The Poas Volcano Lodge was so serene and beautiful. Learning the history of the Lodge was super interesting. Our room was amazing! The staff and food were fantastic. A special thank you to Wilberth who was our guide going to the volcano and Doka Coffee Estate and sightseeing.

This unique and charming mountain lodge is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. You may share the winding dirt road with a few cows as you approach the property beautifully nestled in the cloud forest away from city lights and busy streets. The natural beauty of the land and lodge seem to blend together in a seamless, thoughtful and ecologically sustainable way with elegant architectural details and craftsmanship. The staff was exceptionally warm and well informed and eager to share their ... Read more

The area was a very pleasant surprise, so close to the capital but feeling just the right amount of remote. It consists of welcoming rolling farmland rather than harsh forest, and itâ??s not particularly hard to navigate, offering many great, authentic roadside cafes and fruit stands in season. Itâ??s pleasantly cool, like England, with a tendency for rain, but is still sunnier than actual England. The lodge is understated elegance. Again, it feels like youâ??re in an English estate, which you a... Read more

We are here with a group and we were assigned rooms so did not have a choice. We did get to see the other rooms in the lodge and the building close to the lodge. Those rooms were stunning! However we got the room down hill of the lodge. #8 junior garden rooms. It was very clean, but an overwhelming smell of mildew. The bed was hard. The two cloth chairs are tiny. No AC. It was warm at first but cooled off quickly at night. There is a big bay window in the room and bathroom but only... Read more

The Quetzal Suite #5 is simply stunning. With comfy queen size beds, furry hot water bottles tucked under the sheets at night to keep the chill out, and a private patio to soak in the midday sun, this lodge is the perfect nature retreat. Breakfast was varied and served with a smile every day, and evening meals featured fresh fish and local veggies and fruits, cooked and presented very nicely. We particularly loved the greenhouse and the hiking trails which provided us with exercise, great ou... Read more

A wonderful small and charming nice place, perfect to chill out after a day spent at the Poas national Park. The lodge is an ancient diary farm turned into a fine boutique hotel. There is a game room and a large and beautiful fireplace for damp evenings, usually a very nice place to make new friends. The food is great, such as the breakfast. Rooms are really nice, large enough and cosy. This place makes you feel home, What else could you ask?

We arrived to the lodge after exploring all day. We had suite #5, it was gorgeous. Beautiful hardwood floors, floor to ceiling Windows with a sitting area outside. The sitting area had flowers in which the hummingbirds visited occasionally. There was a couch an a desk with a coffee service. It gets quite chilly in the evenings here so I'd recommend bringing a light jacket. The breakfast was light but good. Eggs or crepes with various fresh fruit. Wilber was very friendly and able to answer all ... Read more

We stayed here 2 nights ago and it was absolutely perfect! I was hesitant to book a room here after our long flight from San Diego, (thinking I should stay in Alajuela), but I am so happy I did. My family loved it. It was so peaceful and such a beautiful place to stay. We were in a garden room (8) and it was gorgeous. The view of cows from our bedroom window was a bonus for my kids. They were also delighted to come back to the room and find hot water bottles in the bed and chocolates on the pi... Read more

Wonderful lodge to stay in. Staff was excellent Lodge rooms were great and they made it an incredibly comfortable with wood burning stoves at night. Bring a jacket and rain coat along as the temperatures get a little cooler, and enjoy the stoves at night.

The only reason I gave this lodge a 4 out of 5 is because there is not a lot to do there and I feel they have so much acreage that a hot tub, sauna, or hot springs area would be a great touch. Other than that, this place by far is the most unique place you will find in Costa Rica. In the evening, it feels like you are in an English country lodge. It gets dark early and it is chilly and it mists at night. The staff light a wood fire in a little stove in many parts of the main house (which is... Read more

We really enjoyed Poas Volcano Lodge. We only stayed here one night (the day we arrived in San Jose). It's only about 50 minutes from the airport, but a world away from the bustle of San Jose. The landscape is beautiful, lush and green. We walked on the property's trails in the evening and then played pool in the gamer ohm at night. The room was lovely and fit our family of four perfectly. There are not a ton of rooms, so t has the feel of a very nice bed and breakfast, especially since the brea... Read more

Was very impressed by this boutique lodge. They have their own farm to supply food etc, make their own cheeses etc. We stayed in the most beautiful room, so much natural sunlight and a huge bathroom. Views of Poas Volcano form the property were great. Restaurant on site had good, fresh food, and had a large selection of beverages. A little chilly in the evening as so high up, bring a sweater. The lounges in the building were great, even had a small wood stove for cooler nights.

I rarely give 2 stars on hotels that present gorgeous pictures and have great architecture. But reviews should be truthful. Hotel building architecture is nice and unique. Rooms were designed years ago and they are cute. Everything is "antique". Overall hotel ambiance is good, landscape is beautiful therefore I gave it 2 stars. But don't be surprised if you walk-in and there is no one at the front desk to greet you! There is a little bell you can ring and sometime will show up. Now this is t... Read more

I will go out of my way to stay here, literally. I have stayed here twice now with my husband and it is just a beautiful hotel. The architecture in the main lodge and the cabins are incredible considering the originally construction was destroyed in the earthquake. The views are just amazing and it always is so cozy with the fires throughout the hotel. I love the garden room with the fire place so I would suggest trying to reserve that one. The other garden rooms are cute but much smaller. The s... Read more

Well worth the visit. Traveled down a dirt road with dairy cows in front of us as we waited patiently for them to go into the pasture. Arrived at this fabulous lodge and was very impressed with room #6. The wow factor! Went out for dinner and when arrived back to room the bed was turned down and there was a hot water bottle under the sheets. Amazing! There were also umbrellas outside the room to use as needed. Loved the place! Gorgeous flowers everywhere. Bathroom was stunning!

My husband have been traveling in Costa Rica and this place was a highlight of our trip. The Lodge is part of a working dairy farm high in the mountain by the Poas Volcano. The weather is colder up here, but a nice change. We met honeymooners and families coming for the weekend from San Jose. There are rooms in the Lodge, which were a little more expensive, and we had a 'garden room', which were a row of rooms next to the lodge. They were a little more chilly, and we had the portable heater on a... Read more

Stayed here for just one night and knew as soon as we walked in it would not be enough. Gorgeous, stylish, gigantic rooms. Lovely library with hot tea and cookies in the afternoon. Lovely grounds to wander. The Bird feeder was busy non stop with beautiful colorful birds. and my favorite part - when you retire for the night, there is a hot water bottle in your bed. Loved this place!

My family and I spent one night at the Lodge and wish we could have stayed longer. Our trip was cut short due to Hurricane Otto. Not knowing if the hurricane was going to hit the San Jose area, we decided to move our flight up a day. The lady at reception was very helpful in helping us reach the airline and car rental companies. We had to leave very early the next morning and they packed us some fruit and crackers to take with us. The room was spacious for four. We would definitely love to ... Read more
