The hotel concierge recommended a terrible restaurant for our last night. The day before he recommended an over-priced wine-tour instead of the quality tours offered through the Bordeaux Tourism office. Overall, a totally-unexpected sub-par experience for a hotel of this class. Other than the concierge, the hotel was delightful.

This is my first visit to Bordeaux and find that some of the front desk females need a lesson in customer relations as well as one of the female concierge . Otherwise all other areas have been very welcoming . It's such a shame that the females are letting this beautiful hotel down .

We had a wonderful recent stay in a superior room at this hotel. The room was not particularly big but was comfortable and quiet. Upon entering the room, there was a short hallway which was much to my liking. The carrera marbled bathroom was elegant. The hotel photos are accurate. The only improvements needed are the bed sheets, pillow cases and toilet paper, which are not very soft. For a 5 star hotel, the linens should be better. We had breakfast at the hotel. The food was good, the set... Read more

I noticed this was a new Intercontinental hotel so I used points and my ambassador free night to sample for three nights It is without doubt one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at Superb service Beautiful stunning junior suite and considerable elegance Fantastic wines from the region and what a beautiful city to wander round with the fantastic French relaxed atmosphere I really cannot fault this hotel or the service

I was just in Bordeaux this week 6/23-6/25! This was a business trip that my family joined me on. When I checked into the InterContinental Bordeaux I was greeted by Pierre, who was so polite and professional. We stayed in the Junior Suite on the 3rd floor with the view of Bordeaux Center - WHAT A ROOM! It was clean and we loved the layout! It was a sofa bed but felt like 2 separate bedrooms. Everyone who worked at the hotel was helpful with anything we asked/needed - from restaurant recommendati... Read more

By far the best hotel we have stayed in, not necessarily because of the actual room decor, size or bedding..that was fine(no complaints) BUT the location, view from my room, outdoor restaurants, terrace restaurant, bar, and the Spa were phenomenal! We were treated like royalty by every person that worked there. This hotel is in the center of shopping, sightseeing, and restaurants. I cannot think of one single negative remark except that 5 nights was not enough, I dream of returning.

Our arrival time was well known to the hotel. With other friends we parked our cars in front of the hotel, checked in with a barely interested young woman who suggested our room may (not will) require two elevators to reach it (it did) and then went back to park the cars in their underground garage . It took TWO HOURS to get into their car park for no explicable reason or if there was they weren't prepared to tell us. The room was well furnished but badly layed out. The toilet at one end of t... We stayed one night but would love to return. Bordeaux is a beautiful city. Don't tell anyone that it surpasses Paris. The hotel is in the best location with all sights and restaurants radiating from it. We had a rental car and did not want to have to return it to the airport due to our brief stay at the end of our trip. The concierge arranged to have Hertz pick it up which relieved us of that duty and allowed us to walk the city. Our room was beautiful but very dark and are told that if we ... Read more

We stayed here for two nights and could not have been more pleased. The hotel is beautiful and impressive, and located in the middle of town, directly opposite the Grand Theatre and within 30 seconds walk of shopping and lots of lovely bars and restaurants. I don't think you could pick a better base to explore Bordeaux from. The breakfast included was also very very good, fresh, plentiful and a great selection. Brilliant!

I stayed here in April and was looking forward to returning. My return was not as good as my last. On arrival my room was not ready and had to wait over and hour to get the keys. We were offered a drink at the bar mind. When the room was ready we had been allocated an accessible room which I felt was strange as nothing had been said at check in. There was also a strange odour in the room and the room hadn't been prepared probably i.e bins had not been emptied and bath towels missing. The... Read more

My wife and I stayed here from check-in on Sunday July 24 and checked-out on Wed July 27. It is one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The location is superb, right in the middle of the city and net to the tram. The staff is exceptional, they were all incredibly helpful, professional and friendly. The facility itself is excellent. Do not expect anything great from the rooms, it is tiny and the design is super old school. This hotel sits on a very old property and is conveniently placed smacked centre of Bordeaux City. Theres an awesome restaurant called Le Pressoir d Argent, which i think deserves 2-3Michellin stars. The best meal ive had in Bordeaux. Did i also not mention theres a rooftop pool too ? It shuts at 12 but its a relaxing place to have a drink.

