Very nice beach, great friendly staff, a good choice of nice food and drinks. A variety of restaurants and bars, entertainment at the pool and on the beach, gym, spa, clean and comfortable rooms. Close to the local village. Shops and doctor available inside of the complex. We had a lovely holiday. Nothing to complain about, they really take care of guests. It is a really nice place.

Don't waste your money going to this place. I stayed a week in June 2016 and just came back. The buffet food is average; donuts are hard, no lobster or shrimp, the desserts are stale and there is not great variety. I have been to other all inclusives and I can definitely see the difference in the quality. The orange juice is not fresh and neither are any of the juices they offer, as compared to Memories Splash in Punta Cana for example, where you get a great variety of freshly squeezed juice... We were there from June 18 to 25. Room: Good size and clean. The fridge never worked even if we asked for it to be fixed. It was the same for our neighbor next door. The AC worked most of the time which was good enough but it did stop to work once in a while. Probably because there is a relay in the balcony door that makes it stop if you open the door and it was not well adjusted. Also the bathroom fan never worked which made it very humid in there. Beach: Was great, very beautiful. If y... Read more

I thought I would start with a complaint. Not about the hotel but about the other whining people on here who have posted. I really am not sure what they were expecting but I have nothing but praise for the place and I consider myself quite choosy when it comes to hotels. Anyway. Positives: Immaculately kept and maintained (i even watched the maintenance crew painting bins). As someone who runs a few large facilities, I know how difficult it can be but the place was immaculate. The grounds were ... Read more

We just flew back from a two wk stay here. I really can't see why people are complaining so much. Compared to our experience it was totally different. The only drawback is, we read reviews saying 45 mins transfer from airport by Canadian visitors. Not realising until after booking that British visitors fly to a different airport and our transfer was a very tiring, hot 3 and half hours! Checking in was quick, efficient and we were in villas 15 so really close. Thank God for air-conditioning... Read more

We spent a week at this all inclusive resort in May (end of May 2016). It was low season so we got a great deal for the week. The resort has a nice splashy park for children (appropriate for 2 years old and up), and an indoor air conditioned play area with small outdoor playground for kids. The buffet restaurant was good, what we expected. Rooms were clean, and the property was nice. The resort offered 1 hour free wi-fi to be used only in the lobby area. I think they should expand that and ... Read more

We had an excellent week in Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo in Samana in early June; Our room was perfect and very clean, excellent food choice at the buffet and great A la Carte restaurants. Service is excellent everywhere and always comes with a smile. I will go again for sure in a near future.

If you like a beach resort, this place is a gem! We have stayed at this resort three times, and would definitely return. Beautiful, clean, well run resort, with excellent food. 45 minutes from El Catey airport (much longer drive if you fly into Puerto Plata). Standard rooms, can be a little small, but clean and comfortable. Our last stay was in building 4, which was quiet, and close to everything. If you can get a Junior suite, they are much larger. But for the time we are in the room, the s... Read more

We recently went to Grand Bahia for our honeymoon. Loved that we were already checked in at the airport and just given our room keys and maps there. No waiting in a long line at reception! Only a 30 min drive from airport. Arrived at our room that was decorated for our honeymoon. A door banner, balloons and a gift of t-shirts and a bottle of rum. Thank you. Loved the small resort with heaps to offer. It was never more than a 5 min walk to anywhere on the resort. They had a shuttle if anyone had... Read more

This Grand Bahia hotel is #1, a family focused resort. "kids" of all ages were seen having a great time with the entertainment crew, playing games at the beach/pool. The pool and beach are right on top of one another. Very convenient. Others were swimming, snorkeling, water boarding, and using canoes to explore the reefs. While others, like myself, relaxed in the many covered seated areas; playing cards reading a book, watching the clouds roll by or having a snooze. There is plenty and readily... Read more

We stayed here last year with my friends and family for my spouses' birthday celebration. We had a great time, food was good nothing fancy. Beach was okay, there's always red flags so a lot of drunk people as they have nothing else to do. Some rooms have been updated. If you go by a group, make sure you book it all once or you may not be close together. The resort is huge, so if you have older people, you'd have to wait for a trolley or walk 3-5 minutes to the restaurant or lobby. The horseback ... Read more

Our holiday was the middle two weeks of June. Very little rain but when it did come during the day (twice) it lasted minutes. Very humid but good in the sense that you just have to slow down and relax. June meant very few children there and so I suspect a lot quieter as a result. We had a junior suite, so a little larger than many hotel rooms, always clean, always replenished. What made this holiday was the location (far enough away from airports that you have to make the effort to get there), th... Read more

Currently staying there for 3 weeks: Quite good hotel but charge 59$ for wifi, just not acceptable for a 5 stars hotel... Beautiful and long beach, food correct, clean. Just a pity that wifi is still a luxe... Around 2 hours and half to come from santo Domingo airport

What a wonderful resort. This is one of the best vocation spots me and my son has been to! Great trips. We went on the safari to or and the national park tour, where we had a great time. The snorkeling is just great, food delicious, beach beautiful, everything just amazing! I would really recommend this resort to you!

Hapiness! Rooms are very good, all the meals st the buffet are really good, in quantity and quality. Meals at the special restaurants are ok. Swimming pool is enough good, hot water, a little small but the sea is so beautiful,so calm and ao warm that the pool doesnt matter. Animation is amazing!! We recommend it If you book a trip, book at rhe beach with Vicente 24! He is the best! Totally safe, you eat amazing lobster at his house maid by his wife! We booked from July 9th - July 16th in the Royal Golden Section of the Bahia Principe El Portillo. The room was very nice and Clean. The room was big and met all Bahia Standards( This was my 4th time in a Bahia) The check-in was great as it was done at night at the Airport. No welcome cocktail but it's fine as the bar is in the reception. In terms of the beach it was amazing, very nice beach. You can swim far or do snorckling which is great. Also, you can walk along the beach for an hour and mor... Read more

It was our first trip to Dominican and it surpassed all expectation. The scenery was stunning, beach was beautiful and never crowded and it was nice to be the only hotel along that part of coastline surrounded by a forest of palm trees. We were in a Junior Golden Suite which was huge, two queen beds and 1 single bed with lounge area, massive bathroom with separate walk in shower, bath with shower over, toilet and vanity. We stayed here between the 3rd July and 17th July and had been looking forward to this break since we booked it back in Feb 2016. We'd booked here because it appeared to be a perfect spot for a bit of relaxation and it did not disappoint. The Hotel was modern enough, although our room could have done with a bit of TLC. We were in apartment block 20, which is far enough back from the restaurants bars and lobby / reception area to afford a good nights sleep. The room itself was the usual standard... Read more

This was the 2nd time here and definitely the last. Check in is at 3 but I didn't get my room until 4 I asked for late check out, seems like a reasonable request for all the inconvenience ,yeah good luck with that. Food was repetitive and bland, they seem to cater to Europeans. The best restaurant Is the Italian, don't bother with any other one. On this trip we ate at the Italian and Rodizio and the last time the French and Seafood (yuck)!!!Not enough staff, you had to ask for basic things like... Read more
