"very good food, lots of iguanas (!), but you won't be able (most likely) to use actual beach, so consider pools instead;
they do not have free wi-fi in rooms (!) and do not give you enough hair conditioner if you do not ask;
when leaving - make sure that you have everything packed! because it is almost impossible to receive anything back even if you know for sure that they found your stuff! times runs differently there (well - it walks there, or - wobbles), and you feel that you talk to an alien...;
but overall - staff is friendly, and at Front Desk they speak very good English!

"The room was nice but even though we booked this resort 6 months in advance, they did not provide the king bed that we requested for us. That was disappointing. Probably because it was the offseason, the pier was closed and the seafood restaurant was closed. The casino was closed. Only the buffet restaurant was open (but not at the posted hours). One specially restaurant was available but you had to be staying a minimum of 3 nights to be eligible to get in. The main pool was nice. The adults only pool is small and isolated from the snack bar and bar. It is also surrounded by buildings that block any air movement making it hot. No staff seem to clean up around this pool, as plates and glasses that we saw from the day before were still there the following days. This resort is right on the beach but the beach seems stained with oil (probably from the large ships using the harbor just a few miles away). The tiny town of Puntarenas doesn't offer much in the way of restaurants or shops. We would not return to this resort based on value or food selection. Other places we have visited are better values."

"The common areas of the hotel are good, however the rooms leave much to be desired. We stayed in what was supposed to be the newly updated building (3). The room looked somewhat put together, loose tiles, dusty and broken fixtures. We received only large bath towels for 3 of the 4 days, having to use them as washcloths. The alcoholic drinks taste like juice, unless you were drinking straight tequila or scotch. The brands were mostly from Costa Rica, making it quite difficult to enjoy them. The food in the Ala Carte Restaurants was pretty good, however the buffet food items were pretty much the same thing everyday. I have stayed at other Doubletree Hotels and I am sad to say that this facility makes you think twice about staying at another, if you have never been to any of the others.

"Unless you are in the nearby parts of Costa Rica for another purpose such as business like I was, I would not recommend staying here, and definitely no reason to come here from the US, as there are plenty of other nicer stays. Stay away.. as much as they advertise 'beach front resort' , it is not a beach that anyone goes on, fairly dirty, dirty water from the gulf and all the cargo ships that sit out in the gulf is not very pleasant. The rooms are damp, with flys/ants around. Very noticeable since there are dead ones on the wall from prior guests, and we probably killed another 5-10 in our 3 nights. No hot water showering either. Only thing we enjoyed was pretty decent food. The pool appears really nice in pictures, but in person is not clean, and you cant even see the bottom. I don't know how someone could come here and recommend it, unless you are a native of CR and come here from not too far away, but definitely not something ANYONE should look at coming to for vacation from the US."

"The country is beautiful and the Double Tree hotel was pretty good. It wasnt over the top luxury by any means but perfect for the type of travelers my husband and I are. The staff was pleasant and the food was pretty good. You were given a lot of options and yes, nothing was thrown away. If it wasnt eaten during the prior meal, you would see it again, in a new form, the next day. Personally, we respect the waste nothing attitude. We didnt feel like anything was bad, certainly not spoiled.

My biggest concern, however, was the organized effort to charge all American and European tourists more than the Central American tourists for everything from excursions to taxi rides. The bellhop also refused to tell Americans how to drive to certain sites (only 10 minutes away) so that they could force them to hire a driver for $100 . Obviously, the hotel cannot control what goes on outside of their doors but when employees are a part of this prejudicial treatment, it doesnt sit well..."
