"The premises are good. The rooms are updated and clean. Food is decent, but I agree with previous reviewer %u2013 high in sodium. Quite a few times the meat and fish was over-salted. Juice, fruits and sweets were good.
On another note...... to get a shaded spot under umbrella you have to get up very early. We were up and out of the door at 6:30am. So much for getting sleep while you are on vacation%uF04C. People were cramped under the umbrella, so there is no personal space what so ever.... looot of togetherness%uF04C. You%u2018ll be lucky if your neighbours are quite, otherwise mmmmm...... i leave it to your imagination. I am glad to be home and get two quite weekends before Monday.
On the day they have dinner by the pool, the buffet was closed and only 2 restaurants open. Guess what...the waiting time till you can be sited was 30 min and then probably another 20 min till you get the food. It is another line we gave up at. The dinner by the pool implies a lot of togetherness too...big tables with a lot of people. To have some privacy we tool food upstages to the room.
The hotel doesn't have a complementary shower. The check out is at 12pm. If there are couple hours you want to spend by the pool or beach before car come to pick you up you have to figure out how to clean up yourself, to change you can use the bathroom. I think hotel offers a complementary room from 3-5pm but that might be for an additional charge. that didn't wark for us. Our car was at 2:30pm.
We weren't lucky with VIP rep who didn't give us the pickup time the first day we saw her. So the day before we were leaving i was looking for her, but she didn't show up, so concierge was calling her to find out the pick up time. The least thing i want to do on my 1 week vacation is to stay in line, track down rep and do follow ups.
The entertainment was OKish %uF04A but i am glad we had had few movies with us to watch at night %uF04A

"Where to begin...I arrived in Dreams Hotel expecting good food, good service, luxury hotel and a wonderful vacation... Not what I got. Would not go back to this place. 1. Food is terrible even at the two exclusive restaurants (Italian and French). You'd think they spend some money on a qualified chef... World buffet, I stuck to the rice and beans. Food does not taste good. Service was good. 2. All service was fine with the exception of excursion staff at Amstar and front desk. 4 out of 6 days arguing with Amstar over an excursion issues. The guy said cancel anytime no problem (just sign and give my your room number) and then wouldn't let us cancel. (booked activity in advance without the approval of the second party joinin our vaca a few days later...) In the end they said sorry but not worth what they put us through, time spent on a simple matter. Front desk at hotel dont' get involved so your on your own. They don't do a thing to lift a finger to help their hotel guests... Its as if the excursion ppl run the place.... ??? Concierge desk, tried their best to resolve our problem but it appears they are not in control and could not resolve problem swiftly. But I give the guy credit for all his efforts. The problem lies witht he hotel management, they don't have a good setup there... not professional at all, untrained staff. hotel was not as updated as i expected, but was clean. Beach was beautiful but been to better beaches. They maintain the sand but its not a white sand beach, has alot of debris all over.... Overall I will not return to a Dreams Resort, been to better establishments with hotel policies in place to oversee onsite excusion solicitation...(amstar had a desk right beside front desk!!) Food was terrible and decreased level of enjoyment. Could have gone elsewhere for fraction of the cost! NOT WORTH IT."

"My husband and I and another couple stayed at Dreams La Romana from March 25-March 30, 2013. The experience FAR exceeded our expectations. Because of the affordability, we thought the hotel would be decent, but not as modern and clean as it was. We stayed in building 5 which had large and updated rooms.
The bar and entertainment staff was exceptional, always ensuring our comfort and pleasure. The restaurants were great, and although we went at a busy time, when the resort was filled to capacity, we never waited too long for a table. Throughout the resort we never felt it to be crammed or overcrowded. Our only complaint is that some of the people selling excursions were a little too pushy. But other than that, our vacation was wonderful, and we will surely go back!"

"Good resort to stay for 5days vaca...Staff is friendly.
I had an incident where I had to use the doctor in their facility. I was very disappointed. The doctor didn't make notes of my visit as a patient, nor did he write down information of 3 meds (including a shot) he gave me. Didn't even ask my room number. No paper trail. That was scary to me. He did charged me in CASH - DOLLARS. According to this doctor, the resort does not accepts credit card....I thought this was very odd.
Resort was nice overall...Aside from the doctor visit situation, there were 2 things I was not pleased with. ALL THE FOOD offered was high in sodium. In these times, you would think that places like this are aware of people's struggles with ongoing diet. The other item is how pushy the resort's sales reps were (trying to set appointments for 'free breakfast' to listen to a sales pitch of 'time shares'),,,This was a very disappointing experience. I wanted to be on vacation - not have to deal with approaching sales reps every time I leave my room."

