"How can this place still be in business ?? So I get in with my family after a long ride from the Airport to find this four star 'All-Inclusive' resort without any water. When I
call the front desk to see what's going I'm being told that the resort is booked to capacity and that there's nothing to be done but to wait on it . The food was so bad
we ate nothing but bread and bottled water . What really threw me off was , having
the cleaning staff ask us for something to eat because they where not allowed to
take breaks on there shift . I felt like this was all a nightmare , I couldn't believe
what I was seeing . It discusses me to even keep writing about this horrifying experience that my family and I went threw .

"The staff were certainly friendly enough, the front desk Manager did everything he could to accomodate us with a better room. We paid for an Ocean View and got one, but it was also a far walk to everything. My husband has bad knees and couldn't walk for long. Louise changed our room to poolside which was a 2 minute walk to everything. The alcohol was definitely watered down. I could drink their specialitiy drinks all day long and not even feel the least bit buzzed. I'm a very picky eater - I don't do veggies or beans but I ate three meals a day. How can you go wrong with eggs in the morning, pasta in the afternoon and a salad at nite? Stay away from the steakhouse or the italian restaurant where you have to make reservations for. The rib eye steak was thinner than a common slice of cold cut meat. The lamb chops were greasy and very fatty. The beach is nice, but the red flag was up everyday indicating rip tide. I couldn't wait to get into the ocean and when I did, I didn't go far from shore and I felt like the tide was taking me away. Definitely wear water shoes, the rocks at the beach are bad. We stayed for 10 days. The entertainment at nite was lousy. Ocean World was great, we hugged and kissed the dolphins on the dolphin encounter, definitely entertaining. The casino at the Riu Bachata had a lot to be desired and was empty most nites - don't waste your money - they will screw you. The slot machines (maybe 12 or 13) were from the 1980's and you won't win anything, maybe a few more plays but nothing significant. DO NOT LEAVE THE RESORT. If you do, you will be hounded by the local people trying to sell you stuff. I mean they have kids coming up to you saying they are hungry........makes you want to give to them, but the kid we saw was dressed in jeans and a tee shirt and riding a bike, but saying he was hungry, he didn't look hungry to me. we took a taxi tour which took us to the middle of the city and yes it is depressig to see the shanty little houses they live in, I actually cried and wanted to jon the Peace Corps to help these people. But the resort itself...........two pools, nice but you definitely have to get up early in the mornning to put your towels on chairs to reserve them. All in all, it was nice........would I go back ...........no."

"This resort has great service and wonderful staff. We had a lovely, clean room overlooking the water. Some things to know: if you are exchanging money, do it at the hotel rather than the airport. You will get a much better rate. There is a $10 fee for each person to enter the country. At the hotel, you cannot drink the tap water, so be sure to use their bottled water for brushing teeth. Also, there are no irons or coffee makers in the rooms. You can get an iron at the front desk. I found I didn't need it as the humidity made the wrinkles fall out. The hotel has free wii-fi in the lobby, but can only handle a few users at a time and sometimes it's down for the day. i loved the vacation from technology. One day the beach was very crowded as a tour group spent the day there. We went to the private beach on the west side of the resort. The food is okay, but I'm not a foodie, so it didn't matter to me. I loved getting massages in the cabanas on the beach. It truly is paradise!"

"Just came back from vacation I was there with friends from August 20th to August 26th and at first site we were pleased However as time went by it got worse... Toilets were not working on the second day we called a few times to the front desk for repairs they finally came on the 4th call my friend slipped and fell in the mean time! We had issues with the maid service cleaning our rooms after being out all day we come into a dirty room twice and after almost fighting with the maids they finally cleaned it. Service @ the hotel was not the best to say the least! they were friendly at first almost TOO friendly but as our stay was coming to an end and with having issues with our flight plans due to hurricane Isaac they were not accommodating at all. We asked about an extra couple night's stay @ the rate we paid initially and they wanted to charge us extra money after we spent so much already they also didn't want to help us beyond after knowing our current situation!
Despite of the hang ups the beach was gorgeous the breeze was beautiful and the drinks were to die for... The food NOT TO MUCH Same thing every night gets tiresome... Great Please if you have kids but not so much if you don't have kids or trying to catch a break from your own! Needless to say the reviews that we read prior to going there to Riu Bachata were SPOT ON!!!

