In all of my vacations to the Dominican Republic I've always stayed at Punta Cana. This year I wanted to go somewhere different and chose to stay Gran Bahia Principe. This was a mistake
Upon my arrival with my family of 7 I encountered a hit and run accident involving a rental car and a tour bus. The tour bus hit the rental car that was parked at the entrance of the hotel and continued to drive away.
The guest and owner of the car had stepped away to find a bell hop and was hit during his search of hotel personnel.
As I witnessed this I realized that there were no greeters or bell hop.
Apparently the hotel only has one bell hop working on Wednesdays, and a total of two bell hop on staff.
I had rented a car and now was nervous about the safety of the vehicle. I also had to check in all my bags in to the rooms since the wait for a bell hop was for an hour.
The most important thing about an all inclusive stay hotel is the food and entertainment. What a disappointment is was to find out that this hotel had neither.
The food was tasteless. It looked good but tasted horrible. My 1yr old daugher and sister in law left with food poisoning.
Entertainment at the hotel was mediocre and amateur. My six year old son had no entertainment targeted to children.
The beach is not blue but a murky brown. It's a man made beach so you feel the cement through the sand. Placing more sand would fix this problem. The children's sand toys where all broken.
The room has major issues.
The bed is hard, the pillows are uncomfortable. The bathroom design makes it that when you take a shower the floor gets completely wet. I spent my time drying the floor to avoid anyone from slipping.
Room service took an hour to arrive to only bring the wrong food. Specific request where ignored. The grill cheese sandwich was cold and not grilled.
The staff could not explain to any guest how the wi-fi connection worked. We finally figured it out after 2 days.
Employees are expected to work extremely long hours with out pay. I felt I was back during slavery. It's really a sad thing to see.
Overall I would never return or recommend this hotel to anyone!"

"Just got back from Grand Bahia Principe La Romana, wonderful holiday, Resort was outstanding, food very good, all of the staff were excellent, Very Very clean resort, the beaches where cleaned constantly, Just one little hiccup, when they give you your Keys to your room they should tell you that one of the keys turns on the electricity to your room, so in fact you only have one room key, no big deal, we go on holiday all stressed out and want everything done right away, by your second day you are sitting back and relaxing. Will definaitly go back and will highly recommend it to friends. THANKS TO ALL THE STAFF"

"Rooms were ok. we had a room on the first floor by the pool which was convienent but our cleaning lady kept throwing things away so make sure to put things up safe. staff could have been more friendly and accommadating but maybe a cultural language issue. Place was pretty nice and the Buffet had good choices and fresh. We went to two of the restaurants and liked the Italian but mad poor selection on what to eat at the seafood place so don't get the steak or seafood lasagna. We took the excursion to Saona island which great so I would recommend that. Also, we rented the jet ski at the beach for 30 min and had a blast! Overall I would recommend for the price but we will not return because we want to see more of the Caribbean. There is a casino but don't think hardrock or Vegas style. Very small but we still played the slots and blackjack and had some fun."

"We upgraded upon booking but received a room that was less than expected. The room was on the ground floor very old and dingy and smelled very musty. We asked to change rooms and they were accommodating and gave us a 2nd floor room, that I must say was much better. There was no wifi available throughout our stay in the rooms, but was available in the lobby. I noticed right behind our building a very nice brand new building with a club house and seperate restaurant. I went over to inquiry and discovered that for $10 more/person/night we could stay in a luxury room with jacuzzi tub, flat screen tv and eat at the seperate restaurant for breakfast and lunch. We immediatley upgraded and were treated like kings and queens, it was the best $40 we ever spent. The beach was very nice except it was infested with sand fleas and there was wasps everywhere. Also there was crabs running all over this beach. What a shame, it is so beautiful and we would have returned in a minute except my husband and I were covered in bites, even after spraying our legs and arms continuously with Off. I am not sure what is causing this problem here, we have stayed at many beach resorts over the years and I have never seen anything like this before. We seen lots of other guests with bites all over them to. We did notice them spraying the beach, but it did not appear to be working."

