As with most resorts, expectations will influence a review. We arrived April 6 for an 8 day stay. Two families totaling 9 people using 3 rooms. Rooms were large enough with configurations to match the occupancy. Requested rooms away from the central stage to be out of earshot from the performances at night. Got the rooms we requested. (Decent enough performances with some crowd participation). The beach was not white, but a beige sand, but still a quality beach. Our families spent time at bo... Read more

First of all, Travelocity stated that this hotel was 45 minutes away from Liberia airport when it was actually 4 hours away in car. Then when we get there, nobody helped us with our luggage. Two of the pools were closed for maintenence. The food sucked and I actually got food poisoned on the first day. The hotel is on the beach but the beach was terrible. Way too many rocks and the waves were way too strong to even get in the water. I will say that the hotel workers were pleasant, however beside... Read more

We stayed here for three days and two nights. It was 6 adults, a 16 year old and a 5 year old. The reception didn't let us know about the one day complimentary wifi code, the all inclusive portion of drinks were all watered down and second rate no-name beer (not Imperial, Pilsen, or Bavaria), the food was basic to poor. The food variety was not great at all except for breakfast. The breakfast was great. The staff at the toucan and at the snack bar were not friendly and unwilling to help unless p... Read more

We loved Barcelo Tambor Beach Resort. The food was great with lots of variety and staff were very friendly and helpful, even with my limited Spanish. Everything was very clean and I would recommend some additional tours booked through the resort customer service desk. We did the ATV tour and Curu National Park. The people of Costa Rica are very friendly and we wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Looking forward to next time. Pura Vida!

It has pretty much everything. Beach, big pool with swim up Bar(included), Lots good food choicesall included good or very good, Many activities, golf for cart only, More bars, Etc, Very pretty property also. Every night has entertainment also. Now I asked for King Bed and got one. They were only using one or two areas of hotel in slower season, I did not ask for room with Ocean or Pool view. I did ask to be near pool and was very close to that. So was happy. I is Large property and s... Read more

Ok not 5 star but that should be reserved for Four Seasons. We came back to Tambor Barcelo for 2 weeks May 7 to May 20. Food was good - El Rancho lamb excellent. Staff was super. Check in very easy - our deal getting reservation via Barcelo web site included wifi - and it worked fine most of time. Buffet good, beach great - lots of mini crabs and sea birds and great warm water - room good and clean. Barceló hotels is a big chain in which you expect some type of excellence, good customer service, good food and a nice stay. The price is high considering the quality of the products, food, drinks and infrastructure. There are long lines to ask for food considering is an all inclusive system, it's crawly and the customer service is the worst. I was expecting more, not as much as a 5 star hotel but at least something decent. There are more humble hotels in which you are treated better for a lowe... Read more

Barcelo was nice and clean. The food was great. With all that said, nothing would be possible without the incredible staff. We were the only Americans we saw in a week and Guido, the GM and Edwin the Restaurant Manager treated us like family. We were welcomed with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne for my birthday. They personally made our reservations for the ala carte restaurants, etc. We normally do not do all inclusive resorts but we are totally glad we did, otherwise we would no... Read more

I want to get the negative out of the way first, Getting to this resort was terrible. Appoximately an hour and a half of driving over rough mountainous cobblestone roads that were not well kept and very narrow. A little dangerous. If you can afford to land at the small landing strip a mile away from the resort, DO THAT. Alright now for the good. This place is by far in the most gorgeous and secluded location you could ask for. If you like natural beauty this place is chalk full of it. Its locate... Read more

Pictures don't do this resort justice. The grounds are absolutely breath taking. The rooms were very clean and provided a great view. Staff was friendly. Pools were awesome. Beach was clean and nice. Sand was not white and a lot of pebbles but that is due to the region it is located in. Our favorite thing was the Macaws. Howler monkeys were there every night. Only thing that was disappointing was the food selection on the buffet. We were there for the off season but they had the same food almost... Read more

I loved this resort!! It's definitely not a 5 star hotel like some sites portray it to be. It is a beautiful place and wonderful to just get away and relax. There are a few cons: most of the food isn't great. It's pretty greasy and the meats are chewy and full of fat. We ate at the steakhouse one night and it was pretty much the same food from the buffet, but plated to look prettier. Not all the food is horrible, though. The omelettes and French toast at breakfast are yummy! So are the nachos an... Read more