"This resort was great! It was clean, the staff was friendly, the food was good although a lot of the same day after day, the rooms do need an upgrade especially the mattress'. The ocean was great, the sand did have some stones and stuff but was doable without water shoes.
One thing I would have like to know was, you have a 'welcome' tax of 10$ per person when you land in the Dominican.
The electrical plugs at the resort, you either need an adapter or extension cord. My 8 year old loved it, she spent most of her time in the pool.
I would not return during the weekend it's as if the Dominicans all go there. There were almost no where to sit for dinner, the pool was rowdy and the animators for the shows at night barely spoke anything but Spanish.
All in all it was a great vacation and I would go back but do a Sunday to Friday instead."

"This trip was the best ever!!! I traveled with my 2 girlfriends, we are in our late 20's and early 30's. We never waited for drinks, the grounds were beautifully maintained, the swim-up bar was a blast, overall, we had the time of our lives. For those who hated the food, it wasn't bad, it was actually better than I had first imagined. There were certainly enough choices to suit everyone. Sure, the rooms need a little bit of updating, the beds are deflinitely hard, but since we were only there to sleep, it worked out ok. The beach was ok, not bad for not being on the Caribbean Sea side. If you are questioning whether or not to book here, and you are looking for a great time with fantastic staff and guests, than this is the resort for you. Make sure to try out the discoteche and the 'Mamajuana!' It's a native drink and it was delicious!!"

"We had a great experience there. Everything was great from the food, the people, the entertainment..etc....Was a little disappointed with the rooms because i was given two separate rooms with no connection to each other and had to leave my three children by themselves in one of them. But it was ok beacuse they were right next to each other. We are planning to go again next year."

"I would tell people to ignore the negative reviews written. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and quanity of food and drinks. We had no problems finding things to do, if anything we didn't have enough time to do all the activities planned. The salmon at the Italian restaurant was probably the best we've ever eaten. The people were probably some of the friendliest people we have ever met on our travels. The rooms were very nice and exceptionally clean. The dune buggy ride was something we will always remember. Our guides were great on all of our excursions. I would go back in a minute!"

"My husband and I had a wonderful stay in Puerto Plata, DO. The resort was beautiful and very clean. I would go back in a minute! The beaches and snorkeling were fantastic. I really have no complaints. The food in our opinion was better that expected with a large variety of items to choose from Staff was wonderful, alcohol plentiful. I did have concerns prior to our trip from reading the negative reviews but in our experience we did not find them true, Our stay was great !"

"Just returned from a 5 day stay here. It was lovely. The food was better than most all-inclusives I've been to in the past. The thing that most detracts from the dining is the guests. This place was heavy on European visitors that apparently do not know how to form or wait in a line. Instead they jump right in tront of you or reach right past you as if you do not exist. They also parade around the pool in suits that are inappropriate for their obese frames. There are also issues with people saving pool chairs then not coming to the pool all day. You can either surrender and join the chair saving, or hit the beach where there are plenty of chairs. The staff was wonderful, the bar tenders were great, and the place was absolutely breathtaking. It was, by far, the most beautiful scenery I've seen in the Caribbean. The rooms were nice and fairly quiet. I love the liquor dispenser and beer in the room! Overall, this is a wonderful place that would be perfect if it weren't for the other patrons with zero manners. Even as annoying as they were, I'd return."

"Bring your own wash cloths - they do not supply them. Air conditions do not work properly in most rooms. Most staff do not speak English. Show at night were very bad. They have bad sand fleas - I was bitten alive the first day - do not return to the beach. Food was good. Italian restaurant does not serve Italian food. Steak house food was good. Lunch at Steak House was good. Not organized at all - need someone in there to organize their staff inside and outside. Water is very rough - watch for the flags - watch for the undertow. Went with a group of 37 and everything was screwed up with the reservations. We went for a wedding - was a very nice wedding on the beach - this was well organized. Overall we had a good time with the family - but could have been better - much better."

"The overall experience of DR was great. The hotel has beautiful views, the rooms are cleaned daily with fresh flowers given on your bed and your bathroom, the hotel staff was responsive and very very kind. The bartenders were also at your command making any drink you asked them to.
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE FOOD DID NOT COME COLSE TO A 5 STAR HOTEL.
I left jersey to find and taste something new instead for lunch there were hot dogs, ham burgers, french fries and pizza. COME ON!!! The buffet did not change at all for the 7 days i was there. There was only one cooking station that had a different type of meat which was always overcooked and dry. They had no kind of seafood selection whatsoever. By the third day i had enough of the food i didnt even want to look at it because i knew what was there already.
The only thing i can say is thank the people who built restaurtants so colse to the hotel maybe 10 mintues walking which served the so much better food than the hotel. If it wasn;t for the fresh and cultural food that the restauants had i dont know what i would of done.
Final note its worth to go to DR but would not recommend Bachata as a hotel unless you like typical american food.. Everyday...."
