We loved the El Silencio! My wife and I are both very active, outdoorsy people so this was the perfect location for us. We came to the lodge for our first stop on our honeymoon. We booked the "Costa Rica Cloud Forest Adventure" package which included zip-lining, the hidden treasure waterfall hike, a horseback ride, and a mystic hike. We also did the 3 waterfalls hike on our own. All of it was great. The staff was all very accommodating and we really felt like they went out of our way to make sur... Read more

It has a beautiful setting and the rooms were of a very high standard spacious with an outside hot tub. The grounds are beautiful and well worth exploring. The Hummingbird garden was a delight and we kept returning to it. It was a highlight in what was a very good trip to Costa Rica. Found some of the waiting staff a little too over friendly. Whilst i don't want the staff being aloof I feel that a little distance is best for all.

Great place. quite, great staff. Great food with a great chef. You get your own little house or villa here. Nestled in the cloud forest. The road getting to this resort is sick, dirt and rock road. farm to table. We picked our own vegetables and eggs from the hotels farm. Great zip lining, etc.

This was the first stop on our honeymoon, almost 5 years ago (November 2011). I was just checking the reviews because we are seriously considering a trip back. The draws: The stunning natural setting, the amazing food, the fabulously efficient but unobtrusive staff, the lovely spa, the gorgeous hiking, and quiet like never before. We did the cultural tour and made tortillas in a local home, toured an orchid garden, etc. What a great chance to see what life outside a resort is really like! We ... Read more

We visited El Silencio for our 3rd and final stop of our honeymoon. Some of the staff were very kind, others were pretty stoic - I may not have thought so had the resort before us not been so very friendly. There are no tv's in the room, which my husband handled better than I thought he would. It wasn't a problem, we were just pretty bored the hour before bed and early in the morning when we were up because of birds. There was also no AC in the rooms. Being from Texas where we run AC 10 months o... Read more

We spent 3 days at El Silencio and enjoyed every minute of it ... The staff was very accommodating, excellent service, the food was excellent and the property was very relaxing. Very eco friendly. Here they seem to give attention to even the smallest details to make your stay more than just pleasant. The three waterfalls on the property are an awesome treat after a short hike through the rainforest. The organic blackberry vines are really cool bonus afterwards for a sweet bite. El Silencio was our first stop of two in Costa Rica for our honeymoon (the second was Hotel Punta Islita, their sister hotel in Guanacaste). We fell in love with El Silencio immediately. Roberto was our concierge and he helped us to feel at home with a delicious welcome drink and a thorough explanation of everything we needed to know. We adored our suite with its rocking chairs on the patio (overlooking some stunning green mountains) and our private outdoor hot tub. The excursions were phenomena... Read more

Where should I start? Well I wanted to have a special stay in the Cloud Forest not too far from San Jose and I discovered this lodge and the Bajos del Torro area which doesn‚??t get too much coverage in the travel books. So right there I felt I had found a hidden gem and boy was I right. From the moment my wife and I arrived I knew this was going to be a perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. Yes, the scenery and the lodge itself were amazing but Orlando, Sergio, Roberto and the woman who... Read more

We had a fantastic stay as a family of 4 plus a family friend, staying in one of the villas with a fabulous outdoor hot tub and a clever indoor/outdoor fireplace. A brilliant space for 5 adults in a gorgeous green setting. The hike up to the waterfall is beautiful so long as you have the right gear for sudden downpours which we did - now I know what a cloud forest is. The boys enjoyed the horse riding and zip-lining. My husband and I spent the second half of our honeymoon at El Silencio and absolutely loved it. Our casita (that's how they do rooms there -- perfect for honeymooners because there are no shared walls) had its own private hot tub, and was nestled among the trees, with a front porch and two rocking chairs overlooking the green mountains. They even supplied us everything we needed to make our own pour over Costa Rican coffee every morning. We did massages at the spa and they were fantastic. We ... Read more

Spent 3 days here in May and I wish we have spent more time here. We drove ourselves around - yes we drove in Costa Rica - and we also drove ourselves to this property. The road can get a bit tricky, we read ahead and arrived at around 2 pm when there was still sunshine. This property has it own reserve, walking in it you will be able to see 3 amazing waterfalls. As Los Angelenos, we rather welcome the rain. The El Silencio, located in a cloud forest, was our first destination and, if we ever return to Costa Rica, may be the only stop. We chose El Silencio for the last few nights of our three week holiday, since it‚??s not too far from San Jose and we wanted to spend a bit of time in the cloud forest. We had intended to use it as a base to visit Poas volcano but our planning let us down: even though El Silencio is essentially on the flank of Poas volcano and is just a few miles as the crow flies from the caldera, it actually takes at least 90 minutes to get there by road!
