The atmosphere you feel when you enter this magnificent great taste hotel is both of modernity and ancient facility. Cozy, confortable, and relaxing. The staff is great and always wanting to help. Great location.

Had a wonderful one night stay at Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando as we parted from our resort on Bavaro Beach for a 2 day exploration of the old city. The hotel was built out of the remnants of a 500 year old building and exuded charm and tasteful decor throughout the hotel. The room was contained and had a circular staircase going up to the washroom. Great breakfast buffet and centrally located for exploration of the old town. Highly recommended and reasonably priced.

I previously visited Santo Domingo, but stayed at a different major hotel. This hotel is easily leaps and bounds above where I have stayed before All of the staff was professional, pleasant, and very accommodating (except one tall guy, dressed in very nice suits daily, who seemed to have an attitude-- there is always one in the bunch...right?). The building is a historical palace. The rooms are not your standard, run-of-the-mill, hotel rooms. They are thoughtfully, yet beautifully, designed ... Read more

Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando was a beautiful hotel in Zona Colonial. The hotel room was beautiful and the bed was super comfortable. There was a great view from the room of the main street and a old colonial square across the way. We ate at the pool and bar during the day. Food and drinks are more expensive then in town on the walking street, El Conde, but this is the nicest hotel in Zona Colonial, so it was expected. The food and drinks were great! The hotel has the best location. It is very clos... Read more

The Nicolas de Ovando is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed. The 1502 building makes it one of the oldest historical buildings of Santo Domingo. Rooms and other common areas preserve the beauty of the location. Great service, wonderful breakfast, spacious rooms, magical atmosphere.

The hotel is situated on the first paved street in the new world; it is a short, one block from the main plaza, which is the place to go at night. We have only stayed at the hotel once, but for two weeks, and would go back. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning, fresh pineapple juice, yum! We took advantage of the pool, the billiards table, and the free parking across the street. The only negative was the bar, which was slow and unfriendly.

Great location in the colonial district. You can walk to museums and cafes easily. Room was well appointed and we had a view of the river. Except for the one night where there was a loud party in the courtyard until midnight, the room was surprisingly quiet. Oddly though, the smoke detector is located on the ceiling over the bed and it emitted continual blinking lights in erratic patterns. Bring an eye mask.

Stayed for a night. Had a room facing the dock where the boat to Puerto Rico is stationed. Room was big, spacious with all amenities expected from a 5 star hotel. Bed very comfortable, bathroom spacious and nespesso on offer in the room. Breakfast was good, with a large variety on offer. Was a Sunday and is open for non guests to be served. Seating area maybe a bit too small, so quite crowded. Had pre dinner drinks that were well prepared, but bar service a bit slow. Hotel is pricy but consid... Read more

This review is based upon the management, not the employees. This will be the fifth time I have stayed here the previous four times it was under the ownership of "M Galleries". The previous times were great, they took care of the details which is what makes the difference. I would not recommend staying here currently for what you are going to to pay. My room is a suite and they did not provide the following items: has an expression machine with not pods, cups or sugar. No wash cloths in the... Read more

I can't say I am impressed ,though the hotel has great potential. If you see the price and the location you can assume that it is one of the best hotels in town. Having said this I have to state that time and time again I am surprised by Carribean standards. It may be the best hotel in town but by international standards not even good middle class, though prices suggest otherwise. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, the service in the bar very slow, the Internet did not work good enough with ma... Read more
