The family and I went here for about a week in May 2016. The grounds are beautiful, the beach is amazing, and the food is fantastic! The rooms are clean and comfortable. The beds and pillows are great. The staff is friendly. Rosalinda at the front desk is VERY helpful. She was able to help us with any issue or question we had. We had an issue with our rooms when checking in. We were supposed to have a specific room reserved for us as returning guests, yet the room was given away by anoth... Read more

There is a reason for the low rates for this resort. The grounds staff go out very early in the morning to clean up the beach from all of the garbage & sewage that washes up on the beach from the nearby Rio San Juan river. There are several nice pools which are nice but the beach is not enjoyed by the guests much. The wifi works but often goes down and is slow. The all inclusive buffet and drinks are par for the country. The hotel staff tell you they understand when you speak to them in E... Read more

We stayed at the resort from MAY 2016. Resort was nice, staff were amazing. (too many managers to the ratio of staff) Pools were great, beach was picture perfect. Food was okay. This was the first time the resort was open in the slow season so there were only about 300 guests. Half of the buffet was closed so the food was reused into other dishes from one meal into another to create variety. ( I don't mind it as long as it's done carefully and i believe it was) Room was BASIC two double b... Read more

My wife and I just arrived back from the Bahia Principe San Juan May 14 -21 2016, room 2235. It was our 2nd time. The last time we visited the resort was about 8 years ago. Thank-you again for the bottle of Brugal Rum and T-shirt which was in our room. Spent a week with my daughter and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The weather was amazing, sun was hot, pool refreshing and the AC cold. The food was good and there were was a lot of variety. As others have noted there are sand fleas and other bugs but don't let this deter you, just be prepared as some seem to be bothered more than others. Plenty of activities and you do as little or as much as you want and we went to relax.

We stayed at this resort from apr. 3-11, after reading some reviews we did have some concerns. This is a great resort as long as you have reasonable expectations, if you can book for anywhere under 1200$ in Eastern Canada it is worth the trip. Rooms are dated but very clean, as is the resort as a whole. Beach was great, lots of chairs and not overcrowded due to it's size. Beach does not have white powdery sand but is still very nice, sand fleas were not a problem for us. The food was great, lot... Read more

Went from May 26 - June 2. My real rating is more of a 3.5 Let me get the bad out of the way first. We got assaulted by sand fleas. Like really really bad. My feet were completely covered in bites and my legs weren't much better. So because of that we spent most our days by the pool instead of the beach and even avoiding playing beach volleyball which I love. Another problem is that it seemed like very few staff spoke English. I don't expect them all to be perfectly fluent but when your waitre... Read more

Huge property, nice, clean, well taken care of...BUT too far away from excursions, food is ok not great but you get what you pay for being an all-inclusive resort. Beach was good, sand is not "white" but no biggie! Water clear AND VERY choppy for boats. Property has great little street with shops, bar, disco and casino...unfortunately majority are empty store fronts. Very nice people work there and they work very hard too...they love those tips. We went here in January 2016. While the weather was so-so (it rained half the week - which is no fault of the resort), we had a longer time to actually do things at the resort (as opposed to staying at the beach away from everything). First off, the beaches were O.K. The sun faced away from the beach so to get a tan you have to position your chair away from the water. Which is good - because the water is murky. It's the type of murky that when you're there you tell yourself it's not that bad, a... Read more

Myself and a group of friends stayed at the resort for 2 weeks from end of May to start of June. We had an excellent time. The resort is in the north of the island and only an hour from Puerta Plata airport (much better transfer time than those going to Semana etc.) The main highlights were in no particular order: - the reception staff, especially Michel, who was incredibly friendly and helpful - Ignacio, Elizabeth, Cappucino and the entire animation team! We visited this resort in January 2016 that we purchased through Westjet Vacations. We came with expectations of a 4* resort and upon exiting the bus, we were very disappointed. The customer service was poor, there were staff yelling at vacationers just to get their attention before they had even registered to get the key to room etc. We had requested a king room, ocean view in a quiet area. We spent the week of June 6 here. The hotel is very remote, clean, but definitely needs a face lift. We had an oceanfront room, with a lovely quiet pool just steps away. The food in the buffet restaurant was quite acceptable, however wasn't too impressed with their specialty restaurants, certainly not on a par with other Grand Bahia's. Don't leave anything on the rail outside on your patio, it will get stolen. Pick a unit as close as possible to the main buildings. Take water precautions, new bottled water to brush teeth etc... Beware the flies at the beach. Definitely dated and worn out, desperately requires renos. The food was o.k. The drinks were generous. Bring tipping cash and tip well.

