Canyon de La Vieja Lodge takes the possible industry environmental repercussions very seriously. The main reason to offer this information is to enable putting different processes, as well as mechanisms, products and behavior patterns into practice that will allow us to continue protecting the environment. Among the strategies they have adopted, you will find the following programs:
  • Separation of waste and recycling: The project includes the hotel and nearby school. Together with guests, they have begun to separate recyclable material from the waste and take it to a center where a group of women process and sell it.
  • Use of eco-friendly products: They have eliminated the use of chemicals in our laundry and some others areas that tend to use highly contaminating chemicals.
  • Sponsorship and assistance with the Curubande School to obtain the Blue Ecological Flag: This award is given to institutions that offer a place appropriate for education. It also takes into account not only the instruction of children in their regular assignments, but also teaching our children to take care of the environment and society.
  • Educational programs: Together with the University of Costa Rica and two other hotels, they have initiated an educational project in 5 different schools. These programs are based on the correct use and importance of our resources such as water, earth and natural energy, among others.

The bungalow was nice, we had number 36 on an edge of the terrible road. Nice and quiet. Airco, WIFI! refrigerator and small coffeemaker, very nice. Two small double beds. Nice terrace. Nice swimmingpool. Diner on the first night was bad, we don't like to complain, but the tomatosoup was terrible salt and the rest was eatible. The next day diner was a buffet, because there came a bus of dutch people. Then the food was much better! What we did not like, was that we booked tubing on the thirth ay ... Read more

Upon our pm arrival, we wanted to leave. The room was not impressive and were frustrated we had pre-paid a rate of over $100. However, it was late and our options were few. We stayed and enjoyed our stay so much - we plan on returning on our next trip to Costa! Once we occupied the room, we found it to be one of the cleanest rooms of our stay in Costa. The floors were spotless - which pleased my 7 month old crawler! Don't get me wrong - the rooms are spartan and very plain. It's very much... Read more

Our lodge was clean, had airco, plenty of space. Unfortunately the rooms did smell mouldy if the airco was turned off. We also found some of glass plates missing in the windows which means you can turn the airco on but the hot air is flowing into the room anyway. Luckily we their are sufficient nets in front of the window so you won't get any insects in the room. The resort is quite big, which makes it less cosy. Especially when you have a larger facility it would be nice to be able to move arou... Read more

While the location is lush, green and beautiful, we had a negative experience on the tours they offer. We went for an all day adventure package, that we were unable to complete. We did zipling and lunch. On the next activity, horseback riding, our daughter was bucked off a horse and sprained her wrist. While accidents happen, this could have been easily avoided had the guide not been so inept. He never spoke a word to anyone. Never even showed any concern for my 11 year old daughter. Instead, he... Quite isolated location so unless have transport or take a taxi to Liberia not able to go elsewhere at night. Rooms ok but due to gap in wooden chalet type ceiling directly over the bed, spent a lot of the night removing large ants from bed covers! Only fine mesh on windows and quite a few insects get through. I don't mind but some folk might! The bar and pool area is very nice, tropical plants and trees surround it and lovely spa pools at the bottom by river. I sat and watched beautiful butterf... Read more

A group of 8 of us were there just for the day. We did the zip lining and the spa mud bath, and our favorite, inter-tube ing down the river! We had fantastic guides that took care of us while we had a day of adrenaline highs!!

We only stayed here one night. Our room was of a very good and spacious size. Located in a park like area it was nice. Beds were comfortable, bathroom of good size and clean! Pool area with bar was really nice. We had a nice time relaxing! We didn't have dinner here, we went into the village. We had dinner in Liberia itself and went out there. Breakfast was good with enought to choose from and nice view over the canyon. There is also a bridge there you can cross and have some nice views.

We had the best time during the Mega Combo tour. We started out horseback riding down to the river where we did white water tubing (this is a lot crazier than rafting, trust me!), zip lining and then finally to a mud bath with mineral spas. I have never pecked so much adventure into 1 day. It was amazing. All the guides were awesome and very helpful. I would recommend this to anyone in decent physical condition that is looking for everything from relaxation to pee adrenaline rush. I have nothing... Read more

The map of the lodge does not fit to reality. After reception asked for help with the luggade we denied and tried to walk to our lodge,... bad mistake the way is not paived full of big stones and the sidewalk is not big enough, so i scratched my suitcase badly... also the cleaning service uses this way. The room looked nice but the... Read more

We booked this tour from Gecko Tours at Riu beach. We paid $130 a person for a private tour - two people. Our guide was Christian. The ziplining is fine, but the real action is the white water tubing through the rapids. The rappelling is one section of rock about 30 feet down and then you climb up to the same spot. You can kayak the water instead and that would be the better option because you would be able to control your movements. These are level 2 and sometimes 3 or 4 rapids. We wer... Read more