"The hotel was gorgeous, the grounds kept meticulous, the rooms were clean, and the staff was very accommodating.
However, the food left something to be desired. Going in with expectations for an all-inclusive resort being already lower which is always the case when cooking for the masses, we were still disappointed by the breakfast options (even in a huge buffet) as well as the meals at the restaurants. Although it was nice that you did not require reservations.
Airport was not as close as we expected. "

"This resort wasn't bad, but expected more after staying at RIU in Jamaica. The grounds was clean and peaceful, but seemed too casual for the star level. The quality of the food was good, but lacked the variety I was expecting. Not as many options as I would like for people who do not eat beef or pork. I did enjoy there workout facility and tennis courts. Please don't waste your time or money at the spa for a massage. It was nothing more than a good rub down. Their 'coupon' discounts is a joke. It felt more like a hustle to get me to spend money. They would not accept the coupons at the spa unless it was for a certain treatment even though it did not indicate it on the 'coupon'. If it wasn't for the company I was with I would not have enjoyed myself. I'm dealing with travelers symptoms from eating at their resort be careful. Hopefully, I didn't get a hold of something that a bird contaminated. Yes, birds eating the food were a real problem. Dreams La Romana Resort and Spa didn't impress me at all and probably will never stay at their chain again."

"My husband and I just got back from a 4 day weekend at this resort. This resort is defintly not worth the money it is more like a 3 star...maybe not even. The best part were the staff, very friendly and attentive. We got a room with 2 double beds although I requested a King bed when I booked and was told they had no King bedrooms available so we just accepted what we were given. The nightly entertainment was also very good. The worst part was the food. When I tell you that the food was awful, please believe I am not exaggerating. We are not picky eaters but we had maybe 1 good meal at the Seaside Grill. We both felt nauseous after leaving the Oceana Restaurant and the World Cafe wasn't better. We decided to pay the extra $60 to get the lobster dinner. It was very romantic but again, my 5 year old could have done better with that lobster. We over heard a lot of the other guests complaining about the food as well. Maybe there is an explanation why the food was like this during our stay because based on previous reviews, people seemed to enjoy the food. We both like to travel and have been to many other all-inclusive resorts throughout the Carribean so maybe our expectations were too high. This by far has been the worse. I told my husband I really have no desire to return to DR but he thinks we should try Punta Cana,?????. I originally booked our stay somewhere else but decided to change to this resort because we thought it would have been an upgrade. In retrospect, I think we should have kept our original booking because I was half the price and I don't see how it could have been much worse."

"While the beaches were very nice and water beautiful, I found the resort to be a bit run-down and in more disrepair than expected for the money. Some staff were pleasant, but most seemed ambivalent - I got the feeling that since they already had my money and it was an all-inclusive, that once I was there, pleasing the customer wasn't top priority. My favorite moment was in the Signature gift shop where we were buying T-shirts, and I tried to use one of the cupons that were provided by the hotel for discounts. The cashier wouldn't accept one for 'women's apparel' for 20% off, saying that they were for men (although not marked that way). When I said that I was buying them for women, she didn't care and wouldn't concede that 'the customer is always right.' Clearly not a Dreams custom, anyway. Another annoyance was their allowing local vendors onto the grounds at night, and having the hard-sell applied to me for their over-priced jewelry. I hadn't factored street-vendor harassment as I innocently walked through the grounds into my expectations for a 'five-star' resort. Next trip I'll be looking elsewhere."

