I recently travelled to Samana to stay at this resort. Being a smaller resort it made it very easy to get around to all the facilities. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The beach was awesome, and catered to the very reason for the get away, R & R in the sun.The food at this resort was very good and we also sampled 4 a la carte restaurants. They were exceptional !! All in all a great resort for beach, relaxation, and sun.

Check in was quick/polite staff (our flight was delayed about an hour so we got to check in right away). We were taken to our room right away. Hurried up to the beach to catch the sunset. Met Euclides tending the beach bar. He is the best! Had a couple beers, then heading to the lobby bar. The lobby bar, I think we were there at a weird time, there was no music playing at all. I would have loved some bachata playing or something; they didn't mind me playing some of my music quietly. Later a ge... Read more

We stayed at El Portillo from Feb 1-8. We were a family of 4 (children aged 2 and 5). We have travelled to Punta Cana twice (4.5 and 5 star), Jamaica (5 star) and Cuba (4.5 star) which we went to last year with the children. This resort was right up there with the rest, including the 5 stars. The bus ride was a bit long but the views are amazing, it could be an excursion on its own. Check in and bracelets were done on the way and our key cards were laid out on a table so no need to wait in lin... Read more

After a long journey, 9 hour flight and 3 hour transfer, we arrived, and OMG, was it worth it. Check in was easy and the Bell Boy walked us to our room and showed us how to programme the safety deposit box which will cost you $56 for 2 weeks. Then it was time for dinner then bed. Adjusting to the 4 hour difference was easy ( a completely different matter returning home!! ). Our room was in block 4 which was ideally located for the beach and restaurants, but not in any way noisy. Being on the fi... Read more

If you want a quieter, peaceful, absolutely breathtaking scenery, this is the place for you! No resorts nearby, you can wonder along the shore line for quite some time. Unlike other places in Dominican, the water is calm and clear due to the bay location. Beautiful fish to see all around. Their a la carte is very posh, and exquisite, especially the Italian... This resort is best for a family, a couple or a group of friends that can make their own fun, as the night life was rather dull on the res... Read more

Stayed at the el Portillo from January 17- 24. Arrived in the evening. Check in was quick & easy. We had booked a Superior Junior Suite & were promptly taken to our room in building 26. Had issues with the AC so we called & within minutes someone was there (patio door hadn't been closed properly). Beautiful large room & bathroom. Fridge was stocked with beer & water. Bed was on the firmer side but comfy. The resort is amazingly clean. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Plenty of choi... Read more

I would say this hotel covers what most people are looking for on holiday. It is a big hotel and the Bahia group found a really nice location with miles of palm backed sand that is protected from the big waves by a coral reef. So when there isn't too much wind snorkeling can be a fun option. Unlike Puerta Plata and Punta Cana there are no back to back hotels here, just endless beaches with the odd abandoned house and you really can find peace, solitude and paradise by just walking a little way f... My wife and I vacation an average of twice a year including all over the Caribbean, Mexico, Fiji and Australia. We were looking to find a new destination with a great beach and we were not disappointed with our choice of Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo. We have been fortunate to witness first hand several of the top ranked beaches in the world ie. Grace Bay in Turks, Whitehaven Beach in Australia, Cayo-Coco, Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba and the hundreds of white beaches in Fiji. In a nutshell, E... Read more

We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo January 17 through the 24th and then stayed at Viva Wyndham Samana January 24 through the 31st. VWS is located mid way between the Samana airport and (EP). This resort has 608 rooms so about 1200 adults plus children when full. The resort is located in a glorious setting with little else located nearby. ACCOMMODATION We contacted the resort by e-mail one week prior to arriving and requested our preferred accommodations. We were provided with ex... Read more

We stayed last week Jan 24th to Jan 31st resort was very clean, food was great, beach is beautiful, kid friendly (although lacking decent night entertainment) The a la carte were fantastic.. Drive from airport was resort was even beautiful. My dislikes: We booked 4 months in advanced for a group trip (10 of us) We were placed in the far end of the resort, which we didn't mind,,,but our balcony over looked nothing..except all the staff leaving every night,,,the staff were extremely loud, carr...
