Upon arriving we were treated with cold towels, but other family members were not. When My room number was given, I knew immediately it was not the location I requested. Upon arriving we were treated with cold towels, but other family members were not. When My room number was given, I knew immediately it was not the location I requested. We were in a Deluxe Royal Suite, which meant pool view. First room was 5834, the building I knew was the end of the resort and the most fartherest from the beach and everything. My sister was our travel agent. Keny at the front desk said go to the room and see what you think, our butler was called to take us. I was so disappointed, this was the most we ever paid on a trip, the location was so poor for dollar spent, and we booked December 31, so it was not a last minute booking, which is what you would expect for the location. I went back to lobby, he said come back tomorrow after he checked with someone in the office, to see what we can do. I did, he said come back at 10 the next day if you still want to move, we will see what we can do, store your luggage, and move you at 3:pm. I sent a message off to my sister, when we went back next day, it was much smoother, she had contacted Sunquest rep and said to move us. Transfer although next day was quick, and moved to 2 buildings close to lobby, 5500, 5300. Still quite far from beach, but better. I was amazed by some of the conditions of the buildings closer to beach, they were old looking. The first room we were in as well the furniture couch and chairs were very badly stained, and looking over the balcony, you seen a swimup, but fence next to road, not the scenery you expect for price. We have stayed at the Majestic Colonial, and the Now Larmiar, not in Perference sections, rooms, location, service, friendliness of worker, 10 times better. I felt so bad for my sister in law, and brother in law, it was the most expensive trip they have ever had too, and first impression was so disappointing.
The omelet and egg cooker at the Palace Buffet, we tipped and after the 3rd day he smiled, there seemed to be a severe staffing problem every where, no one liked their job. The head of each department at the Turquesa should visit the Now Larimar to see what their secret is to happy workers. Also note these resorts we paid way less, for better.
Our room was spotless every day, Quendy Nova was our Maid, it was perfect, I did leave a small gift, every day as appreciation.
We tried booking the steakhouse our second day with our butler and the only thing available was 10:00pm our last night so we didn't book. We ate at the Royal buffet twice, the first night was absolutely wonderful, we left a $10 tip, the second night was horrible, food uncooked, service well so bad, right down to giving our food to another table first. No offer of desert. We ate one breakfast here, and it was just ok, nothing special. We did stay at the Palace few years ago, and service, stay was way better, we had a room right on the beach, next to main pool, service so much better.
We hung out most evenings in the lobby of the Palace as it was so inviting, the lobby of the Royal, had a smell that was really not inviting, small, stuffy.
The servers in the palace buffet, started waving for us to sit in their sections, we made friends, Marie was so sweet, she quickly changed table cloths if there was a spec on them, made us special night coffee, which seemed not to be offered otherwise. The food in the Palace was very good, lots of choice, but the staff seemed to be unhappy this during our stay this time, last time I donot recall this at all.
The beach was wonderful, lots of area for walking, vendors were to the right, so beware if you go that way. The beach service was hit and miss, some days it was better than others, but those quys have a big job, for so many, another server would be great. There is no food directly close to the Royal beach section or bar to get yourself, which again for the money spent, those 2 items should be near by, closest is the pool, or walk down beach to another part of the resort. We mostly walked to the buffet at another part of the resort. The Sports Bar has under gone a great update, and was nice to go to one evening. The service we got by way of the trolly transportation was nice, that was the only thing that truly made us feel wow, but was that all we paid for. Our room was close to the pool view we had at the Majestic but the view itself at the Majestic way more inviting. Won't be returning this resort falls short of my expectations of a what a 5 star should be. Free wifi worked great first few days, then hit and miss outside our room. In the hallway one evening we seen a huge bug, I think it was a cockroach it was the size of a mouse.