Let's start with the positives: 1. Friendly staff - all the staff were incredibly friendly and nice 2. Could alway find a nice relaxing sun bed on the beach or around the pool 3. The food is nice and tasty and the restaurants you book are great - if not a little repetitive 4. Drinks are plentiful are good measures 5. The sea is a lovely colour and warm 6. The rooms were nice and large and cleaned daily by very nice staff 7. Great room service (I wouldn't normally use this but I got badly sun b... Read more

I cannot stay enough about how wonderful the staff was, from the front desk to the cleaning staff. Everyone was so friendly and warm, if for nothing else we could come for that. Our room was very close to La Brisa and a short distance to the main pool. Location was excellent a bit small for 3 adults but no one spends alot of time in the room. Snack bar for those in between snacks was kind of a hike but not crazy. The beach was calm, warm and perfect. All in all i would definitely go back, e... Read more

Beautiful place, I must thank a few people there Eddy, Miguel, Rapheal they made our stay wonderful. This Hotel needs some love. Day trip was amazing horse back riding ... sorry don't remember the name of it. Our biggest disappoint with this hotel is have the local people in on Friday to Sunday... they are rude the pool bar you cannot get a drink at all, you have to go around to get a drink... at the buffet they don't know how to form a line.... always butt in line ... SORRY

This is my 5th time visiting a Bahia Principe property and first time at GBP San Juan as a Bahia Principe Privilege Club (BPPC) member. In fact, I am still here (last day) and wanted to say that, while there are minor service issues that Bahia and BPPC still need to work out, overall the trip was AMAZING! The Blue Flag beach is pristine, buffet food selection was good and a la carte restaurants (except Italian, but that's a personal choice) were surprisingly very good!! Staff is super friendly... Excellent resort with great service, staff, room was comfortable, pool is very good and the beach is not punta cana but it is reasonable. We spent almost every day at the pool. Entertainment is not as good as resorts I've been to. Food was good, not excellent. Wine not great (red wine drinker so found it hard to find good wine). what I really like about this resort is after dinner we would go out the front door and be at a great bar that had amazing music and fun party everytime. The resort emp... Read more

Had a great time at the Bahia San Juan. We arrived just after Mathew however the place was undisturbed. It was nice to see the birthday wishes in our room upon arrival. The hotel had a fruit basket as well as a sign on our door, The food was great and the entertainment staff were so much fun. Dianna from the mini club was so much fun and Juan danced with my elderly mother and made her feel young again. Soriani, and Mayelin also from the entertainment side, treated us great too. All the staff were... Read more

This hotel offers everything you need for a relaxing 2 week stay. The food is amazing - so much choice. The restaurants (that you can book for those special nights) are super. Italian needs work. Japanese was the best. not many english, whihc was nice, loads of Canadians as its only a hop for them. I wouldnt reccommend the excursions as such, but the beach and the swimming pools are lovely. Go here to purely relax. You will have a good time! My now fiance propsed to me on our 4th night there. t... Read more

We were there off season so some of the resort was not open but there was more to do than we could do. The smaller crowd was worth the trade off. The resort was the best combination of the best of a resort. We are planning to go again and I even added a day to the end of the week for our family. The price was incredible. The kids staff were always finding things for the kids, the boat tour was great. Some mosquitoes bring repellent, not bad though and lots of sun guard. My wife bought some antac... Read more
