"My family and I spent a week at the resort April 13 to 20. The resort was clean and the staff was friendly but during our stay there was construction right over the pool everyday - saws, hammers and sanders. The food was blah. The dishes seemed to be left over from the meal before. Wi-Fi is only available within 50 feet of the reception desk and the services drops your connection every few minutes. Not a fabulous vacation that I would recommend."

"I just came back from my trip to the DR, The hotel was located in the best part of playa dorada, the resort is big but not to the point where you have to walk great amount to get everywhere. The food was ok (good variety but nothing impressive) the front desk manager was less than pleasant , he has a serious attitude that made me rate my experience there as poor. I had book for 3 persons and one of them couldn' made it at the last minute the guy was super nasty and instead of sayinb comforting things was like theres nothing we can do for you, you lost all the money you paid for this person. When I asked if at least we could receive the late checkout been that they already got paid for the third person and the late checkout was an extra $50 us he said that theres nothing he could do for me. This guy was so unhelpful that I went on an excursion and had a large dominican peso bill and wanted some change so that I an tip the person who drove us back to the resort the answer from this man was I GOT NO CHANGE in a very upset and loud voice. No one deserves to be treated this way. It is extremely disrespectful."

"We had a great time @ VH Gran Ventana... Overall the resort is great! The only complaint is they need new beds. The food in the restaurants were very good. The buffet could be better. The best part of the resort is the beach... it is spacious with plenty of chairs, shade or sunny spots. The snorkeling is awesome at the resort! Very easy check in/out, friendly staff. Husband walked to golf course & enjoyed the course. We would go back."

"Overall I thought the resort was nice. The rooms were clean and large (we upgraded to the bigger room) and everything worked properly (AC, hot water) our entire stay. The food was decent and the drinks were okay. Nothing to complain about, nothing to brag about. The shows at night were entertaining, especially the Michael Jackson tribute. The resort was less than half full while we were there (11/20-26) so it wasn't operating at 100%. One whole section (that houses the 'quiet' pool) wasn't even open. There were no locals on the weekend we were there (I read in many reviews that they take over on the weekends). The weather was very cloudy almost our entire stay so that might have had something to do with their absence. Only 2 of the restaurants were open (Octopus was excellent, Ocean Grill was just okay) but the buffet was fine for us for dinner. They did a good job of changing it up so you didn't feel like you were eating the same thing. The beach is beautiful, the huts are spread apart so you aren't sitting on top of each other and there was never a problem finding a spot. The vendors on the beach are annoying (almost unbearable) but after you give them a firm 'no' they will eventually leave you alone. We did book an excursion and had a great time. It was a Dominican Duck Tour and I highly recommend it. It was a great chance to see many sites and a fun day. We also booked an excursion at the office in the resort and were very disappointed. We went to Ocean World which in my opinion is a lousy impersonation of Sea World and not worth the money. The driver was very late picking us up at the lobby and the food they provide for lunch was terrible. The shows were good but mostly spoken in Spanish. My biggest complaint about the resort was we travelled with my parents (who are in their 80s) and had requested that our rooms be near each other. We were put in the same building but at complete opposite ends. Even though the hotel was over 50% vacant they couldn't seem to accommodate that request which I thought was a little ridiculous. Other than that I do agree that the staff go out of their way to make sure you are having a good time. Our room was on the second floor facing the pool and it did get noisy at night from the show which usually lasted until 10:30 or so. It didn't bother us but I could see how it could some people. There isn't a whole lot going on at the resort so if you are looking for a party atmosphere this isn't the place. This was an inexpensive trip so I do think it was worth the money and would recommend to anyone who is looking to get away and relax for a few days and not spend a fortune."

"The hotel rooms were clean, but not much to do. Only issue cats walking around in the buffet area, not sanitary. There's no entertainment and the food is not good. I have been to many resorts in Punta Cana and LOVE them all. This is my first time in Puerto Plata and I was very dissapointed. Do not waste your time or money. If you are looking for a place for peace and quite this is the place. It is more like a hotel than a resort because there is nothig to do while there."
