I was pleasantly surprised arriving at this hotel as it really is well appointed. Check in was simple and the rooms were great but the hot water takes ages to come through, wasting liters of water. The meals were good and the service in the bar and restaurant was excellent. This stay was totally spoilt by the loud music coming from the nightclub downstairs. My room actually shook all night as the music continued on until after 4am. I believe this to be unacceptable for any hotel to allow and pay... Read more

This has been my third stay at Friendship Hotel. More restaurants and lounges have opened on the main street so that is a big plus. It looks like there is a new chef because the food has changed and has been upgraded; not that there was an issue before. This is a good consistent hotel in the heart of Bole.

Weekends are a time to avoid this hotel which is next to a big nightclub playing techno music which is causing the building to vibrate. Forget sleeping on weekends here. A little old and rundown, maybe not all that clean, but otherwise (on weekdays) not as bad. I stayed here at the start of my trip on a Monday and it was fine. But tonight (Friday, or now Saturday), I've had zero sleep even with a white noise machine and earplugs.

Ethiopians are in general very warm friendly people, and you must enjoy the coffee after food PLUS walk in the late nights in the lanes of Bole road, without getting lost. Lot of night clubs in the vicinity... Review of the this hotel - 1. Ordinary hotel with courteous staff - except for the receptionists who look exhausted and wont smile even if you do (surprisingly) 2. Good in-room service 3. Reachable in 10 mins via road from the airport. Hotel provides complimentary pickup and drop to/fro... Read more

Nothing is exceptional at the FIH, but everything is OK. The rooms are large and clean. Rhe staff is friendly and Breakfast is nice. The location is very good, off Bole Rd. and very close to the airport. Prices are a bit high, but not unusual for Addis. In all - a reasonable place to stay.

The Hotel is Centrally Located in Addis Abba , walking distance from the famous Medhane Alem Church.. The hotel is decent for a short stay .. but will not rank it among the 4 star hotels .. its between a 2 star to 3 star hotel.. the room i stayed in was clean and decent . break fast buffet had not much to offer. but compared to other hotels i have stayed in Addis Abba.. i would not mind staying here again.. but if its only a short visit .

Stayed at the Friendship for two different nights. This is an obviously Chinese built hotel (Chinese characters on labels). The good: large room, clean bed linens and towels. The bad: very hard beds, leaking showers, and mediocre food. Breakfast and dinners are very average.

Other reviewers already mentioned hard beds (most uncomfortable bed in my life) and lack of a/c in the rooms, I can only confirm that nothing has changed in that regard. I'd like to focus on some other negatives: - Wifi was non-existent in the room and only occasionally worked in the reception/lobby area but it was barely functional. - Their "guidebook" in the room says that they can sell you stamps and send your mail for you. When I tried to get this done the reception worker looked me like I a... Read more

The hotel rooms and the main conference room were large and accommodating. However if you are going to install yellow rugs you better be prepared to clean them. I don't think that has happened for years. The hardest bed I have ever slept in. The staff are friendly and say yes to everything even when they don't understand what the question was. Be prepared to take time to ensure you are understood. Close to numerous restaurants and shopping.

Many new hotels have come on stream in Addis Ababa in recent years, particularly in the Bole district between the city centre and airport. Friendship International is one of these - very adequate facilities, clean and friendly. Food was reasonable, not outstanding. Unfortunately none of these new hotels have any garden space around them - access straight onto the street. But perfectly adequate for a few days on business.
