Now, if you are the sort of person who likes to have a drink with the locals or take a walk beyond your hotel, Villa Caletas is NOT for YOU. It is a ***** 5 STAR PARADISE ***** perched 1000 metres above the Pacific Ocean. Every suite is luxurious and unique. Ours had a jacuzzi plus a hot tub outside! There are no corner stores or streets around. There are paths to explore but fences around the property. Don't sweat ... you won't want to escape for there is everything to tempt your palate an... We never thought we'd stay in a place like this, as the views and accommodations were unmatched. The stay also includes a huge private beach with a small eatery (shrimp ceviche!) & endless drinks. We watched two storms roll thru as well: once while on the patio during dinner, and the other while we were on the patio in the hot tub...unreal. Employees at the front desk, concierge, and restaurant were all the nicest people. However, be aware that access to most, if not all rooms require a goo... Read more

We were invited to witness a marriage with the sunset as background. At the new Polynesian house. Breathtakin view, seemed like a movie location. The only con of the establishment, it is not adequate for the elderly, the impaired or small children, very steep stairs and not enough elevators. All around service very good, and the different restaurants excellent.

Unique beautiful property on top of a mountain with great views and friendly staff. I loved the privacy and views. Restaurant - very attentive. Not great . Breakfast is best . Cocktails not high end or made well. Rooms- we had a villa. Nice but AC very loud and bathtub flooded onto balcony. Little tight and narrow at places. Nice balcony- very private. Amenities- the location is amazing . If you have any physical difficulties forget this place. There are a lot of hills and steps - good to walk... Read more

Complete paradise. The windy road that takes you along the ridge and to the villas is stunning. The hotel looks like it is straight out of a Restoration Hardware catalogue with stone and iron everywhere. The sunset and views from the hills are impossible to top and I don't know if there is a room with a bad view in the house. Watching the sunset with a drink in hand is the stuff dreams are made of. We changed our travel plans a few days prior to our travel to Costa Rica where we arrived a day early so we picked and stayed at Villa Caletas. It turns out this was the BEST hotel out of four hotels we stayed in Costa Rica. We had a beautiful view of the beach and the forest. In the morning, a monkey jumped onto our balcony and it was great watching the monkey briefly until my daughter ran up to the window and pounded the glass. 3.5 Stars Beautiful property and amazing views. Room was very nice but extra coffee was a mini bar charge. Service throughout the resort is so/so. Mini facial at the spa was the best ever! Food at amphitheater is good but pricy. Taxi to Jaco or Herrdura is $20/each way. However, the bugs/flying insects here were outrageous! In an effort to sustain an eco friendly image the resort chooses not to use pesticides against bugs. Multiple days the pool was close to unusable because of all the bugs... Read more

GOOD: Secluded, friendly staff, beautiful views, cozy resort, decent food, reservation staff was very good, nice pool, hourly beach shuttle, etc. BAD: Small, expensive limited food options, secluded so it is a few miles from anything, the beach not really swimmable, jungle critter take over, not much to do onsite, from to anywhere on the resort is an hike, etc.... Beautiful, scenic location. Restaurant was delicious. Infinity pool spectacular. Spa was gloriously relaxing. And the staff was outstanding when my husband experienced a medical emergency. They got us the assistance needed, accompanied us to the clinic, rearranged transportation for the rest of our family to make it to the airport in San Jose. They remained calm and helpful in an emotionally stressful situation. Highly recommend Villa Caletas.

Breathtaking views of ocean. Just went to order a drink and pray that the rain would pass and it did. We left contemplating on when and if we could stay there on our next trip to CR. Beautiful drive up the mountain and easy to get to from where we were staying in Punta Leona. Hotel staff very accommodating offering us umbrellas. As we exited the cars. THE ROOM: We stayed in 2 different rooms, and both were amazing. One was larger inside, and one had a larger balcony. It was always hard to decide if we should go to the public areas, which are so beautiful you have people from hotels all over the place coming to see the sunset or eat at the restaurant, or sit in the privacy of our own balcony. I first visited this restaurant last year. It is just simply breathtaking. I was with friends, and we went only for cocktails and the view. Recently, a customer was visiting Jaco, and this is where we took her for dinner. Not only was the food great and service even better, it is the view that makes this place magical. While I have not yet stayed in the hotel, this will be in the future. The grounds and buildings are par to none. Fantastic!!!!

Beach area is below average and you have to wait for the hourly trip by 4x4 to get to it. Also besides restaurant at night there is absolutely nada and I mean nothing to do. The room had a large bedroom, a large separate bathroom with double sinks, an anteroom, a terrace large enough to have party, and complete privacy from other rooms. The hotel dining room has a view of the ocean - great at breakfast and stunning at sunset. Service by staff was impecca... Read more

It is simply one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. The views are breath taking as it is located on top of a mountain. How often do you have amazing brunch and see eagles flying below you?

Hotel Villa Caletas was a highlight! Breathtakingly beautiful views and sunsets, lovely infinity pool, quiet luxurious spa in the rainforest with the birds chirping, delicious food in the bar and restaurant! Service was the best! Our compliments to Reinier, Jackson and Norman for making our drinks, appetizers and dinner completely wonderful!! They were so gracious and sincerely friendly we didn't want to leave! Loved every minute, made our day??????