"Pools: three pools including a kiddie pool.
Beach: Not the best. Blue opaque water with some seaweed. If clear water is what you are looking for then you will be disappointed, compared with Turks and Caicos, Cayman Island or St Johns. You can't see your feet in the water I am a BIG beach person and it was a disappointment. Def wear water shoes if you are bothered by seaweed.
Room: Room was ok, was cleaned everyday. However, the bathroom shower was poor, broken tiles and slimy. Made me feel uncomfortable to take a shower.
Entertainment: The entertainment team did a good job at getting people involved in their thing. However, entertainment lacked a lot compared to other resorts in DR such as Punta Cana.
Food: The best place to eat is the buffet as it has a variety and tasty food. The restaurants however are a different story. Very slow service, such as that I waited an hour to get my food after having complained to the waiter. His answer was 'if I didn't go get your food in the kitchen it would have stayed there?' Well as my waiter can't you tell I have been waiting for an hour to get my food????? Also the food at the restaurants is below taste standards. I would have rather eaten everyday at the buffet. The desserts at the resort are terrible!!!! Don't even bother trying them. Waste of a calorie. I am still sick 2 days later from eating that food.
Sports: There are really no beach sports, at least none that were presented to me for free. However you do have A LOT of tours right by the towel stand asking people to do tours with them which I found to be very poor for a resort to have. Instead of having them away from people in a separate section, it made me feel very uncomfortable.
Overall I would def not return. As mentioned earlier I am a beach person and I have def seen better beaches in the Caribbean especially for what I paid for per night not inc airfare.

"The hotel was bad. We bought this great room with sofa etc. When we get there its not the same thing as the picture. at first when we got picked up at the airport they did not give us water like the description said. Then we got to the hotel we had to wait about an hour to get checked in. When we finally did, it was not the room we supposedly bought. It was two full beds and not what we expected because they give you whatever room they please according to the number of guest staying in the room, which is totally wrong because they should ask first what we wanted. We went back to the front desk and spent the whole afternoon for them to change our room. They gave us the same room with a queen and a small twin bed. still not what we saw on the picture and for the price we paid it was too much for what we got. the room needed to have a sofa and a small living room area but it did not. at first arriving to the room the toilet was clogged and we had to call for a person which came an hour later after we fixed it ourselves. then the air conditioner was broken and the guy fixing it took 2 hours to try to fix it yet he could not so the whole time the room was hot. Then we called for towels and she took forever. the closet doors did not close and the re fridge or 'bar' did not cool the refreshments. The beer in the room was the worst one and they only restocked with about two bottles when there is 3 people in the room. Also the bathroom/shower had mold and we had to ask the lady to put Clorox and so did the thing where the water came down too. Also the bed my daughter received made her itch the whole night and the sheets smelled old and unwashed. the furniture was also not clean. We also left the lady a note, the one that cleans, that we needed coffee and ice and she only left the coffee and i had to go down to get the ice myself.
The seaside grill was TERRIBLE. the food was COLD,OLD and GREASY. we asked the waiter for a dish and he said they had it but he brought a different plate and we asked another waiter and he said they never had what we asked for. Then at the World Cafe my husband asked for an orange juice and the waiters did not come with it 10 minutes after when all they did was walk around him and ignore him.
THE SPA: EVERYTHING DID NOT WORK. the steam room, the pools, etc out of service. the facial 'dream exclusive' which was an extracting facial, the person doing it did not extract anything and left the room for about 20 minutes when i paid for an hour facial.
IF THE SPA DOES NOT WORK WHY OPEN IT? THEY SHOULD CLOSE IT DOWN FOR A WHILE UNTIL THEY DECIDE THAT THEY WANT TO DO A GOOD JOB.
ONLY VIP PREFERRED GUESTS ARE TREATED WELL.
The only thing we actually enjoyed was the beach and if that where the case i would of just stayed in Miami beach and enjoy my vacation."

"not exactly the hotel for families the welcoming words of the staff once you arrive is ' como estan familia vienvenido a su casa' which means hello family welcome home, me and my husband went with our 5 year old daughter and had an incident on the beach where a man and a woman got totally naked on the beach like it was in their bathroom!!!!!!!!! and if you think the general so called manager is gonna do anything about it think again when the staff ask why were leaving the hotel before our date of departure we told them the storie and we were told by the stafff that have had hundreds of families that stopped going there for the same reason so families dreams resort and spa is not the place"

"This was our first experience at an all inckusive resort. The amenities were spectacular. The pools had breathtaking views of the aqua blue ocean. The entire staff were extremely friendly and were very accommodating to any request. Although the resort is one of the bigger Dreams resort, it at no time seemed crowded. The only disappointment was the average quality of food, but this may be expected from an all inclusive resort."
