"We just visited the resort Nov 4-10 and we will be going back- incredible vacation! nnFirst I want to say I did a ton of research before booking this resort. Choosing a resort for Punta Cana or the nearby areas is confusing because there are so many well rated resorts to choose from. I will try to break this review down for you in simple terms to help.nnBe prepare to pay $10 per person for a tourist card when entering the country. Also when leaving the country do not pack any tweezers, nail clippers, razors or scissors in your carry on- they will confiscate them at security- put them in a checked bag or don't take them.nnVACATION CHANGING HINT: Tip your staff, your maid, your waiters and your bartenders. You just need to give a dollar or two and they are so very grateful. They will remember you and treat you well. I read this on another persons review and it was by far the best advise we got. We took $100 in ones and fives and we tipped people providing us with good friendly service and the level of service increased dramatically. The staff clearly loves what they do and they are a real team. They are always smiling and happy. Iberostar really has every system on all levels well executed and it shows. Key people we came to really enjoy were the Entertainment staff, the Beach Bar bartenders at the towel bar, at the Front desk was fantastic, and in the buffet restaurant gets 10 stars from us (wow He helped to make our trip fantastic!) If you can sit in the same section each morning and get to know your staff it helps- the service just gets better and better- tip and show your gratitude and the service will come back to you in spadesl!nnWe chose to stay in Bayahibe near laRomana because we wanted a more quiet vacation and Punta Cana is very commercial and have a lot more people coming and going, so we opted to take a 40 minute bus ride from Punta Cana to this Iberostar resort and we are so glad we made this choice.nnResort- absolutely beautiful, extremely well maintained, clean and very little bugs. The resort layout is very well planned- huge courtyard between buildings, lots of wild life freely living in the resort, pink flamingos, peacocks, swans, ducks, birds of all sorts- just spectacular! The grounds are absolutely beautiful- the resort photos do not lie- it really is that beautiful. nnRooms-Wifi is available in your room for a very reasonable rate. we paid $35 for a week to have it in our room (otherwise wifi is free in the lobby). Rooms have a mini frig (restocked every other day) safe, blow dryer, iron and ironing board, shampoo and body wash, mini sewing kit and shower cap. I recommend a 2nd or 3rd floor room- there are no elevators so keep this in mind but the views are better and there's more privacy. If you can get a corner room you love the wrap around balcony. Only building I would not want to stay in is building #1 because it is right next to the Theater and it could be noisy. All the buildings are beautiful and are essentially the same. The rooms are the only area I think Iberostar needs to make improvements in. The rooms are very nice, but I do think the furniture needs to be updated. Don't get me wrong- they look nice but you can tell there have been a lot of people in these rooms. We had a King bed and the mattress was nice and firm- perfect for us. I do think the cleaning staff for the rooms needs to dust the doors and the ledges of the furniture a little bit better but this is just minor in the grand scheme of the entire vacation. Yes we could have chosen to focus on the negative, but we didn't- we wanted to enjoy ourselves so we let the little things slide, like a little dust here and there in the room.nnRestaurants- Water is safe to drink in all restaurants and buffets, but do not drink tap water from room- water bottles are provided in mini frig. We ate at all 4 restaurants. Steakhouse- very very good- surprising to me, I didn't expect the dinner to be as good as it was. Order the Tenderloin- it's the best cut of beef and it melted in our mouths. Also the steakhouse has a cappuccino machine- so get a cappuccino. The only other place you can get a cappuccino is at the piano bar near the lobby. Japanese- fun fun fun and very good- super filling. nEl Colonial- this is the Gourmet Seafood restaurant and it was delicious. We really enjoyed the grilled lobster tail and mushroom risotto! But by far the best restaurant was the Mexican- surprising to me, but the chef is from mexico and it was so fantastic! We got the Taco kabobs with bacon and they were delicious- hubby ordered a second round of tacos! The shrimp service was also outstanding! So your first day at the resort make sure you go and make reservations for the restaurants, they were all very good and a great experience. nnBuffet Restaurant- main buffet has a lot to offer. The food is pretty good. In the morning they make omelets and eggs to order but you'll have to wait a few minutes for this but it's worth it. Make sure you try the banana smoothies- omg they are delicious. they had a lot of other smoothies too like mango, papaya etc. Lunch buffet we ate at the Steakhouse