i will start off by saying i am a huge fan of trip advisor and think its an amazing way to find out things about places you have never been. first a little about my background with travel. i am from toronto, canada. i am 27 years old i have travelled across canada and some of the US, but this is my second time to the Carribean. first visit was last year june 2015 to veradero cuba to the iberostar laguna azul. which is a beautiful resort as well. this trip (may 27-jun 3) was with my boyfriend, first time both of us have been to the dominican. we always go to a travel agent and give a price range we are comfortable with and always a 4.5-5 star resort choice. then the travel agent works with that, she had mentioned a few all inclusives we could go to. majestic elegance was one of them, i come home i review pictures, videos, the website and of course trip advisor. immediately i noticed it had several reviews and 95% of them were excellent or very good. we had got off the plane it was 5pm, we stopped at two other resorts to drop off other people and then headed to the majestic, this may have taken a total of 20 minutes. when we arrived we were greeted with a drink, a wet towel and our bags were taken. we upgraded with the travel agent while booking to the elegance club- which is the access to more, and adults only section of the resort. we were then taken to a separate room, checked in, they had drinks and food in this room. our butler (elis) came for us and showed us around the resort with two other couples. then we were shown our room. prior to booking, from reading the reviews, we had already mown their was construction right next door (literally) and requested to be away from it. we found out entering our room, that it was facing the construction side, but the other requests were made, not ground floor and one king bed. we spoke to our butler (elis) right away she said it was because it was late at night when we arrived and tomorrow by 12 we would be switched. this was fine, the next day we were switched to room 3214, which is not facing the construction. the room is very nice, double sinks, the toilet seat is a little odd, its rather skinny and squared, lol the shower is nice, hot water works great, flat screen tv, the mattress is comfy, you get 4 bottles of premium brand liquor if you are apart of the upgrade (elegance club), the fridge is stocked daily, with coors light beer, water, and pop, 7up, coke and their verson of orange crush, two chairs and a table, and a jacuzzi. the ac works well, if the door is open it turns off. the only thing i noticed that some people had mentioned on trip advisor, some people take pictures of "mold", although, i did not see any mold, i did noticed the first time walking in the room, and maybe for the first day is a "dampness" i guess you become accustom to it. i really believe it is because its so hot, and then it rains, this dampness creates the bed sheets to feel slightly damp, so right away i pulled my sheets down and untucked them so they would kind of air out with the ac on, this probably also happens because the door has a slight space at the bottom that air can come in from outside. other than this dampness, which you don't really notice past day one, the room is perfectly fine. we ate at the buffet, breakfast my favourite was their crepes, you can put bananas, nutella, peanut butter etc. the bacon is rather fatty, two days i was able to pick better pieces more crispier the way i like my bacon, but lets face it, we rant going to get the best quality meat cuts in the dominican, and we arnt really on vacation to eat extravagantly. they also make omelettes with your choice inside (tomato, ham cheese etc). there are several things to choose from, I'm just a picky eater and try to stick to familiar things. Lunch we mainly ate at sea and sea which is a restaurant outside near the beach, yes there are flies, due to the fact its open to the outside, i just choose to not eat things that were laying out such as the cold salads etc. my favourite for lunch was pizza, hamburgers and hotdogs they make on spot in front of you, fries and nachos. dinner we ate a la carte twice, the italian restaurant and the steak house. italian- my boyfriend is italian and we have both grow up very used to eating italian foods, it is no nonnas pasta thats for sure, but again, we rant expecting that in the DR. i had the minestrone soup, a pasta and dessert, can't complain but i fathered the steak house. i had the cesar salad, perfect to be honest except one slight thing, the lettuce is wet, they don't dry their lettuce enough so the cesar dressing doesn't stick to it nicely and becomes a tad watery, i had the tenderloin which actually was a good cut of meat, and i asked for it well done and it was. this came with fries, dessert we had the walnut brownie and ice cream, was good. buffet dinner is good as well and if you are a big eater is probably better choice, i liked the pasta, the steak pieces, chicken as well, carrots, asparagus, rice. you can also have dinner at the sea and sea. as well as a snack period in-between lunch and dinner. FRANKLIN at the sea and sea is a manager, he was so friendly, and kind and professional and spoke very good english, we enjoyed seeing him daily. when you upgrade to the EC, you have access to air conditioned, rooms with tv, computers, ice cream, snacks, drinks, a butler at a desk and wifi that works well. wifi is free across the resort although, it did not work well in my room (3214) lobby it did, beach pretty well, sea and sea very well. i guess it depends your provider and where you are on the resort. pools, not to warm not to cold, i read on trip advisor some people saying pool tiles were falling from the pool. yes they are, but they are so small you don't really notice them missing, and its really not that many. i don't see this as a problem. something they may want to fix for ascetics yes, but other than that not to important. cabanas are very nice along both the beach and pool another (EC) advantage, and they were not hard to find empty. our butler elis we didn't see very much, but she did run us a bath in our jacuzzi with candles rose petals and a bottle of champagne. we did not order room service so i can't comment on that. beach is beautiful, sand is nice, its clean, no sea weed, no glass or anything like that. water is warm and very nice, you only walk out a few ft and you are already neck level deep. you can take kayaks, and a few other things free if you wish, we didn't. there are people walking up and down the beach trying to sell you stuff, sunglasses, get your hair braided, hennas, cigars, jewellery, we did buy cigars off one person, we also went parasailing, its 80.00 US D for two people, it was solo nice, your in the air for 10 mins, on the boat maybe 20 total, with others who were parasailing as well. we also took pictures with parrots and a little monkey, both were so nice, you can purchase pictures of both which we did. kids come around playing music and dancing its nice to throw them a few pesos or 1-2 dollars US. we tipped our cleaning lady daily with one USD and some goodies from dollarama at home like canada pencils and a hat etc. they are very grateful, they work such long hours and our cleaning lady did a great job. it rained 3 days out of the 7, off and on, the lobby brings a band in and plays music and gets people to dance etc. they have ping pong, a spa, pool tables, shopping huts, a store where you can buy gifts, red bull, chips. gum etc. at night the shows are good, by far the best one is the michael jackson show!, the circus one is good too! they all were appealing but those two were my favourite. the disco, great music, old and very modern music. mix of people, and all the liquor on the resort is premium brand, and they are not stingy when pouring. they also have a sports bar, and a casino. i would recommend this resort to anyone going to DR, the only two things that would have made my trip perfect, was no rain, and the mosquitos! they are horrible, even with deep woods off! i got bitten alive!. the resort didn't unimpressed me at all. the grounds are kept soooooo clean, and well maintained. they are building a majestic mirage right next door which opens dec 2016, that will definitely be just as good if not better than this resort.
