Outside the business and traffic of Addis this gem is hidden. Decorated with elegant African style it's sure to five you the finer taste of Ethiopia. Friendly staff - where I was helped in both English and Spanish, quaint curio shops and good service this is sure to be a pleasant experience. Swimming pools, comfort etc. Everything here is at your fingertips.

The staff are friendly and efficient. The beds and linens are great. The carpets are filthy, and the toilet seats are pealing which gives you a sense the rest of the room isn't as clean as it should be.

I recently started building loyalty with the Hilton, however their hotel in Addis, left me absolutely dissatisfied, the rooms were old, not well maintained, the towels looked like they weren't changed in many years. The only positive that I enjoyed was the extra $55 that I paid to be on the executive floor, allowed me a late check out. If the Hilton wants my business in Ethiopia, they need to make this hotel modern.

The Hilton is rather dated but comfortable and set in beautiful gardens. Breakfast was excellent with a fruit and juice bar, buffet and egg chef. The hotel is still the place that everyone has their meetings so, although there are newer and more luxurious hotels, the Hilton is still the place to stay.

I returned following a visit earlier this year. The hotel is very old and tired and without a large injection of funds will continue its steep decline. Having visited this hotel for the last 18 years it is sad to see how rapidly it has declined in the past 2 years. The staff as always are friendly and welcoming but they cannot compensate for the total lack of maintenance. The rooms are shabby and old. Very sad. It is no longer worth the effort to return.

Great place with lots of property to wander. Excellent staff, shops, big pool for laps, patio cafe, breakfast buffer, internet. Very child-friendly. Safe, clean, quiet. Has bakery and grocery in compound. Exercise equipment, spa. Oldest big hotel in Addis but still is competitive with newer ones.

I have stayed at the Hilton before in 2008 so I had no worries in staying there again. I was on a pre-arranged 'daily trips holiday', organised by Priceless Ethiopia tours and used the hotel a base. The old girl is looking tired and in need of some T.L.C, but is still a good place to stay. The rooms are clean and the staff friendly and the what food I had there was more than adequate. Ignore the 'always pessimists' and this hotel will treat you well.

The staff are wonderful but the building needs serious updating. Paint, carpeting and decorating wold turn this place into a real resort. The amount you pay for a room is much to expensive for the condition of the hotel. So much potential.

Ethiopian airlines arranged this hotel for us because we had a 15 hour gap between two flights. We got excited when we realised it was going to be a Hilton hotel. The positives first. Reasonably close to the airport so 20 to 30 min trip depending on the traffic. It was clean. The breakfast was good and there were loads to choose from. Staff was very friendly. Good internet in the room if you become a Hilton member of something or other. The negatives were that it looked and felt old. It smelled ... Read more

I stayed at this hotel for nearly one month while working in Addis Ababa. The food was mediocre, the building itself is old and the decor is outdated. If there is any kind of party/event hosted by the hotel you will not sleep; there is no soundproofing. The rooms are quite cool as Addis Ababa is elevated, but you cannot control the heater and you will be freezing. TV shows just a few channels and internet access is pay by the day. The hotel is crying for a revamp. Rooms are musty and outdated have not been renovated since the 70's. Could hear neighbors in rooms next door almost as if there was no wall. Restaurant lacks atmosphere and totally overpriced. Reception staff are cold and militant. They waste 5 mins of your time when checking in trying to sell you a room upgrade. No free wifi (!). No fruit at breakfast. Old but well equipped gym.

The bathrooms are ancient and water system the same, hard to understand why they don;t renovate.

I recently stayed in the Hilton in Addis for one week. It was a very successful choice for several reasons. Amenities wise, it is well set up to be a comfortable oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Addis. Esthetically, it is somewhat dated but in a very pleasant time travelling back to the 1970s way. It has extensive grounds, a few pools, good restaurants and two charming bars. Services is pleasant and attentive. Being Addis, services can be somewhat unpredictable. The Hilton st... Read more

Last week in the mid of Ramadan fasting I was invited for Iftar to my friends house. Hilton‚??s cake was my favorite so I went there to buy a chocolate torte cake. It looks beautiful when you see it, surprisingly all of the family is sick and the cake was spoiled how come a three star hotel provide such a contaminated cake for a potential customer I always spend my weekend time at the garden with friends. I will not recommend anyone to even see the pastry shop at all.

Good restaurant, great pool and an old school classic built by Emperor Selassie. I can only imagine how high end this was in the 60s, but it is a little dated now with the new Sheraton and AU hotels. But for the price point, it is the best luxury hotel in Addis. And the Internet is reliable, unlike the Radisson. And a great gym unlike the Sheraton.

