The rooms are very nice, they have a patio door that opens to a medium sized balcony with a table and two chairs overlooking a nice adult pool with a wet bar. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The staff was pleasant and always smiling, willing to assist us when and if we asked. The workers are just that, they ARE workers, always doing something to make the grounds beautiful and your stay pleasant. The disappointing drawback is that we were 22 people and a good many of us had things missin... Read more

went there for a week jan 8-15 2017 enjoyed it very much, good food, nice beach, helpful staff. relaxing place, rooms were clean and spacious and comfortable. would go back there again. excursions to the different places in the area were fun and interesting. only thing that wasn't good was the weather but they cant control that, it was windy and would rain off and on but again not the resorts fault highly recommend this resort

Pros: Awesome family suite, beautiful beach, snorkelling, grounds, food is very good, service great, ability to walk the beach, super clean, wifi in lobby works well, nice options for a la carte meals. Cons: Periodic rain (research had not suggested this would be the case for early January), nightly entertainment is not great with the exception of Michael Jackson and circus shows), lack of a place for adults to have a drink after 11 without going to the disco. Trips: El Limon - It is beautiful b... Read more

We visited the Grand Bahia Principe El Portillo the first week in January 2017. We travel quite often and have been to several resorts throughout the Caribbean. It was our first time staying in this resort and we had our room in Villa 25. The resort is very, very clean. The food was very good, we tried the specialty restaurants and the buffet as well. The buffet always had great variety. The staff on this resort are extremely accommodating, cheerful and very pleasant. The beach is FANTASTIC,... Read more

Very good hotel based in one of the most beautiful beaches of Dominican Republic. Nice food, nice pool, amazing landscape, hot sea water, very good place to buzz. This hotel is ideal to go with family, the animation team is amazing, always happy and creating funny situations. One week is not enough, the time runs very fast!!! I will be back "Yo Volvere..."

Second trip to this place love it! Can't go wrong here, the staff work very hard to keep the place clean, service with a smile and the food is great. Love how organized they are, room keys and bracelets are handed out on the bus and we got our bags delivered to our room right away. Wish they would take our Canadian money as the USD is only benefiting the Americans. The pool is too small for the amount of people that stay during high season but we didn't care too much because the beach is the ... Read more

Arrived from Toronto on January 1st. Stayed for a week with my wife and I and 4 kids aged 24, 24, 23 and 20! The review represent this resort very well. The place is immaculate, the food is great and we had a fantastic time. We flew into Samana, it is a 25 minute bus ride through the beautiful countryside. Check in was seamless, as we were able to complete most of the check in details on the bus. Staff is very friendly and helpful. (Hint - have them connect you to the WiFi, they seam to... Read more

We spent Christmas week at the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo, a family of 5, the kids are 10, 10 and 12. It was great for the week's holiday, and the only thing I wish I'd been prepared for was the 4+hour transfer from Puerto Plata!! It took a good hour to get through the airport, with the whole plane queueing for 2 desks to pay the entrance tax, then further forms to complete for each child, and then the usual 'volunteer' porters highjacking our cases for tips, and then then coach trip was so... My boyfriend and I had a great week spent at El Portillo - loved every minute spent there! All the food we had was amazing, whether from the buffet or the a la cartes. We ended up going to the Rodizio Brazilian restuarant a second time because we loved it so much. Staff was great and always friendly. Room had all the amenities that we needed. The beach had lots of chairs to lounge on. The water has some swimming but is great for snorkeling. There is coral all over with lots of tropical fish to c... Read more