The Grand Hotel is in a most excellent location in Bordeaux and it does do it justice. We spent two separate nights on the way to and from to Spain and were not disappointed. What was very good: - Valet parking in a tricky location (access to the square is actually limited) - Pets are welcome and our little pug got lots of attention and his own bed and food/water bowls. - As we were to leave very early in the morning, we spoke to reception and they prepared breakfast boxes for us with coffee, j... Fell in love with the hotel from the pictures on the Internet and it delivered to expectation. Friendly staff, beautiful room, grand public areas, wonderful spa. The spa is really relaxing and I liked the touch of the 'salon de the' overlooking the pool where you can help yourself to tea / coffee / juices. Hot tub on the roof too and seating and sun beds so you can mix it up if the weather is good. My only bit of feedback would be the rooftop bar ... (Wonderful views though!) .. Couldn't get ... Usually, junior suites are just an upgrade from the regular rooms, but this suite had an entrance area, a sitting room area, an office area, the bedroom, and bathroom, and dressing area. The bed was really comfortable and the air conditioning worked surprisingly well all night long. The room actually got cold which is a luxury not often found in Europe. The hote... Read more

I have to admit, I travel for business a lot and look for boutique hotels and I didn't expect that the InterContinental could be a match for my expectations ... but be prepared for a surprise as the service - all of the services - are exceptional. The valet, front desk, lobby bar, dining, the roof top bar and the concierge ... all exceptional. The rooms too are a surprise as the hotel has expanded over time and offer a variety of room types for all guest needs. This may be my best hotel exper... Read more

This grand old dame in the heart of French wine country is a magnificent piece of culture and history. It is first class, down to the little details including the quality of the furnishings, the door hardware and especially the service. The Brasserie is the second restaurant and even this is a Gordon Ramsey establishment. Great food, great wine and just a great experience. The location is in the heart of Bordeaux within walking distance of shopping, the cultural center of the city and plenty... Read more

We stopped at this wonderful Intercontinental on our way to the Loire Valley, and we were lucky to have done so. Not only does it have all the amenities, but the staff is so accommodating and helpful that it is what makes travel a pleasure. First of all, there was some festival this weekend so it made getting to the hotel itself difficult. The staff was there to help us with our baggage, take care of our car, and we got an upgrade to a suite! All of this done very quickly. Then since there was r... Read more

This is a real "grand" hotel. Decor a little dark and old fashioned but has an air of splendour Staff largely friendly and helpful. Terraces in beautiful locations. One out front in square overlooking the opera and one on roof with lovely views Peculiar that they need an English chef( Gordon Ramsey) to make restaurant special but food was nice The Spa is lovely with nice treatments and rooms, lovely small pool, hamman and sauna. Again nice terrace with Jacuzzi where you can have soft drinks and... Read more

We had a "superior" room. It was very small like a box, stuffy, over crowded and it was facing a wall. However, the disappointment was compensated by the restaurant, "Le Pressoir D'Argent", which is located inside the hotel. The food, service, and the ambiance of the restaurant was simply exceptional. Even if you do not choose to stay in this hotel, book a dinner in this restaurant. I also recommend the lemon merengue tart served in the brasserie. It is probably prepared by the reward winning p... We went to this hotel after dinner to enjoy coffee and drinks in a luxurious atmosphere. Unfortunately it was as if the waitress just couldn't be bothered serving us and when we finally got service it was fairly abrupt. Coffee and drinks for 7 people all arrived at different times and the waitress didn't even pour the drinks. The sugar came in a stainless steel bowl in little paper tubes just like in a service station. It was all very expensive and left us feeling rather ripped off.

One tour guide mentioned that the rooftop bar would be a good place to have a drink and view the city. After viewing some reviews on Tripadvisor I was hesitate to visit. But we decided to go up and take a look. Once there my wife and my sister wanted to stay and have a drink. $81 US dollars for 4 cocktails was way more than the view was worth.

A good experience, fabulous location and excellent breakfasts. The rooms are dark, plush and lack shelf and closet space. Wonderful friendly service with too much fussy furniture. A restored classic hotel with its assets and liabilities.

