"This hotel gave an excellent vacation experience to me and my girlfriend. We ordered an ocean view room and I noted 'large ocean view please' when I was booking. The result is they put us in the forth floor of section 3, directly face the ocean and pools. Some customers here complained that ocean view became 'tree view', I think that room must be located on the second floor. Order the room upstairs would be very good. Food is good here. There are a lot a lot kinds of meat, fruit, salad, bread and seafood in buffet restaurant and change everyday. Other special restaurants are also recommended. Japanese restaurant is interesting. The fried rice is good there but not the sushi. French restaurant and Mexico restaurant is nice, too. Dominican and Italian restaurants are so so. The worst experience we have ever had was in the seafood restaurant: waitors are quite slow to serve and made us very hungry. Cleanliness for the room and pools are great. The massage pool is funny and makes you confortable, but it does not fully turn on every day. The beach is extraordinary. The massage service, however, is sort of expensive and we did not experience that. Supermarkets inside the hotel are also expensive. If you want to buy some local souvenirs, please walk several minutes outside of the hotel and turn left to Punta blanca, or order a taxi at the customer service disk and they will drive you to shopping malls. Just gave them 1/3 to 1/2 of the original price when you are shopping. When they say $30, you just hold your bottom line $10 to $15. Sometimes $5 or $7 is OK. There are also some things need to be improved and should be noticed by the following customers: English is a problem here. The reception guys, waitors and tourist representatives have average or good English levels, so the basic requirements would be fulfilled. However, don't try to speak English to cleaners to require something about cleaning, they don't understand at all. Also, some bartenders in the lobby bars also lack English skills. Performances and beach games are also mainly in Spanish. Wi-fi is poor. That is a huge disadvantage. The signal coverage range is OK, but the quality is not so good. Neither of my cellphone nor my computer can hold the connection for a long time. We have to struggle with wifi many times until we can finally connect to the internet. The IT guys are not so helpful. basically they only know how to print your random username and password out, or call the net service company and wait. We suffered one day without water in the entire hotel. That was a bad day. We have no water to flush the toilet and take a shower. I had to use bottles of drinking water and went to downstairs and get water from the pool and flush the toilet. They took 24 hours to fix the toilet pipe system and another 12 hours for the shower pipes - kind of slow. There is a casino, but small, and could be boring for someone who likes gambling. Some bad reviews talked about long waiting times during check in and out. I myself have not suffered that, but I did saw long queues and large crowd of people were waiting in the lobby."

