It was a great experience. People are nice and friendly, the service is great, the surrounding is a dream. You can sit down and watch the birds, take a short walk to a waterfall or just relax. They produce their own electricity and hot water - with solar power. Great!

This Eco Lodge was located an hour from the main route (34), Tarcoles River, Carara National Park and the coast. Most of the hour drive is on a horrendous dirt road. If you are planning on traveling to any of the mentioned locations I would suggest stay elsewhere. I stayed four nights; two of which the owners friends/family‚??s with ten noisy children ruined half of my stay. There was constant yelling and slamming of doors. Although the manger knew I was not happy with the noise and tried ... Read more

I visited this place with my partner in a small birding group in 2015.and came back with my partner April 2016.This is a fantastic place to come relax and be at one with your surroundings. You can either go on long walks.or walk round the gardens and relax. This is an eco friendly place run on solar energy so no plug points in rooms, but can charge devices and access free Internet whilst in main building. I am not a birder like my partner. But fell in love with this beautiful place and it's tranqu... Read more

This place is just out of this world. I have travelled a lot but this is one of the most amazing places with the best vibes I have ever been to. Hard earned - because the drive is a real challenge. Thanks to my husband who was happy to push our 4x4 to its limits we arrived there an hour after setting of from Tarcoles. The dramatic nature starts once you drive through the gates. The use of plants is very sophisticated nothing I have ever seen before. We were greeted by Stephanie and shown to our ... Read more

First off, if you are renting a car and driving there on your own, you might flatten a tire. The lodge is a 30-45 minute drive around and around a mountain, on an uneven, bumpy dirt road. Do not even try finding the place at night without a guide, you will get lost! Its like a maze if you do not see the signs for the lodge. After arriving there, you will be amazed by the beauty of the surroundings. If you stay in the main building, you will have best wifi connection. But if you're in your own ca... Read more

This eco lodge is everything. it is a beautiful oasis. When we arrived the staff greeted us with tropical drinks, and they were so friendly and welcoming. The tour demonstrating how they are self sustaining and eco friendly made me realize how wasteful we are, and how eco friendly we can be. The rooms are beautiful, rustic and clean. The food is made fresh at each meal. The grounds are breath taking, and as per the history of this place, the owner had a dream that came to fruition. The roa... Read more

We enjoyed our second visit even more than the first which was last year at the same time. Jessica and all the staff were very kind and hospitable. Food was very fresh and lovingly prepared. The natural beauty all around was stunning! The bamboo sheltered yoga platform was a definite highlight--like and outdoor cathedral! A short hike to the waterfall on grounds also beautiful. Birds, butterflies and frogs abound. We will return soon! Our Vida!

Excelent hotel, very clean, great staff, and excelent food (95% of the ingredients comes from the same property land) The botanical control of all the species and the lessons from the guide makes your stay a great oportunity to learn about that science

I went to Macaw lodge for a yoga retreat with my students this weekend. For quite some time other teachers have been telling me about this place, none of what they said could really explain what we felt when we got there. We arrived at night after adventuring on a bad road (don't go without a 4WD) which makes you feel eve more secluded into the mountain. We were lovingly received by the staff who were waiting for us at the parking lot. We came in straight for dinner that was made just for us sin... Read more

I just came back from a weekend-long yoga retreat at Macaw Lodge, and truly cannot wait to go back. The grounds are cared for, lush, completely peaceful and breath-taking. Jessica and the staff were nothing but smiles, dedicated to us, responding to our every demand with care and courtesy. The food was healthy, and made mostly with home-grown ingredients, which was very impressive. I definitely recommend this tropical boutique-yoga-lodge paradise to anyone wishing to get away from the noise an... Read more

We just came back an extended weekend trip from Costa Rica and we spent 3 days at Macaw Lodge. Three days in paradise! The Lodge is Eco friendly running on solar energy, beautifully maintained gardens and ponds that is home for a wide variety of birds including the macaw and other indigenous species. The healthy and tasty food is prepared from the organically grown vegetables grown locally. I really liked that they informed us, what we ate, the name of the vegetables in the salad, what fruit th... Read more

My visit to the Macaw Lodge was a real treat. This place is amazing, from the artistry in the kitchen with a delicious farm-to-table menu to the beautifully landscaped grounds. My room in the main lodge was very comfortable and had a view of the ponds and forest. There are other private cabins on the hillside which looked like a great place for couples, and I hope to book on of those next time. Everything was sustainably sourced and high quality. The lodge itself is located in a part of the rain... Read more

I had been referred to the Macaw Lodge because it is not too far from San Jose (2.5 - 3 hours drive, depending on traffic)and I was told it was going to be perfect for a retreat we were doing with about 20 people. It was more than perfect! I was so excited that the Lodge is completely off-grid and yet with all the "mod-cons". The octagonal central Lodge has several spacious, high-ceilinged rooms, all with large windows and great views. I got to stay in one of the cabins that dot the 100-hectare ... Read more
