Clean, modern hotel in old settings. Friendly, informative staff. Nothing is too much trouble to them. We stayed here for one night. We got a tour guide right outside the front door to show us the city. Most things are nearby. Resturants, bars and shopping are just round the corner. We would choose this hotel if we were ever back in Santo Domingo.

Located in the colonial zone this historic building has been tastefully transformed. The rooms have lots of character are well decorated and serviced daily. The food at the restaurant is good and breakfasts are a treat sat in the court yard. Staff are pleasant and helpful. The bar area is lovely located next to the pool The best entertainment is to grab a presidente beer sit back and watch the Iberia airlines pilots hit on there crew members. Always entertaining

everything was great except an afternoon downpour brought a large amount of rain through our window. this happened 2x in 1 night. they cleaned it up the first time. it happened again in the evening but when they turned down the sheets the rain water was not cleaned up....only wet towels were left on the windowsill to soak up the rain water.

Our son was married in Santo Domingo recently and we had a group of around 50 people staying at the Hostal Nicolas de Ovando Santo Domingo. This hotel is top notch. The landscaping is gorgeous, the rooms are great (and cool! Good AC), wonderful food...friendly staff. I highly recommend this hotel. We had a wonderful time and wouldn't hesitate to return. Fantastic location for Colonial zone, too.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of "Zona Colonial". I personally love to stay in hotels where i can feel the essence of the country, and this was perfect. Lots of common areas with fountains, gardens and traces. The room was lovely and the bed was super comfy. In the morning, the breakfast buffet was really good. The only complain that I have was the day I decided to get some sun at the pool, the laying beds were naked, and there was nobody around to help me. I ended up doing it by myself. Over... Read more

Staff was excellent and the best part but hotel is way over priced , nothing special in the room decor or style , would not pay 200 a night again for this I'm sure there are better options . Location is great and again staff amazing but it doesn't make up for it

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend in June 2016. The location is great and in the beautiful colonial area of Santo Domingo. The hotel is beautiful, quaint, and quiet. It would be ok for a night or weekend stay but there is not enough to offer for an extended stay. The main problem is the prices at the hotel and the restraunt that it offers. For a small continental style breakfast for 2 people for 3 days, the charge was over $150 usd. Considering the food itself and service especially with... Read more

I lived in this hotel for about 10 weeks in summer, 2015. My company paid for the stay so I don´t have a feel for how expensive it was, but the experience was awesome. This is a ~500 year old building so every day felt like traveling back in time. The hotel is beautiful and I enjoyed simply wandering the halls. The pool is fun and the restaurant is great - I am a picky eater and the staff customized my meals for me. The location is perfect for exploring the colonial zone, which is the main... Read more

Based in the old part of town in an old governours house the hotel is a gem. Parking just outside if you are a guest you will be welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. A welcome drink to help cool down and a fresh wet towel will be offered at arrival. The check in is friendly, first we got a room with two single beds and they changed to a double without a fuss. The rooms are nice, some in a modern style some more in a rustic layout but all nicely kept and very clean. The bar offers some nice dr... Read more

The hotel is in a lovely old building in the heart on historic Santo Domingo. The location is great and the hotel has lots of old world charm. The room was fairly small but comfortable with some great original features. I was disappointed that the hotel did not acknowledge my accor status, no welcome drink was offered and no room upgrade. Check in was also slow and confused. There was also confusion over my booking as I originally booked the other mgallery in Santo Domingo and my booking was tra... Read more

This hotel has an incredible charm, it is located in zona colonial, there is a lot of history there. The architecture in this building is absolutely beautiful, there is a lot of detail wherever you go. The rooms are amazingly comfortable and they give you this feeling of touching history when you are in them. The service is impeccable from the moment you step in until you leave. They have a nice pool and a bar plus a pool table. This hotel is close to some of the best landmarks of santo domingo... Read more

Besides the history of this hotel wich was habitated by the first governor of the island Señor Nicolás de Ovando, the comfort and the luxury in its most simple way makes of this hotel the classic of the colonial area. The pools are Looks into the Ozama river, right in front of where Columbus attached one of his ships. Breakfast and service are great

