I stayed here for one night in late October 2016. I had just arrived from London Heathrow after 5PM, almost two hours late because of bad fog in London, and was due to fly back to London the next morning at 8AM (the trip was just to try our Finnair's new Airbus A350). It was my first time in Finland let alone Helsinki, and I naturally decided to stay at the Hilton because of the close proximity to Vantaa airport, which is only a 2-3 minute walk, via a covered walkway. I also chose this hotel because I wanted to have a nice view of the airport for a bit of plane-spotting from the room, and I was certainly not disappointed in this regard. For this, I chose an Executive Room, which are all on the fifth floor, which is the top floor of the hotel. Overall the hotel was simply fantastic.
The Executive Room featured a simple Nordic design (at least that is how I judge it, no expert here). As a Hilton Honors Member, I was able to check-in online before I started my trip. This presented me with a room map of the 5th floor, where there was only one room that was not available. I chose room 539 because I felt from the map, it would have the best view of the airport (it was South facing, no rooms seemed to be West facing parallel with the runways). I also ordered a bottle of water and an extra pillow, which were waiting for me in the room when I arrived.
The room design featured alot of nice wood; I felt the room to be small even as a solo traveller, but it was very cosy, and the more I was in the room, the more at home I felt. The room was perfectly clean, featuring a stocked minibar, tea-and coffee making facilities, an easy-to-use alarm clock next to the bed (handy for my 5.30 wake up next morning), and a flat screen TV. Wardrobes were also provided with additional amenities as well. I must also say, the bed was extremely comfortable; I got a great nights sleep despite the early wake-up. I would go back here again just for the bed!
The bathroom was also perfectly clean, featuring a toilet with washing facilities, a bath, and a shower, with a nice sink area and amenities. The room floor was wooden, but the entry hall and the bathroom floors were tiled. The floor tiles in the bathroom were underfloor heated (not in a lukewarm way but actually warm like a radiator) which was so lovely on a very cold evening! See attached pictures. I also had access to the executive lounge, where light food and drinks were served during the evening. Despite the floor seemingly being almost empty when I checked-in online, there were certainly a few people in here eating and drinking. I didn't go in there myself, but it was right next to my room.
I dined in the restaurant that evening for dinner, Restaurant Gui. Reception made a reservation for me when I checked-in for 6.30PM. Being a Sunday night, there were only two other couples there, but 2-3 more couples arrived while I dined. The menu actually had a lot of choice on it, and I opted for just a main course (having eaten alot during the day) of Cod, which was fantastic, full of flavour, so white and moist. Great to taste fresh fish from this far North. I also had a side of "house potatoes", which were addictive. The restaurant was so quiet that it the service was extremely quick. It only took 10-15 mins for the food to arrived, and I was finished by 7.10PM! Unfortunately, I did not have time the next morning to stop in for Breakfast before I had to leave. The dishes on the menu were all quite expensive (the Cod dish was 26 euros), but I'm told everything in Finland is like this, so I don't consider it a negative.
The reception staff, and the waiting staff in the restaurant, were all very polite and professional, and all spoke absolutely perfect English.
I must say I really loved this hotel between the Nordic room design (especially the comfy bed and underfloor heating in the bathroom), the restaurant, and the location close to the airport. I'll definitely stay here the next time I am passing through Helsinki Vantaa airport, and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