"The Gran Bahia location is great if you want peace and quiet and to just get away. The buffet food is one of the better ones I have been to. The three Restuarants on the property are ok. They have recently open a new building and the rooms are great. This resort is growing, in about two more years it will grow from 480 rooms to over 700. The property also offer real estate for sale and one does not need to listen to a sales pitch. Overall I got what I wanted , peace and quiet and recharge my soul. Please bring insect repellent for late in the evenings."

"Me and my husband stayed at Gran Bahia La Romana for 4 nights.
The hotel was not 5 star, but I think it was OK for the price we've paid. Grounds are beautiful, rooms are clean, but nothing fancy. Service was OK, but do not expect too much. People there are pretty relaxed and not in a hurry to help you out.
We saw a lot of negative notes about food and were worried about it. However we liked the food. Good selection and pretty tasty, so no complains about it.
We were not interested in entertainment, it's mostly Caribbean music and dancing. It would be nice to have something more European-oriented.
There is not a lot to do at the hotel from my perspective. The beach is nice, but the water isn't clear as in other areas. But it's still ok to swim there. We don't care about pulls, but if you do you'll be pleased to find nice ones in this resort.
Overall it was nice vacation, but don't expect too much."

"My Boyfriend and I just got back, and I dont know where to start. The grounds were beautiful and well kept, but the food was horrible!!! The non motorized water sports were not available, the water on the beach was this murky green color. Went to the gym and it only had one treadmill and these outdated cycles. Our bed was like sleeping on bricks and we both got bitten in several spots by something, not sure if it was bed bugs or mosquitos!!!! The only thing great about this trip was the excursion to Saona Island, beautiful beach, beautiful water, a great time!!!! I definately won't be returning and I dont recommend it!!!"

"I was very disappointed in my trip and i must say that was a very bad 1st experience out the country. The staff was very cheerful and pleasant but the food was AWFUL!! I actually lost more weight on vacation than i did before my trip. The place was beautiful overall but it definately had its flaws because our rooom smelled like wet clothes were stuck in our vents or something n they were very wishy washy about whats included in an 'all inclusive' package which i didnt like. Don't want to seem as though im bashing the place but they need to take that 5 star rating down a notch because me and my sister had an pretty much horrid experience.......and whats with the hagglers on the beach that try n force you to buy all their merchandise? Okay im done!!"

"This was my first trip to the Dominican Republic and my sisters and I were extremely underwhelmed. The food was not very good and the resort kept loosing power, which shut off water and power supplies for the entire resort. I counted at one point 5 outages in one day. The beach water was brown and gross, not something you would expect from somewhere in the Caribbean. The resort grounds are beautiful and the staffers were very nice but I definitely was expecting more."

"There were many good things about this resort, but I have to say that it is not a 5-star resort. Not all the drinks were included. The gym was old, outdated and not well kept. The room had it's flaws: closet doors did not shot properly, there was a piece of the ceiling in the bathroom that kept falling, the room needed a fresh coat of paint. The AC failed the last two night."

"HIS WAS MORE OF A 3 STAR THEN A 5 STAR. ALL ALCOHOL WAS NOT INCLUDED EVEN WITH THE UPGRADE STATUS. SAFES WE NOT INCLUDED. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR SLIDING GLASS DOORS IF YOU ARE ON THE FIRST FLOOR, BOTH ROOMS WE HAD THE LOCKS WERE BROKEN ON BOTH. THE RESORT KEPT LOOSING POWER. "Great Place, great helpful people. Very Clean!! One thing to remember. The food had a great presentation and what they had was done with health and saftey in mind. Main dishes were good and a variety of choices. There was too many gel items which I have never seen in traveling over 40 countries. Strawberry Jam was gel liquid, Apple pie had almost no apples(gel). The Chocolate volcano desert was a gel chocolate. There were many good foods to choose from. There was a variety of many things. Need to get away from that gel taste. Couldn't get over no coffee at evening meals to go with desert."

"Property was awesome, room was very nice, people very pleasant. Food gets boring as for the buffet. It's like eating the same thing over and over. Option to eat at restaurants was not available due to booking. If you don't book for a reservation in advance like weeks you don't get to experience that option.
All Inclusive: This is the one thing I did not like at all, it tells you what your entitled to unfortunately when I went to do some sailing you first have to pay 45.00 dollars US money for instructions on using the sailing boat. Did not like that at all it shouldn't be included then!
All in All I'd rate it a 3 1/2.
