First of all let me say I have been a Grand Level member for several years. We love The Grand because of all the great staff. Recently I noticed that several of our favorite staff members were missing. I found that they were fired after Barcelo purchased the property. This was distressing because we look forward to visiting with them. They make us feel like part of a family. We hope Barcelo does not continue this practice. That being said it looks like a large renovation is about to start. The ... Read more

Just returned from another great trip to the Occidental Grand Royal Club. If you go to this hotel, I would definitely recommend upgrading to the Royal Club. Samuel, Hipolito and Hector take great care of you in the Royal Club dining room. The food is excellent and the service is better than a Ritz Carlton. The menu changes every day and they have a wonderful lobster night on Mondays. When you have to go home you will be sad because you will feel like you are leaving your family.

We read negative reviews of the rooms but we we were quite satisfied. The rooms were very clean and not shabby. but nice, The food was good. They had a wonderful assortment of fruits and vegetables. The only suggestion would be to serve tender meat. We preferred the food in the buffet as compared to the specialty restaurants. The staff was great. Some of the people who stood out were Maria Eugenia who greeted us each day at the buffet. Francisco made the best drinks at the swim up bar, a... Read more

this was my sixth visit to this site and still worth it. Like I said in previous reviews it is an older all inclusive but the beds are fantastic, the shower hot and a/c works. What makes the Royal Club worth the upgrade are the service staff, private restaurant and beach bar. It' been over a year since my last visit but Samuel and Racio remembered me and gave me a welcome hug. Recently purchased by Barcelo (sp) resorts major refurbishing of the general area has begun while I was there. Great p... Read more

Weather was great. We were there about 10 years ago. Not much has changed. It is clean but it is getting close to time for an update. They told us that later this year it is getting a complete update. The food in buffet is good and the ala carts are good. The staff were very good at trying to accommodate and friendly. I didn't like the old safes with the lock and key. Also after you checked in you have to wait in another line up to get a safe lock. Not to happy with that as they were very slow a... Read more

Do not get the first floor. Our room flood and help was no where to be found. When we reported the flood all we got was "Oh, sorry to hear that." Don't count on the information that the staff gives you to be correct. I was told twice that a restaurant would be open but when I tried to book on the day I was told, it was closed. After first couple of days, the hostess at La Buffet was not friendly. When we first arrived, they made sure we were walked to our seat. After that whenever we ate at La B... Read more

On arrival we were upgraded to First Club our room was just metres away from the amazing beach (best part about the hotel) Stayed here for 12 days and overall a great stay. I would strongly recommend to stay in either the First or Royal club as after reading other reviews from the people that just stayed on a basic package it seems they didn't get the same quality of stay. We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights and I can honestly say it was one of our best holidays ever. We booked this holiday last year September so we were really excited to go on it, especially as we tend to do Europe every year. First off, I was a little worried that this hotel would be terrible. But it turned out to not be so bad. We were in the First Club, with I guest that would be middle class living compared to the Royal Grand. Our Room was nice with a queen size bed and a pretty spacious bathroom. My only complaint was that the room did not have adequate lighting. There was only the night stand lamp to light the room. I almost did not book this all inclusive resort going by what I read on some reviews! I'm glad I didn't listen. We booked the Royal Club and we were given the royal treatment as soon as we got out of the shuttle even before they knew that we were the Royal Club. Welcome to my review, I hope you find it helpful. First was our time to Punta Cana, it is beautiful, serene and totally chilled. Hotel was listed as a 5*, most, but not all deserve the 5* rating. Rooms - in my opinion 3.5*, dated and tired, very dark, only 2 bed side lights but the huge bed was divine. We don't spent our holiday in the room, its merely a changing room and a place to sleep so, for us, it was ok but more lighting is needed, it was difficult to apply make up etc. Food - Delicious, ... You will always get beach chairs but the week we were there we could never get a sun shade.People left their personal belonging out all night to keep them and the resort didn't police this. There are no major complaints about the room we stayed in, only minor ones like there was a little bit of rust in the bath tub, the aircon dripped from time to time and the bedding and pillows smelt damp-though we figured this is from the aircon being left on for long periods of time therefore making everything co... This was our first week of use with Occidental as First Club members. The property and staff were amazing. The room was well kept and nice. By looking around it appeared that our studio apartment was a newly renovated apartment. The staff were very friendly and always happy. There were some small issues with our membership which was no problem of the resort staff itself. We've been at the Occidental Grand Punta Cana about five times already. It's our favorite place to go if we are looking for a relaxing vacation. We stayed in the royal club. Even though the rooms need renovations our stay had always been wonderful. The royal club staff: Hipolito, Samuel, Clemente, Mariano and the rest of the staff make us feel like we were the only guests in the resort. They made all our wishes come true. We recommend this resort 100%

I am writing this review while still in Punta Cana because that is how annoyed I am with this place. We checked in on Saturday with a party of 16. We had 7 rooms with 2 separate reservations. We arrived at 11am I knew we could not check in until 3 which was fine. The entire reservation was a mess they could not comprehend that I had 2 reservations one with 2 rooms and one with 5 rooms. Thought the images were beautiful, they advertise many food options and restaurants, even the reviews looked promising. However.... It was three weeks of sun, sea and sand! (1 July - 22 July ) The stay was exellent, the food was lovely, entertainment was great. I can really say almost nothing was bad. But then nothing is perfect. The first day we were dropped at the wrong room. So we ourselves had to carry our suitcases to the right room after we had settled into our room, we had another problem. My grandmother took a shower. I usually stay at IFA Villas Resort, but unfortunately they were booked that week. If it wasn't for the building#13 section Host CARLOS ELIOUX. and the main Restaurant hostess ANANELY, I would have rated this 1 star . They were the only ones that made our stay worth while. Other staff very rude. Only catering to "European clientele. The site seeing kiosk on the outside were extremely rude. They actually were fighting in front of guests over work.

Not the most expensive or elegant . We have gone back again and again. The beach is beautiful ,staff helpful, food good. Rooms could use and upgrade but are adequate and there is a refrigerator stocked in room. It does have bathrobes slippers and parasol . It is a great place for seniors small but not to small. We are able to walk to beach without it being to long or having to wait for a ride like other places.

Absolutely amazing. Staff are brilliant and very helpful. Entertainment was stunning, we would always look forward to the next night. Food was great, wide variety of choices and always fresh. Wifi is a bit expensive but it extends all the way to the beach. We had an amazing experience and cannot wait to go back Very recommended

The plumbing, linens & furniture in the room needs to be changed/upgraded. Something needs to be done about the smell in the entrance of some blocks. This will make it more welcoming. Check-in should be done faster & made more pleasant. We booked a room with king size bed & was surprised to get a room with two single beds. Even when we reported this, nothing was done. This took away some pleasure from our vacation. The restaurants, food, day & evening entertainments were excellent.

Just finished a 2 week break with my family (2 adults 2 children) and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The staff are great and work tirelessly to ensure a great time. Only downsides were the entertainment in the evening were sometimes disappointing and the reps that invite themselves to breakfast with you to try and sell you an upgrade package (time consuming as well as inconvenient). Other than those issues this place is a great holiday destination!
