Yes the ride out to Rio Perdido is unpaved, bumpy, and rough; however, that keeps the number of guests to a minimum (there are only 20 rooms) - so don't let the ride discourage you! As soon as you arrive, the sweeping views of the mountains are gorgeous and at night, the evening stars are fabulous. The resort has some unique aspects - the hot springs, the canyon zip lining, and the tubing - unfortunately the tubing was not available when we were there due to the intense hurricane they had a mon... We stayed at this hotel for 3 days, and were happy with everything. The hotel food was great, the employees were very friendly...Mario was helpful with his tour of the property and Martinez was great with the zip lining experience and Diego at the pool bar was very nice. The rooms were very nice and I liked that it was secluded and you had so much to do at the property...hiking, thermal springs, spa, and zip lining...or just relaxing at the pool! I would definitely return and would highly reco... Read more

If you are looking for a place to escape, this is it! From the thermal springs, hiking trails to the hotel pools, all are top notch. Also, the zip lining is a must do! The staff at Rio Perdido was by far the friendliest of any place we visited while in Costa Rica. Thanks to Mario, Diego, Martinez and the rest of the zip lining crew for making our visit one that we will never forget!

I'll start by saying this is one of the only places in the world I have ever left and felt truly sad to be leaving - not because I have to go back to work, or because my vacation was over - but because the people and the surroundings of this place are truly inspiring. My wife and I stayed from January 2nd to 10th, 2017 and one of the concerns we had prior to booking, for as long as we did, was would we 'get bored' or run out of food choices as some of the other reviewers have commented. To put... Read more

Many other reviewers accurately describe this "paradise" so I will not repeat the details other than to corroborate what they have said and emphasize that the thermal springs, the spectacular canyon scenery during the zip-lining mountain adventure, the gorgeous open air setting overlooking the canopy, the luxurious "spa" amenities, the fun/rugged/adventurous mountain biking trails, and the friendly and eager-to-please staff made our family trip very memorable. The lagoon like hot springs (ther... Read more

My family and I just got back from Rio Perdido, and we truly fell in love with everything about this property! We are world travellers and stay in many 5 star properties, and I can truly say Rio Perdido has jumped to the top of our favorites list! From the 1st phone call with Roy to make my reservation, I knew we would be in the best of hands. He was warm and kind and it set the tone for what was to come at this very special hotel. Not only is it in one of the most breathtaking spots on earth,... Read more

There is something with the weather passing around the volcano that allows a high desert plains kind of feel to this hidden gem of Costa Rica. Mountain biking & a zip line / canyoning tour that rivals the Central Mountains. Cant wait to get back;

PROS -excellent service from everyone-they care (ex. taking time to learn about our interests, picking us up in a golf cart from the parking lot when arriving late from a day trip even so it was not requested, making sure our daughter was having fun, sincere conversations, researching information about things we were interested in like identifying lizard eggs etc, the chef baking something special, waiters bringing us fruit from home (I think it was Luis), Mario is not just a superb manager of g... Wow! This place! We were impressed from the moment my parents and I stepped out of our car. We were greeted by Mario and Eric with cool washcloths and refreshing drinks. They took care of our luggage and escorted us to the main lodge to relax while they finished the check-in process. LODGING: Each private cabin is located a short walk from the main lodge. If the walk is too long for you, the staff have a golf cart waiting to drive you to and fro. The small details are what separates this pl... Read more

This is a beautiful facility in the middle of nowhere. Staff was amazingly gracious in a hurricane - a first for Costa rica. I am sure that it is an amazing place when the weather is good. Food was very good. Atmosphere lovely. Cool rooms.