by the beach which is a buffet during the day- it was also pretty good. Dinner Buffet at the main Buffet (same place you go to breakfast at -near the lobby) is good with a lot of choices. I would rate the food a 7-8 out of 10 at the buffets. One surprise for me were the desserts- I've been on cruise ships before and the desserts look so good but then taste so bland, that's not the case here- the desserts at this resort are really good, so be careful, you'll find you get addicted to the chocolate mousse and the strawberry mousse, so light and creamy and packed full of flavor- I was impressed. The coffee is quite good too.nnEntertainment at night- we didn't go to any of the shows so I can't comment on this aspect.nnVendors: On Friday the resort allows the vendors to come in. This is the only day there are people asking you to look at their tables.nnBeach: The beach is beautiful and there are tons of chaises but if you want a hut for shade you'll need to get up early to save your chaises under the hut. For us in rained each day while we were on the beach- most days just light light rain, one day it down poured for about 15 mins. We were lucky to have a hut that protected our stuff and us from the rain. If it rains though- it was only for a fe minutes.Take sunscreen- you will need it! Also there are fun beach games each day around 10-12:30 so there tend to be a lot fo people at the beach in the morning and then by 12:30 or so- the beach clears out until about 3pm. We stayed at the beach from 10-5 almost everyday and had blast! They have water aerobics, rifle shooting, archery, beach games and sand volleyball- so much to do , or do nothing at all. nnKids: we did see quite a few families with kids and they seemed very happy. They have a kids club but I am not sure about all the activities they offered the kids.nnArrival Day- Yes it makes a difference what day you arrive!!! We arrived on a Monday which worked best for our schedule but turned out to be a very good day to arrive. If you can avoid arriving on Fri or Sat- they are the busiest days for arrivals. We did notice the weekend had a lot more people on the property so plan accordingly.nnI read that the resort caters to europeans- not true! Most everyone speaks a little english, enough for you to communicate with. But do yourself a favor learn 20-30 common used nouns in spanish and it will help. I tried to learn as much as I could and I tried to talk in spanish and the locals loved it and were very kind and helpful. Yes there are a lot of europeans at the resort but this is not a bad thing. We noticed just a few of them were a bit rude when at the buffet and invaded your personal space or were just clueless to common sense, but all and all they too were friendly. On the weekend I noticed a lot more americans arrived and frankly it was a little embarrassing, here's why; all week long in the night time hours the resort was very peaceful and quiet, but then on Friday and Sat, just briefly, I heard yelling and slamming of the room doors and sure enough - they were americans. It didn't last long but it was just an observation based on other guest reviews about the europeans.nnAll in all we had a absolutely fantastic vacation and we will be going back! I hope this review helps you make a good choice for you. We loved this resort. On our first day we had thought it was roughly a 3.5 star resort but by the end of our stay we both agreed due to the food, the staff and their high level of service, the well maintained property and the beauty of this resort it truly is a solid 5 star resort!nnStayed November 2014"

"This was an incredible vacation. There are Europeans, and very few Americans, but the staff usually speaks five languges. Henry, superviser front desk (3PM to 11 PM), is the go-to guy. He can make anything happen. My husband had an uncomfortble artifical leg, and the hotel profided a wheelchair for our two weeks. If you need a wheelchair, make it part of your reservation. The grounds were so beautiful with ponds , water features, and flaminos and peacocks. We were in block 4, and found it perfect for beach access, and close to the 12pm to 4pm buffet. Every worker smiles, and greets you. The entertainment staff is crazy fun and working everywhere. We didn't do excursions in our two weeks, but loved the beach pallapas, and just being. It was beyond amazing."

"This is a big 5* resort. We loved it. We requestd a wheel chair, and had one for our whole two weeks. The staff is awsome, especially Henry, the man, at the front desk. We had an up grade to Jr. suite for five days, and then a first floor beautiful view room for the rest of our two week vacation. It is very European, with minimal English, except for the entertainment and front desk staff. There was lots to do, or just go to the beach. Pallapas were abundant, and shade by the pools(4). The food is every catagory you may choose, and abundant. Two sites are open for buffet to accomodate your time schedule. The Colonial had LOBSTER TAIL, shrimp cocktail, and cream puffs with chocolate dipping sauce!! We loved this resort, and plan to return."
