Hotel Vauban is very well located in the centre of town with public parking facilities nearby. Our room was not huge but comfortable, clean and quiet. Good quality free Wifi. Staff was limited to one person at reception and ditto at breakfast but very friendly. Self-service breakfast buffet offered all the essentials and a choice of fresh fried or scrambled eggs on top. Excellent price-quality ratio.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel and it certainly exceeded our expectations. We have stayed at few other different hotels before in Besancon but never knew that Hotel Vauban was this good. Upon arriving via tram which was just behind the hotel, the owner already hold the keys to our room much to our surprise! Got what we asked for, a double room overlooking the Place de Revolution. Room was spacious for a french hotel standard. We did not take the breakfast because we have plans of our own. Ov... Read more

We were three ladies that spent the night here so wanted somewhere that we felt safe and not too far from restaurants and shops. This was perfect for us - the room was spacious, comfortable and surprisingly quiet, even though we were overlooking the square. The gentleman at reception was very friendly and recommended lots of touristy things to do as well as restaurants.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband. The hotel was very good and in a great location situated on the River Doubs with good views. Our room was small but adequate and the bathroom was great and spacious. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The owner was lovely and very helpful and always on hand if we needed anything. The breakfast was good with plenty to eat and drink, everything about the hotel was well organised. We had free wifi which worked very well throughout the hotel. The location is g... Read more

We stayed two nights as part of a road trip around NE France. The hotel was very well located, well-equipped and furnished, with a good breakfast, and most of all, a very helpful and friendly host in "M. 100". a very enjoyable stay, and well recommended.

Hotel right on the river. We stayed in hotel facing the square and it was quiet in a lovel room but if I returned I would try for a river view. The man front desk was extremely welcoming and helpful. The car park is a short walk away but may be a bit difficult if you have lots of luggage - I would call the hotel if you have a car get more information.

We had already booked one night en route to Italy when our car developed an electrical fault some 15k from the hotel. Subsequently the car was taken to Dijon for repair and we had to extend our stay. The hotel owner could not have been more helpful and though he was full the following evening he found accommodation for us, arranged a taxi and booked us back into the Hotel Vauban for the remainder of our stay. The hotel is in the centre, next to the river and has lovely views of the city. There... Read more

A small but very nice and well run hotel. The rooms are a bit small, but not inconveniently so, and they are very clean and well done. The owner very kindly put up with my rather poor French, even though he does speak English very well, and enjoyed teaching me a bit more. Wifi is nice and fast, but did go down quite often - he did have a technician looking at it on the day I checked out, so hopefully it's been improved. Breakfast is ok but a bit minimal, although cheap. Still, I preferred to he... Read more

The man at reception was very obliging, granting any requests made of him. Our room faced the river. The room and bathroom were newly refurbished and it was lovely to open out the windows at night to watch the local nightlife. If I was travelling to Besancon again I would stay at this hotel again. A tram number 2 (Hauts du Chazal) from the train station will take you to the hotel. Get off at stop before Revolution and walk across bridge. Hotel entrance faces river. When leaving it is easier to c... Read more

This hotel is right in the centre of Besancon. The difficulty arises if you are travelling by car, particularly after a long journey as I was. My sat nav brought me up various cul de sacs in a vain effort to get me close. Ultimately, my wife went walking while I reversed out of a very tricky situation. The man at reception told us to park in a city car park and walk to the hotel. I feel that the hotel should let guests know the tricky position it is to arrive by car. The hotel room was clean and... Absolutely smashing hotel, great location right on the riverside, quiet, air conditioning, free wifi, mini fridge, kettle and complimentary coffee and teas. Really modern and tastefully fully furnished. Public parking is a little away from the hotel (Pasteur in Rue du Loup), follow the signs for the car park, be careful a number are one way only. The owner is welcoming and very helpful. We would really recommend this hotel.

Clean and comfortable room which was a true triple with tonnes of space. The Vauban is attached to two restaurants which has good value food, although the breakfast was underwhelming for 10 euros. The room we had over looked the square which is the hotel best asset it's location. Service also deserves a commendation. WiFi strong, TV had two English channels.
