"The Sunscape has a lot going for it, but a long way to go in some areas. Our expectations were pretty low because of the negative reviews, but for the right price we can overlook a lot and would probably return.

PROS:
Nice beach
Great diving
Good value

CONS:
Poor service
Below average food

On a positive note, my husband had a great experience SCUBA diving with the onsite Ocean Encounters Dive Team. One free shore dive was included per day and they also offered several different one- and two-tank dive boat trips (for a fee). The large beach area is well maintained and a rock breakwater makes the water calm enough for swimming (bring water shoes because the bottom is rocky).
It appeared that most of the room renovations had been completed with attractive decorating, but more work is still needed. For instance, our phone and a lamp didn't work. No big deal unless there was an issue, but then we had to hike to the front desk from the far end of the property (6 minutes) to speak with anyone. The thermostat wasn't adjustable so we had to turn the A/C off at night to keep from freezing. There also wasn't an elevator in our building (Flamingo). The food in the a la carte restaurants was average, but the buffet was terrible. Service was hit or miss - most employees are nice enough, but definitely don't go the extra mile.

Don't know if it's training or what but:
1) we weren't welcomed or greeted upon arrival; no luggage assistance offered
2) our room key didn't work (more than once)
2) didn't receive the champagne & strawberries upon arrival (per our package)
3) our mini fridge was never stocked as advertised (with beer, water & soda), not even when I left a note requesting Coke Light with a tip for the maid
4) scheduled room service (per our package) one morning at 8am; it never arrived
5) missed a random item (floor mat, wash cloths, towel etc.) each day after the room was serviced

Our maid might have forgotten a few things, but we can overlook it because she was HONEST. We forgot to lock the safe several times and nothing was ever missing!!!

This is a great property that has the POTENTIAL to be 4 stars with a lot of work / training.