I returned to the Hilton after a 16-year gap, and after spending some weeks at a much newer hotel in the same city, I found the Hilton little changed. The government, which owns the buildings and the land, is unwilling to finance the major repairs required. Consequently, the rooms and apartments, and some outdoor amenities, are a little shabby. The lobby bar serves decent macchiato and light meals. The castel beer, a local variety beer, is excellent! There are two government gift shops that are reasonably priced, one at the pool area and one opposite the reception desk. The others are over-priced. Did not love this hotel at all. It is dated, the rooms are moldy smelling and the bathrooms look like they are falling apart - this is no more than a 3 star hotel at best. I had stayed at this hotel 15 years ago. Unfortunately, it has not been updated. While it has a nice restaurant, good shopping and is convenient, there is a need to give the lobby an updated look. They have very good reception, helpful staff, good security system and screening. The wifi is good specially in the room but you need to contact the reception to take a new access code every two days for example. The rooms are clean. The best rooms are in the higher floors with a view on the swimming pool. If you are going to book ni... Read more

This hotel used to be good but has been run down and badly needs refurbishment, including notably the bathrooms and spa. Also the quality of food leaves much to be desired. The better restuarant and bar have closed down and not replaced.

I was very impressed by the efficiency, kindness, and overall composure of the hotel staff at the Hilton Addis Ababa. They made me feel special and more importantly, feel at home. While the actual guestrooms could do with an update, the facilities and amenities are top notch. Definitely a great choice.

The Hilton in Addis Ababa is a big hotel, located in large grounds. The hotel has all the usual amenities that you would expect, including business centre, gardens, bars and restaurants, swimming pool and so on. The foyer/lobby is very smart and imposing and gives a good impression on arrival. My room was very clean and smart. However, I have to say that the bathroom looked very tired and in need of refurbishment.I was also disappointed with the mini bar, which was empty. It begs the question a... Read more

This hotel has nice garden, cross-shaped swimming pool, the building and compound is clean and has nice view. Excellent amenities and highly cooperative and friendly staff but high priced services. For budget travelers it is out of his/her budget related to same rated hotels. I was really amazed their price is so expensive, do not consider all range travelers.

Great staff, tired décor, needs updating of rooms and facilities. Location can't be faulted nor can the staff, but the building, incl general facilities & rooms are way past there sell by date and need a total make over. It is way below what one has come to expect of a Hilton hotel.

Not a luxury room, I heard the neighbor's voices. Difficulties in arranging things at the reception. Breakfast: too much, nobody needs that much of choices. I would like to give special points for the nice lady of the service at the restaurant by the pool.

Me and my friends were at the Hilton Addis Ababa to have some drink, we were at the lobby bar and the bar man was so friendly and happy to make us comfortable actually he make it happen in a few minutes after our arrival! The cocktail he made is typically his own and I love it! We had a great time and have fun. Thanks Hilton Addis Ababa.

I liked the Hilton before but now it's just all downhill and I won't stay again. As for the good, this hotel has something not many others have - interesting character. You get a sense that this is where things happen, and there's history here. A fellow American commented in the elevator that the hotel hasn't changed at all since his last visit 20 years ago. There is a large area in the back including the pool which is excellent with natural warm water - however, it is often packed with kids r... Read more

Huge lobby, infrastructure, tennis, pool, spa, gym ... its infrastructure is overwhelming. Food is good especially menu from terrace restaurant. Restaurants inside need better menu as a hilton restaurant. Garden is very nice. To minius all of this is old looking as at 80"s time. Rooms are very clean but need refresh. Service no doubt the best.

Collectively, all the reviews here on Tripadvisor are spot on: Yes, this hotel is in a great location in central Addis. Yes, the staff are friendly, welcoming and happy to help in any way they can. Yes, the hotel's grounds are impressive (remember this is in the middle of a major metropolis) with a thermal outdoor pool, minigolf course, lots of shops and restaurants, etc. Yes, the hotel's shuttle service to and from the airport is reasonably cheap ($8 each way) and reliable. A well located hotel within reasonable distance of a number of local landmarks. Staff are well trained, efficient and friendly and went out off their way to assist. There are a number of shops and external service providers, which further ensures that everything you need is on site. Reasonably priced spa treatments and an excellent gym. Many amenities, which in theory means that you don't have to leave the hotel but I would recommend that you take advantage of some of the tours that are availabl... Read more

The property is quite large, but you would never think you're in a Hilton. Rooms are getting old. My first room had stains on the carpet, while the second one was better. Bathroom is old as well and in both my rooms it was difficult to keep the water temperature setting at the same level. But overall, the rooms are clean....they just need new carpet and bathroom fixtures...The elevators can be slow. Gym is very good and while I did not use the pool, it looked very good. For Hilton platinum members you get a free snack offering each weekday evening which was good. Then we got free breakfast as well after we reached the platinum level. You only get points with Hilton up to 60 days so we had to check out of the hotel for the weekend and take a trip, then check back in each 60 days to keep our points going. The extra expense was worth it as we were traveling around on weekends anyway and this helped us build up points to use later after the tour of duty was over... Read more