This hotel is an architectural nightmare. Be prepared to get lost while trying to find breakfast or so. When going the fastest route my room (463) I was harresed by people who had rented the place for their event and would not let me pass. What?? I have to discuss how to get to my room in a 400+ euro hotel per night??? The room itself is nothing to write home about. Small. Toilet and bathroom separated in a strange way. It was too cold in the room. In the whole hotel WIFI did not work. All my co... Read more

The hotel is a fascinating mix of old and new , lots of corridors and wood, with interestingly dark modern decor. Excellent spa and pool - really relaxing. good breakfast buffet in the upstairs area of the brasserie with views over the opera house. The main ([pedestrian) shopping street starts just a few steps away. The square in front of the hotel is interestingly lively in the day and the evening but the hotel rooms are quiet.

Our flight from USA to London was cancelled causing us to miss connection to our cruise ship. We had to meet the ship in Bordeaux. We stayed at this hotel & it was fabulous. Although we had not planned the stay, it was delightful. Service was wonderful & all personnel were very professional. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel in October 2016. Pros: Quiet room Housekeeping does and excellent job at cleaning up the rooms and turndown service. Central location to cafes, shopping and attractions Front staff inside hotel were friendly and super helpful Cons: There was live music on the roof top Saturday night, but it ended early and didn't disrupt our sleep.

This was our first time to Bordeaux, which we loved. The Intercontinental staff was top notch and we felt very well taken care of in this hotel with great ammenities. The rooms were a little dark, but were in line with the period decor. Having a drink on the rooftop is A MUST, the view is to die for. The vibe around the Opera House was alive and we enjoyed walking to many quaint restaurants close by.

It was super busy with the euro cup going on at the same time, the foot traffic was crazy around the hotel and surrounding plaza, as it seems to be a gathering area and hub for trolley passengers. The non stop chanting between Ireland and Belgium was non stop and could be heard throughout the hotel. The rooms were comfortable, clean and cozy. The shower/tub was awkward, but the other amenities in the room was very nice. Hopefully we can come back and at a more quiet time.

The price advertised that sucks you in is the price for the first night only. Even though it says that is the average nightly price. It isn't. When you make the booking you'll find a higher price for additional nights and therefore a higher average nightly price. This is morally wrong. You have to clamber over the bath to get to the substandard shower, it's dangerous. Deluxe Room was dark & gloomy, you can't read a book. Open the drapes more but then get the bedrooms opposite looking in. Room wa... Read more

I really love this hotel. I can't think of one thing it lacks and now it's an intercontinental. The location across from the Opera House is superb. The rooms are quiet and tasteful. The staff is warm, friendly and perfect. I will always stay here. And the chocolate shop off the lobby, magnifique. And did I mention Gordon Ramsey's restaurant in house. It's paradise.

This hotel has a load of history. It's in the best location a hotel can be in Bordeaux. It has a lovely old world charm about it. However, once you get to the guests rooms, be aware that they are dark and dingy. Really depressing! I just couldn't stand hanging out in the room. We loved Bordeaux, but if we returned, we would avoid this hotel due to it's depressing guest rooms.

What is funny is that that was just the beginning, from entrance to bar to restaurant to room everything seemed so beautifully planned, the decoration the architecture of the building, everything! OK so this hotel interior is dark but not the welcoming! we were welcomed at Reception and I was recognised for my IHG status so offered room upgrade which was nice but dread to think what room was like that I had originally booked. I think all rooms must be dark (unless on the front overlooking large square), as street narrow on side or rooms looking into small courtyards. DĂ©cor doesn't help though! Under the new Intercontinental brand, this illustrious hotel is looking to join in with Bordeaux's renewed touristic vigour. Service was excellent and proudly bilingual (I suspect they get their fair share of Anglophones! Rooms are very old school in terms of lustrous velvets and swooning curtains, but it's all part of the fun. The spa with its counter-current little swimming pool (I kept thinking of Edina in Ab-Fab) was similarly over-the-top. Will come back to sample the roof bar in Summer. Lo... Read more