The room photos. Not our room. Our room was old and tattered from paint drips on the floor to ceiling tiles falling out in the bathroom to towels that have seen much better days. The phone didn't work. They didn't bother to fix it. They just told us tough. There is a reason all the photos of the pools and beaches are from a long distance. The beach is dirty with cigarette butts and trash. The pool needs basic maintenance from broken tiles to clogged drains. The buffet I can only wish it ever loo... Read more

This hotel has always been one of my favorite places in Cost Rica. It has everything I Need. Air conditioning, hot and cold water, a beautiful beach, activities and tours, nightly entertainment, great food and alcohol! My girlfriend and I spent a week there towards the end of June, and It was great, being the low season for the hotel, it was quiet and peaceful (except for the weekends) we were able to relax and regroup after a couple of busy months. We go to Costa Rica every summer. Something we absolutely look forward to each year is our annual stay at Barcelo Tambor Beach. It is the ONLY thing we repeat year after year. This past visit we were upgraded from an ocean view regular room to an ocean view 2-bedroom suite (which is actually three rooms - the middle room is a living room, with bedrooms on either side). Each of the three rooms has air conditioning (that works extremely well), a full bathroom, closet, desk, mini fridge, chair, TV,... Read more

First of all, I want to say thanks to Edwin and the Staff at the the Japanese Restaurant Miyako for the Top Quality Service provided. We came here for some very needed vacations and my daughters first trip to the beach. The Check In at 12:30 went smooth as possible and the receptionist was very delightful and provided all information needed. We did though have to wait till 3:00 to be able to get into our rooms. I assume that its to tidy the rooms so it was fine with us since we got to enjoy o... Read more

We've had a great vacation here in Costa Rica at the beach. The all inclusive hotel was fabulous. The shows at night we're also fabulous. The service from the personnel is fantastic especially from Luis Andres in the Steak And seafood restaurant. I highly recommend this place to anyone. I also recommend to use the small airplane that lands at the airfield next door, it'll save many hours of time on the road.

Last weekend I visited with family and kids and although we enjoyed our stay, there were a few things I would like to highlight concerning Barcelo Tambor. First, it seems that the hotel is not prepared to host big demand of people as several events were going on in the hotel (marathon contest, quinceanera party, etc) and the response of the personnel was slow and poor; for example it took us around thirty minutes in the line to check in and another thirty to check out. Also, the customer service... Read more

This hotel has a little of everything, The staff was extremely helpful and ensured that we have everything we needed. The only thing is the wi-fi - we paid 20 dollars for two days and was unable to connect. They should be available for free to all guest.

We recently visited Barceló Tambor during a family get-together for Labor Day weekend 2016. We were a group of about 20 people and there were a few ups and downs, but overall a pleasant experience. We arrived at the hotel fairly late (caught the ferry at 5pm), and got to the hotel at around 7:30pm. The check-in process was rather lengthy since for some odd reason the payment couldn't be taken BEFORE actually getting to the hotel. I called about 3+ times, insisting that the payment be taken and ... Read more

My wife and I stayed here for 10 days in August. It was somewhat crowded part of the time, but was only noticeable at the pool. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, especially at sunrise and sunset. The resort practically has an entire cove to itself, with the exception of a small fishing village. The food was excellent. Though there wasn't a huge variety, compared to some mega-resorts, the main dining hall was still quite good. We also ate dinner at El Rancho 3 times, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ... Read more

The resort looks great because they keep it well maintained. If you are travelling during the rainy season, make sure you get a room on the second floor because the first floor rooms will flood if it rains too much. The food is typical resort food. There are plenty of activities provided by the resort. If you are a smoker, you may not want to stay here because you can only smoke on the beach or at the entrance to the lobby.

If you like school cafeteria food and low low shelf drinks and service with an ugly attitude then this is the right place for you! Can't imagine how will give this place a four star rating. The wine is atrocious one type of red white and rose I will bet you have never ever heard the brands they have. And by the way there is no choice in them if you want run there is only one type. No choices at all.

It gets quite crowded during national holidays, but in mean time there is much less people. It's quite busy thou, because the hotel is big (capacity is about 1000 people). Big pools, free and delicious food.
