Very nice beach, great friendly staff, a good choice of nice food and drinks. A variety of restaurants and bars, entertainment at the pool and on the beach, gym, spa, clean and comfortable rooms. Close to the local village. Shops and doctor available inside of the complex. We had a lovely holiday. Nothing to complain about, they really take care of guests. It is a really nice place.

Don't waste your money going to this place. I stayed a week in June 2016 and just came back. The buffet food is average; donuts are hard, no lobster or shrimp, the desserts are stale and there is not great variety. I have been to other all inclusives and I can definitely see the difference in the quality. The orange juice is not fresh and neither are any of the juices they offer, as compared to Memories Splash in Punta Cana for example, where you get a great variety of freshly squeezed juice... We were there from June 18 to 25. Room: Good size and clean. The fridge never worked even if we asked for it to be fixed. It was the same for our neighbor next door. The AC worked most of the time which was good enough but it did stop to work once in a while. Probably because there is a relay in the balcony door that makes it stop if you open the door and it was not well adjusted. Also the bathroom fan never worked which made it very humid in there. Beach: Was great, very beautiful. If y... Read more

I thought I would start with a complaint. Not about the hotel but about the other whining people on here who have posted. I really am not sure what they were expecting but I have nothing but praise for the place and I consider myself quite choosy when it comes to hotels. Anyway. Positives: Immaculately kept and maintained (i even watched the maintenance crew painting bins). As someone who runs a few large facilities, I know how difficult it can be but the place was immaculate. The grounds were ... Read more

We just flew back from a two wk stay here. I really can't see why people are complaining so much. Compared to our experience it was totally different. The only drawback is, we read reviews saying 45 mins transfer from airport by Canadian visitors. Not realising until after booking that British visitors fly to a different airport and our transfer was a very tiring, hot 3 and half hours! Checking in was quick, efficient and we were in villas 15 so really close. Thank God for air-conditioning... Read more

We spent a week at this all inclusive resort in May (end of May 2016). It was low season so we got a great deal for the week. The resort has a nice splashy park for children (appropriate for 2 years old and up), and an indoor air conditioned play area with small outdoor playground for kids. The buffet restaurant was good, what we expected. Rooms were clean, and the property was nice. The resort offered 1 hour free wi-fi to be used only in the lobby area. If you like a beach resort, this place is a gem! We have stayed at this resort three times, and would definitely return. Beautiful, clean, well run resort, with excellent food. 45 minutes from El Catey airport (much longer drive if you fly into Puerto Plata). Standard rooms, can be a little small, but clean and comfortable. Our last stay was in building 4, which was quiet, and close to everything. If you can get a Junior suite, they are much larger. Only a 30 min drive from airport. Arrived at our room that was decorated for our honeymoon. A door banner, balloons and a gift of t-shirts and a bottle of rum. Thank you. This Grand Bahia hotel is #1, a family focused resort. "kids" of all ages were seen having a great time with the entertainment crew, playing games at the beach/pool. The pool and beach are right on top of one another. Very convenient. Others were swimming, snorkeling, water boarding, and using canoes to explore the reefs. While others, like myself, relaxed in the many covered seated areas; playing cards reading a book, watching the clouds roll by or having a snooze. There is plenty and readily... Read more

We stayed here last year with my friends and family for my spouses' birthday celebration. We had a great time, food was good nothing fancy. Beach was okay, there's always red flags so a lot of drunk people as they have nothing else to do. Some rooms have been updated. If you go by a group, make sure you book it all once or you may not be close together. Our holiday was the middle two weeks of June. Very little rain but when it did come during the day (twice) it lasted minutes. Very humid but good in the sense that you just have to slow down and relax. June meant very few children there and so I suspect a lot quieter as a result. We had a junior suite, so a little larger than many hotel rooms, always clean, always replenished. I stayed at The Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo with my boyfriend from august 21-28. This was an amazing experience. I've been to a few resorts before but nothing like the Grand Bahia. I have no complaints... We stayed in a villa style room (2202) with a garden view, the room was modern, everything worked in the room. The staff were very friendly and the resort is well kept and clean beyond expectation. The food was great, with tons of variety. We tried the Gourmet and Italian a la carte dinner... Read more

I went with my friend from Aug 21-28 2016. Samana is a beautiful beach with absolutely crystal clear water. It was very picturesque and there's a coral reef to snorkel around. There wasn't a huge abundance of fish, however it was pretty neat to see a couple tropical fish around the coral reef. That being said, this resort is more catered towards families and kids. If you're a couple or single, I would suggest to go to an adults only resort because there were A LOT of kids everywhere. FRONT DES... Read more

Why the dilemma: This has become our annual vacation destination. We love the facilities: the rooms are well maintained and are very comfortable. The lobby is always clean and welcoming. The beach is beautiful, as are the pools. The buffet has excellent food and has a wide array of food selections. The a la carte restaurants are impressive. In my humble opinion, they can go toe to toe with a fine dining place in my home town. The food is excellent. The service is impeccable. One huge bonus is: ... Read more

I am a little late in writing this review on vacation from August 20 for 1 week. Got to the airport and they check you in right away. Since it was at night that we arrived they put us at the restaurant right away. Great idea!. The following day was beautiful, I have to say this is the first time that I was in the ocean all the time and not once at the pool. Not to say the pool wasn't nice but the ocean was so clear no seaweed, little waves and warm. The food was great and we ate (too much)... Read more

Amazing ! This trip was simply amazing. It was my husband , my 2yr old and myself. Our room was across from the children water park which is very smart when you have a hyper 2yr old. The beach was great. To be able to snorkel walking distance from your hotel is unreal. They aquatic life you see for how far you are from shore is amazing. I would only expect that from deep sea diving. The beach itself was great. We had no problems getting shaded seats to sit on any time of the day. Same goes for t... Read more

We spent two weeks end of September - beginning of October 2016, two adults, two kids. This was our first time at El Portillo, eleventh time at Bahia Principe in 11 years. The resort is smaller than Punta Cana, for exemple. But everything is quality. The beach is amazing, beautiful fish even on the shore. We were surprised to discover the sea was different in the morning than in the afternoon because of high / low tide. Food is delicious, the chefs are artists. Dinners were not repetitive t... Sorry to all Privilege Club members. The Grand Bahia Chain has cancelled all privileges in its restaurants as we have found out this week. Where last year you can order a bottle of champagne or a bottle of wine, this year ZERO! No reason was given. The sales people were taken aback as well as our concierge. Awaiting to see how they spin this now. You can still get your choice of a Glass at the main bar.

The service and decor it provides to it's customer is outstanding. The beach is magnificent, you can walk for miles on white sand never seeing another person. The palm trees line the entire beach, you can walk to the town of las terranes, and induldge in local fair without being hassled.