Based off of reviews & pictures we we're excited to visit Villa Caletas.. let me just say, they didn't disappoint. I often read reviews where people have to complain about something, but you can't please everyone all the time. The junior suite was FABULOUS! Yes food & such can be a bit pricey so if anything the only thing that could make this place better is if it was all inclusive. It can seem a bit crowded at times but just venture out more because the grounds are beautiful, or go downtown. Ov... Read more

It's located in a nice location where you can see the ocean view. The decorations look a bit quirky for me. It's mixed style and I don't really understand the concept at all. We were recommended by other sister hotel in Monteverde and expected Villa Chalets would have standard as another hotel. We did not feel that we were welcome by the front desk staff. He seemed a bit cold and unfriendly. However, the bellboy was very nice and helpful! The hotel has a very nice garden and swimming pool thou... Read more

We love Villa Caletas more than any place we have stayed in Costa Rica. It is real Costa Rican flavor. Slow and elegant. The service is excellent, the food is excellent, the rooms are excellent. The people could not be more helpful and pleasant. We could not have been more pleased.

We live in Costa Rica and spent our honeymoon here and have gone to the restaurant on several special occasions. The rooms are perfect and the view is stunning. The service is impeccable, and the restaurant manager, Reiner, always remembers us, gives us special attention, and makes us feel very special. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The grounds are breathtaking and poolside is an amazing view. When we went to their beach, we actually saw whales. The view from the restaurant a... Read more

We spent several days at Villa Caletas during the "off" season. The weather was gorgeous, the views were stunning and the service was impeccable. We had a Junior Suite near the reception and it was incredible. The wraparound terrace was incredible. The interiors were all original architecture and antique furniture which we love. There was some "new" construction rooms around but we much prefer the older room. The infinite pool is amazing. We spent an afternoon down the mountain at the beach. The... Read more

The hotel in general is ver y nice. But for the price I was expecting a more comfortable room. We stayed at a Villa. A/C was very annoying turning on.and.off constantly. Very noisy. Garden out of our balcony was not well kept. The villa is very old doesn't look warm or comfy at all. The bed (queen) didn't feel like it. In general I felt trapped like in a cage while in the room. The rest of the hotel is astonishing.

We did not stay at this hotel, but enjoyed an amazing dinner and spa treatments. The people a the hotel could not be any nicer and accommodating. The drive up to the hotel is exhilarating, frightening and full of incredible views. We simply walked in (dressed very casually) and were treated very nicely. We received a short tour of the facilities and made a reservation to come back for dinner the next night. The dinner was exquisite. We spotted several Macaws and many different butterflie... The "Villas" aré beautiful with a jacuzzi outside and so private, the infinity pool has an amazing view, the food was delicious and Jocksan was great attending us at the restaurant, so kind, and made us feel good. The spa looks nice too, and the service to the beach was good, it is a very quiet beach. So satisfied!

We loved our stay at Villa Caletas! The room was beautiful and we were able to see parrots and toucans from our balcony! The restaurant food was delicious and the staff was the BEST! In our two-day stay we got to know our servers by name and enjoyed getting the best information about our local area of Costa Rica. We were sad to leave!

We had an excellent lunch there as part of an animal tour there 4 days ago. The location and establishment is stunning. Elygen was our waiter and did a great job. Joevanna was our tour guide and provided well informed commentary at this hotel and throughout the tour.

I just finished my stay at this hotel and it was amazing. The staff, the views and the food served were all top notch. If you want to feel one with nature, or just need a place to unwind then this is the place to go. It has a private beach with cabanas, lounge chairs, washroom facilities and they also serve snacks and drinks. The beach is rocky but the views are wonderful. The infinity pool was stunning and makes for some amazing pictures as well! There was only one restaurant open during our ... Read more

My friend and I came here for a quick getaway and overall, it was very relaxing. There's not much going on - there are a couple of restaurants but they close early and there's no entertainment. For us, it was a bit too quiet and isolated, and too far from other sites. But for couples looking to just relax, it's nice. The staff is very friendly and the pool is beautiful. There's also a shuttle to the beach but it was empty when we went and too dangerous to swim. The rooms were nice but we saw q... Read more

We spent 3 nights at Villa Caletas, and don't regret it! We went there as a couple after having spent 5 days visiting the natural parcs in Costa Rica. We had a standard room, but even the regular room was great, well decorated, super clean, with a nice balcony. The hotel is located in the rainforest, which makes it very quiet and intimistic (we even saw some animals around the hotel, it was great!). But at the same time it's very close to Jaco, the national parc Carara, etc.. You just need a ca... Read more

The resort is very beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. One of the restaurants was closed so there was limited dining. Our waiter at the one restaurant, Norman, was excellent. The hotel offers the best of two resorts as you are on top of the mountain for a beautiful view of the rain forest, but you can access the shuttle to go down to the private beach. The city tour of Jaco is recommended. Overall, a nice trip.

We could not have been more thrilled with our stay at Villa Caletas! Our daughter was married there, and the staff was fabulous. Mariana as a coordinator took such care of every detail...even down to the execution of "Plan B" when the downpour started.??? The hotel itself is lovely, food was great, and view out of this world. We will return to Villa Caletas without a doubt. HIGHLY recommend.

This place is gorgeous. Hands down. Sunset is beautiful. Best place to stay in the area. We stayed here for one night before flying out the next day. It worked out great. I read a lot of reviews that the basic rooms were to be avoided but we took a chance and booked the basic room. It was honestly gorgeous and I am a super picky person. Not sure if we just lucked out, but it was in the main building so not a lot of walking, close to everything, the view was stunning, and the room was spacious an... Read more