"First of all we choose this hotel because it was a good price and the location was perfect. We read reviews prior to purchasing obviously and we were not excited by the bad ones we read but we were encouraged by the good ones and decided to go for it for our Honeymoon.nnWe utilized the VIP shuttle service to get from the airport to the hotel, we booked this through the site as well. It was very easy to manage. We met the representative at the airport and he directed us to the right location and gave us a little information about the Dominican. We went out to the shuttles and were escorted to the right one by a very friendly guy who worked for a different company but just wanted to help out, good thing too because there were a ton of shuttles in the parking lot waiting. We had to wait for another small group of people but it didn't take long and we were off. Our ride to the hotel went well only took about 20 minutes or so.nnMaybe its because we arrived so late but we didn't have any issues with checking in. We walked right up to the desk and were greeted very warmly by a gentleman there who gave us our keys and explained all we needed to know for check in. We were then escorted by another individual up to our room with our bags. The building we were in was a perfect location for everything on the resort. nnWhen we got to our door we were greeted by a sash that said honeymoon which was a very nice touch. First impression of the room, it was clean, open and made me feel like I was in the Dominican! Perfect! We settled in and then proceeded down to one of the lobby bars for a few drinks before bed. There was a decent amount of activity going on down there at that time but it was very late anyway. But we enjoyed a few drinks in the open air area and overlooked the pools and palm trees. The whole resort is an open air theme and it was awesome. You can't walk more than 5 feet without being able to see outside to the pools, beaches, and grounds. It was beautiful.nnIn the morning we woke up to an amazing view. We had an awesome view overlooking one of the pools right out onto the beach. I'm pretty sure almost every room had an ocean view, maybe 5 percent of the hotel didn't but the rest definitely did. It was perfect for us! Also in the light of day our room looked great still. I'm not saying it's a 5 star Hilton or anything but it was clean and everything worked just fine. I'll get to this a little on but it's an older hotel, probably the first built on this beach and although its not granite counters and brand new furniture its pretty and very authentic feeling. nnAs far as the food goes we experienced it all. If you ask my husband he would say the main buffet was one of the best buffets he has ever been to. If you ask me I'd say it was a typical buffet. Each night they try to do a different theme, Mexican/Seafood/Itialian, etc. If you are someone who really likes to experience new things and tastes then yes you may really enjoy the buffet. If your someone like me who is a little more picky and stay to your normal salad/fruit/chicken/eggs/rice/potatoes for example you'll find it to be pretty average. There is a pasta bar every night which was really good, and they are always grilling up something fresh for you, one night it was salmon and it was probably the best I've ever had. And if you like seafood then you will LOVE it. Breakfast was always good down there too, omelet bar/egg station/pancakes/cereal and then a bunch of other things that changed slightly each day but gave you a ton of variety and chances to try new things.nAs far as lunch goes the buffet was OK but we liked either the pizza place or the light lunch menu in the Mexican restaurant. There is also a smaller buffet near the pool for both breakfast and lunch daily. And they grilled up hamburgers, chicken, and hot dogs every day by the pool. nnFor Dinner they have the restaurants and you get so many depending on how long you're staying there. We had the Japanese, Dominican and French restaurants. Our absolute favorite was the Dominican restaurant/it was delicious. The French was very good too and the Japanese was alright, if you like hibachi grilling and food you'll like it, it was a fun change up from the buffet. We've heard that Italian wasn't really worth and have no information on the Mexican restaurant. There are also snacks located at various places throughout the day, if you're up late there is a small buffet in the theater bar, wings/chips/beef etc, late night food.nnAs far as the beaches go they were the best I have seen! Clean, no rocks at all and plenty of lounge chairs for everyone, we never had an issue getting a spot. The service was great too. We never had an issue with anyone. Granted the ones we tipped when above and beyond but they were still all very nice, kind, and energetic. We asked for more bottled water one night pretty late and we had it at our door in 5 minutes. Our room was cleaned daily and sheets changed whenever we wanted. One night we did have cold water and another night it was just hot, but this was at 3 am so I guess that's what you get. nThis hotel is definitely the older one on this beach. The hotels to the right and left are much newer and flashier. We walked around them both a few times and we even went to the club in the Hard Rock next door and enjoyed there casino, if you are going to the Barcelo and are super excited about the casino don't be! Its not much! Although the other hotels were newer and nicer they were much much bigger and your odds of being right on the beach would be much slimmer, and with them I could see walking everywhere as an issue. Overall I think the Barcelo is the better choice, it definitely had the nicest stretch of beach too. One thing the Barcelo could do however would be a pool renovation/they have plaster bottom pools which are starting to show their age, the tiled pools of the Hard Rock and other hotels do look much sharper.nOther things/nWorkout room-GoodnSports Bar area with pool and ping pong and drinks-GoodnOur VIP agent to plan excursions-Goodn Internet-OK its not included but you can buy a few hours for a decent price and use it here and there when you need it.nnOverall this was a great experience and we would recommend it to others. Odds of us returning are slim only because we want to explore other islands and areas but if we ever did return to that area of the Dominican we'd stay there again. nn"

"For the price that we paid, this was a nice weekend getaway. We live in Santo Domingo and have been to many resorts in Punta Cana. This was not the best, the food wasn't great, but for the price that we paid (cheap) this was a nice weekend get-a -way. Positives ~ the staff was friendly and fun to talk to in Spanish. The drinks were good and plentiful. Negatives ~ checkout was horrible. The line was huge! Poor ventilation in the public areas. It was so hot in the dining area and front lobby!"

"I loved the resort except the buffet. the fried food was over cooked, the plan meals were the same and steak hard, the buffet was open with flys flying around, here should be a mesh around eating area. there was not enough to do around the hotel at night. the lodge area should have had spanish music playing. there should be a night club for adults only with salsa and merengue playing so couples could have danced. the rooms need updating, some had leaks, doors locks looked tampered with. I love the place would like to see improvements so that I can continue to go. the drinks by the pool were hot and poorly made. OverAll, I love the resort, its beautiful and little things can be fixed. IT WAS GREAT!"