I stayed here a few nights and the experience was wonderful. Service is incredible. Bar staff is attentive and friendly. Front desk service could use some work. I had to at several times get my key re-authorized as it stopped working. If there was another patron being attended to I was not even acknowledged with a "Be with you in one moment". This also happened when I was trying to check out and I can see a luxury traveler being annoyed by this. Given the price and level of other services at the... Read more

I've read some of the reviews for this hotel and for the most part it stands up to its good reputation. Hotel staff from the doorman, all the way to the housemaids are very friendly and courteous. I stayed in one of the suites, room 3015 to be exact and the accommodations were spacious and very comfortable. Television stations were limited to very few English speaking stations and the selection of channels were not what I expected, but then again I was not in the room too often. The selection of... This is a very nice hotel located in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo. Within walking distance to a lot of restaurants, shops, and attractions. Staff was very nice. Here are a few of the good, the bad, and the ugly: ~ Found it odd that the room did not have a clock, iron, or ice bucket. ~ I found the bed to be painfully hard, but the hotel staff provided a mattress pad right away ~ Was charged $35 in local calls. There are no signs or warnings of this. Was a little surprised upon checking ou... Read more

I have stayed in Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando (Colonial district, Santo Domingo) for 8 nights on business. It is located in a quiet, but safe region of the city. The hotel staff (some of whom speak English) have been both extremely helpful & most caring and kind. I could not have asked for a better Dominican welcome. My requirements were simple and straightforward - but their assistance and support was 'beyond words'. Despite the hurricane (which lasted for 3 days), the quality of the service was 5... Read more

Greeted by the bellman with small hot towel and refreshment. The bellman was excellent. Front desk agent was good at check in but unpleasant at checkout. The hotel is in a clean , safe environment and close to many good restaurants and museums at walking distance. Food in the hotel is a little too high especially the mini bar. Only 1 complimentary small bottle of water.

Late in the evening, on business trip, with paid reservation in hand, I arrived at my usual hotel only to find that it had been entirely closed for remodeling. No one told me! Booking agency goofed! What to do?! There was a contact person who offered me alternate lodging at a "Hostal". Oh, whatta wonderful surprise when I walked into "Nicolas de Ovando", a pleasure to be treated like a true Guest, welcomed and appreciated. The Hotel, not hostal, was wonderful, quietly located in the Colonial Are... Read more

This place has seen shinnier days when it belonged to the Sofitel family. Unfortunately, it has lost all its former charm and allure today, although it remains located in a prime unbeatable location of Ciudad Colonial. Rooms are a bit tired, smell very strongly of damp and, what is unexcusable in a hotel of this category and price range: toilets are awfully dirty. We did complain and sincerely hope for other future guests that these flaws are on the mend.

I can't say I am impressed ,though the hotel has great potential. If you see the price and the location you can assume that it is one of the best hotels in town. Having said this I have to state that time and time again I am surprised by Carribean standards. It may be the best hotel in town but by international standards not even good middle class, though prices suggest otherwise. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, the service in the bar very slow, the Internet did not work good enough with ma... Read more

This review is based upon the management, not the employees. This will be the fifth time I have stayed here the previous four times it was under the ownership of "M Galleries". The previous times were great, they took care of the details which is what makes the difference. I would not recommend staying here currently for what you are going to to pay. My room is a suite and they did not provide the following items: has an expression machine with not pods, cups or sugar. No wash cloths in the... Read more

Stayed for a night. Had a room facing the dock where the boat to Puerto Rico is stationed. Room was big, spacious with all amenities expected from a 5 star hotel. Bed very comfortable, bathroom spacious and nespesso on offer in the room. Breakfast was good, with a large variety on offer. Was a Sunday and is open for non guests to be served. Seating area maybe a bit too small, so quite crowded. Had pre dinner drinks that were well prepared, but bar service a bit slow. Hotel is pricy but consid... Read more
