We stayed twice at Tryp Sabana on our Costa Rican tour and can fully recommend it. The rooms are at a good elevation, we had the 6th and 7th floor, there is no exterior noise and the mountain views are good. The decor is perhaps a little dated and the rooms are on the small side, but everything works well, the beds are fine and the bathroom is well laid-out. Front desk is very busy but also very efficient. Overall, staff very helpful. The hotel's stand-out feature though is the breakfast, which ... Read more

very neat, comfy and great décor. Our side was very quiet, nice view, good breakfast, fast elevator. Only things I did not like were that it was a bit difficult to access due to 1 way streets and the bathroom (toilet and shower) was a bit too small.

Stayed here for two nights at the beginning of a trip around Costa Rica and then another night at the end. This hotel is well situated for the airport, as the transfer is only about 20 minutes or so. It's not city centre, which makes it more accessible but that means that it's not in a bustling area for restaurants etc. However, there are some good ones within walking distance - we ate at Machu Pichu twice which is down a side road off the main road on which the hotel stands (cannot remember ... Nice staff, inside hotel nicely done, parking across the street, small but tidy room, very nice breakfast BUT strongly advise against walking outside the hotel at night. If going somewhere at night lock your car or take a cab (lots) and know where you are going. Central San Jose has changed over the years and is not a sleepy retirement town any more!!

I stayed there with my wife, and we were positively surprised with what we experienced. The best of the best was definitely the customer service. From the parking personnel to the front desk, everybody gave his/her best to provide the best customer service possible. Our room was very comfortable and the location of the hotel was very convenient as it was located very close to points of interest in San Jose. The breakfast offered by the hotel was very fresh and had a good variety of choices. Defi... Read more

Perfect place to stay for one night upon first arrival in Costa Rica. We took Orange Cab from the San Jose airport - 15,000 Colons (~$30) - about 25 minutes. And then walked to Alamo to pick up our rental car the next morning. Within 2-3 blocks, there are: **Most major car rental locations **AMPM and other mini-market **McDonald's and Subway **Other bar and restaurant options Rooms were clean and comfortable - as expected for a moderate hotel. However, our suite was oddly shaped with a sm... Read more

Walls are paper thin so you can hear your neighbors and the sounds from the streets all night long. Carpets need to be replaced. Coming from Arenal, this place is a huge step down from accommodations to customer service. Happy to only be staying one night. On a positive note, breakfast is good.

Average hotel. I kept reading how wonderful and friendly the staff were and to be honest I didn't experience that at all. I tried to put some drinks on my room but was told that I had to have a credit card linked to my account- totally fair enough however I wasn't told this when I checked in. Then when I was able to link my card to my room I felt as though it was my fault I hadn't originally suggested this. I put laundry in and it says it's be returned by 6pm. 6:30pm came and I called reception ... Read more

Yes the area around this hotel is not the place to "hang out" and you certainly not a place to stay for an extended time but the room was clean, the hotel lobby and common areas were more stylish than would be expected and the included breakfast was typical Tico fare- rice and bean, lot of mixed dishes and a selection of fruit. All this at a really reasonable price- room and breakfast for 3 was under $100 USD for the night.

This was a fabulous hotel. It is very clean and the staff was wonderful. The walk to the city center isn't too far (maybe a mile and a half or so) and if you don't want to walk, they can provide you with a taxi called by concierge. The breakfast is pretty good, just make sure if you get an omelette, you use the Lizano salsa. It's AMAZING!!!!

Our stay was awesome. Our family had a great time. Location is conveniently located in the city with great walk to park and locals. Daily tours recommended by hotel were superb with great vegetarian food choices. We would definitely go back here. All the staff members were great and professionally trained to handle US tourists like us. It's a lovely and safe country to visit with family.

There are quite a few restaurants and bard around the hotel with plenty of choice. Our room up on the 5th floor had a nice view of the city

Hotel is of a good standard - tv air con coffee maker fridge safe. Bar area and restaurant. Restaurant is a little pricey for what you get but quality good enough. No pool which is a pain if you have kids! Close to park where locals frequent. About 20-25 min walk down the main strip to centre of San Jose and walking street. If you just want accommodation in san jose this is a good choice.

We stayed at the Tryp Sabana for a total of 3 nights during a tour of Costa Rica and although it is not a "top quality" hotel, we found it to be totally fine for our needs. The first room (on the 4th floor) was quite big and we had a good sized shower too. The second room (on the 9th floor) was smaller with a tiny bathroom - but as a comfy and practical place to crash, the Tryp Sabana fits the bill. Location is not bad either, only a short taxi ride or walk into the city centre and tourist attra... Read more

I stayed two different times over the last week with a tour in Costa Rica. The first room I had was much nicer than the second one. The second one was small and wasn't totally clean. However, the restaurant had great food and had nice staff. Also, the free wi-fi was good. One thing that would have been nice would be to have a bit of a different cable package for the rooms. There was no English TV so even International CNN wasn't available. Overall, an average hotel.

The hotel is not immense and felt a little cozy. The restaurant downstairs has a good complimentary breakfast We also ate there for "Happy Hour" and it was just fine. Hotel is very nice and clean. The staff is very nice and helpful. I didn't really like the area too much, it was farther away from the center of town, in a somewhat shady area to walk at night. But the staff will be happy to call a taxi for you if you need it. Also, I gave it 4 stars because with the weather in Costa Rica, it would have been great if it had a pool. In regards to the wifi, it was offered for free, but I had to keep logging in over and over again.

Everything was great. All the people very friendly, especially Grayvin from the restaurant. He gave us recommendations and told us about local drinks. The rooms are clean and updated, however, it is noisy in the rooms but we were not in our room during the day. At night it calms down. Side note: the bellman should be more aware of the surroundings, when I arrived with my luggage, no one helped us carried them to the lobby and there was a bellman standing by the door. We came here with a tour group to spend three nights total while traveling around Costa Rica. On our third visit I was told at the desk that we had taken some towels on our second visit. I argued with them that they were free to check my luggage. They would find no towels there. We had told the maid when we arrived for that stay that there was only one towel in the bathroom. We stayed here for one night during a tour of Costa Rica. The rooms here are large, clean and comfortable. We had a view across the city and to the mountains beyond. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant. It wasn't cheap, but the food and service was good. The breakfast buffet was very good. We stayed for our final night in this hotel, on the conclusion of our tour of Costa Rica. This is what you would expect of any hotel located in any city centre of the world. We were originally allocated a double room on one corner of the hotel. You could barely get into bed on one side and a post inhibited access on the other. \The standard of cleanliness was poor. This was part of the Thomson's Grand Tour of Costa Rica, of which we all thought was a waste of time, after spending a week of travelling around rain forests and waterways in the forests, to be dumped in a back street that was quite a slummy looking area. My family and I decided to stay here after coming for an event in San Jose. They advertise private parking on their website. But they do not have pricate parking. The parking space they use is a public parking space they share with a the next door night club. We went to park our car and its filled with people drinking and smoking pot and more.. its not a safe area to be in at night. So if your driving, this place is your worst option. Unless you here to go to the night club, dont stay here.
