Resort Details

Family run for generations, the Avila Beach Hotel can boast a unique history that covers more than two hundred years. Time seems to stand still there.

Ceiling fans whirl slowly. The air smells sweetly of hibiscus and trinitaria (bougainvillea). Palm trees on the beach seem to wave welcome. Brightly painted fishing boats chug across the azure sea. A full moon chases a warm sun westward. Another perfect day magically evolves into yet another balmy, star-studded night.

The Avila Beach Hotel is an authentic reflection of the island of Curacao. Friendly. Intimate. Understated. Welcoming. It is famous for its quiet, restful tranquility and yet it is only a short distance from bustling historic Willemstad, the capital and energetic center of Curacao.

A true coastal sanctuary, the Avila Beach Hotel features two private beaches separated by the elevated boardwalk leading to the Blues Bar/Restaurant. These are refered to as the `East` and `West` beaches. The East beach faces the direction of the wind, therefore it has a bit more wave action. The West beach is more protected from the wind and offers very calm waters to swim in. Regardless of your choice, both beaches are protected from large waves by offshore breakwaters and the turquoise waters are perfectly safe to swim or snorkel in.

The infinity freshwater pool is located near the Octagon Wing complex and offers a tantalizing alternative to relaxation on the beach.

Regardless of your choice where to spend your day, you will enjoy complimentary chaises and beach towels. Select from a menu of light fare and refreshing beverages available all day from the Pool Bar or Schooner Bar.

A wonderful venue with a great location. Beautiful rooms. Great food. Helpful and attentive staff. Attended a wedding during our stay, blown away by the picturesque location and the resort's attention to detail. Unique idea to incorporate the resort's antique vehicle.

The Hotel staff is wonderful and creates the warm and cozy atmosphere. They are very accommodating and open to special requests - i needed to have a package delivered which required notification and it was all handled very professionally. This was a business trip and the staff was flexible regarding food requests and the room layout.

This hotel is very nice. We stayed in 291 which is the wooden part where sides jet out into the ocean - very beautiful place. Much better than the remodeled part. The beach is very nice....There isn't much difference between Baoase beach and Avila. We woke up to the sound of the ocean every day. We snorkeled right outside of the hotel and felt safe. The food and drinks are not very good at the hotel but there are many amazing restaurants nearby: Rozedales, Fishalishous, Sant Tropez. They also ha... Read more

The room: it was 4 of us, 3 adults and one kid 11, it was confortable, the beds are double, good size, the matress quite OK, the pillows are thin in my opinion, they could be puffier. Daily cleaning of the room, is quick, and not un detail. The room is comfortable and they gave us an ocean front view which is awesome!!. The hotel has 4 wings, I stayed in the belle alliance, which is the oldest, but in good shape, other wings are more modern and also more expensive. The beach: it is beatiful, th... Read more

OK hotel/resort. The staff in the reception was really nice. Avila have a great pool and a nice beach. The view from the blue wing rooms is also great! But... the rooms was not cleaned properly. There was dirt under the bed and the bed sheets was not changed every day. Some days they also cleaned very late. When we arrived home from a all day activity, the room was still not cleaned. The breakfast is a disaster. It's too many birds and the staff can't control it. The birds was eating from th... Read more

We were here on our honeymoon for two weeks. We loved the view from our hotel room and the pool and beach was really nice. What we have learned is that the caribien way of life is slow, our room was sometimes not cleaned before 4:30 pm and often there was still a lot of dust left in the room especially under the bed. We also had a problem with ants in our room. We reccomend that if you stay here try to go out and eat dinner at the local restaurants and experience willemstad and the local neighbo... Read more

We absolutely loved our stay at the Avila! We first stayed at the Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort, then transferred up to the Avila for the final few nights of our time on Curacao. We loved the Santa Barbara, but if we return to the Island, would stay here over the Santa Barbara. The beach and the two bays are wonderful for relaxing and enjoying beach life! There was plenty of shade, the staff was wonderful, food was great, and the snorkeling just outside of the protected bay was wonderful... Read more

We went to Curacao for a week earlier this month. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment (suite) in the Belle Aliance. It was recently redone an everything was great. We were on the second floor and had palm trees partially blocking our ocean view. On 3 we would have been above the palm trees. My 20 year old niece was traveling with us. She had a rollaway bed in the living room and her own bathroom. One negative, the only tv was in the bedroom. However, with the perfect wireless, that wasn't... Read more

We stayed in the Blues Wing. The view was amazing. Each morning was special, being awoken by the beautiful sun and the veiw of the ocean. The ocean was great to swim in. Only down-side was the tiny ants that occupied the room. The gym at this hotel was- perfection! Food and drink prices were too inflated for the quality! Food wasn't good. Eat some place else. The views from my room were stunning, the room was great, my bed was more than comfortable, the staff was friendly, warm, polite, professional and hospitable. The food here at the hotel was delicious and affordable and the snorkeling was among the best I've ever experienced. I can't wait to get back to this island.

It's very nice and relaxing. The hotel staff is friendly and hospitable. I really enjoyed myself that day. We have been coming to this amazing Caribbean pearl for over 10 years now. Although it recently changed ownership, it is still by far the most tantalising place in the region. Apart from the fact that it has probably the best hotel beach you can find anywhere on the Island, few know that behind its' 'wave-breakers' one of the best and by far the most easily accessible snorkel spots of the entire island can be found. If you're comparing this place to some of the other big hotels on the island, this one wins on location. It's really close to the historic downtown and the commercial heart of Willemstad. The hotels around Jan Thiel/Caracas Bay are too far out of town, and are in the wrong direction from the majority of beaches in the northwest. The Avila is not without its flaws though. It's a beautiful property, but ultimately the list of small problems got too long. Service at the bar was chaotic and super s... Read more
