. Quite secure on the street and we've done this previously. The breakfast is a bit of a let down, but otherwise the room is very comfortable. There is a bar and small restaurant but we didn't use it. It seemed popular.

Our original booking for the Hotel De La Plage was cancelled by the hotel as we arrived and as we'd stayed in this Holiday Inn before we knew what to expect. The location is excellent if you want to get into this area of town. They have good parking facilities both underground (via a lift) and across the road in a locked compound area. As we'd been moved, the hotel was generous enough to give us a deal on their rate and the room was large, clean and well appointed. Breakfast is good, but there... Read more

We checked the availability in Calais for one night through trip advisor / booking. com and found only 3 hotels. Having checked the reviews we decided to book last minute as we wanted to have a stop over in Calais for one night. The hotel has views of the harbour and you can see the ferries arriving and departing. We took a taxi from the terminal to the hotel for 10? The hotel is small with reception on the left when you walk in. It's a 3 star hotel but has the advantage of being near the ha... Read more

We stayed here for one night after arriving in Calais. We arrived at 1am to be greeted by the best hotel evening porter that we have ever met, Pierre was wonderful after checking us in he offered to open the bar for us for a late night drink which was a fantastic start to our holiday. He really made our stay wonderful and was the most attentive and helpful member of staff we have ever come across in our time in staying at hotels. Our room was really smelly and noisy. The whole place felt dark and dirty and we could not wait to get out. The service was ok but the corridors and room were so dark and dingy, the air conditioning didn't work and our bed was pretty uncomfortable. The plastic soap dispenser in the bathroom fell off in my hand and it was empty anyway! The towels are tiny and way past their useful life expectancy and did I mention the smell? In our non smoking room, it smelt like someone had been smoking 300 a... Read more

Well located on the harbor front and close to eateries and shops, this modern hotel is clean and comfortable. The free wifi worked very well. Friendly bi-lingual service from front desk and breakfast staff. Breakfast itself was perfectly ok though not as extensive a choice as a bigger hotel could offer. What lets the HI down a bit is the lack of facilities: room lacked a mini safe and there were only two electrical sockets I could find - neither of them by the bedside table. There's a cosy bar d... After travelling through France stayed here before boarding Eurotunnel the next day. Always very friendly and welcoming. Our upgraded executive room was excellent. Great cube alarm clock, table and 2 chairs, space on top in bathroom, big tv with english channels, tea and coffee with great cups, comfy large bed and great wi-fi. It was like being home already. Great breakfast too. Have even been promised brown sauce to go with my excellent bacon roll for my next visit.

We have stayed in this hotel many times over the years but this is the first time we have had the chance to review on TripAdvisor. We picked the hotel because it is so convenient for both ferry crossings (you can see the ferries loading in the port from your window) and the channel tunnel which is a short 10 minute drive from the hotel. The staff on the front desk are always helpful and supplement our poor French with their very good English. The hotel rooms are clean and spacious. The en-suit... Read more

The hotel was very clean and a good location from the ferry and easy to find. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about te area and offered us a umbrella to use as it was raining heavily. The price was good for your money and the meal was not too expensive and the food was really good and enjoyable I would definitely return back to this hotel again. I liked the idea of the pillow were you could have them soft or firm.
