We stayed at the lodge during our honeymoon. Getting there was an adventure itself :-). The rooms were ok but not great - especially in the bathroom there was a bad smell from the canal. The food is incredibly expensive and of not very good quality. Wifi was provided but apart from the reception not working very well. The breakfast was ok but also not great. The hot springs are amazing and for free - definitely a visit worth. Still I wouldn't stay in this hotel again.

Heck of a trip from Liberia, but it is nice to be away from everything. Only food options are on-site and not a lot of snack options throughout the day. We brought some snacks with us, which were great to have. Breakfast was great!! They could use some more staff during lunch/dinner service. I was a little concerned with no A/C, but it gets pretty cool in the nights and was happy to have some blankets. Sunset Bar is a great place to be in the evenings. Great sunset and great drinks. This lodge is on a working ranch up a bumpy unpacked road - luxury it is not! However, it does provide perfectly adequate food and lodging in the back woods, and meets high Eco standards, right down to making its own cleaning materials. Cabins are rustic but clean, with hot water and fans. There is no air conditioning but the rooms cool off at night because of the altitude, so this is not problematic. We had a couple of iguanas living in our patch of garden, and motmots in abundance overhead. ... Read more

We had great time during our stay and I would definitely recommend for people with kids 4.5 year old and up. We have 2 children - 4.5 and 8 and we stayed at the lodge for 5 nights at the end of March. The length of our stay turned out to be perfect because we had time to do all the activities at the lodge, plus we went to Rincon de la Vieja nacional park for 1 day (the Paillas section), and for one day the kids were sick with some stomach bug but we still managed to do cow-milking in the afte... We stayed at Buena Vista for two nights. Our room had a beautiful view of the lake, was very spacious and clean. Food was great, it was fresh and authentic. All the staff members were super friendly and accommodating. We also did the combo tour which included horse back riding, thermal springs, water slide, zip lining, hanging bridges, and lunch. The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly. The views from the bar are exquisite! Highly recommended for a short adventure packed getaway.

My husband and I visited Buena Vista Lodge only for one night. It was part of a coupon program. It is located in a wonderful place named Cañas Dulces with beautiful sightseeing. The hotel has nice rustic rooms in the middle of a farm. The pool near reception is pretty, although it has cold water and it was all closed at evening. There isn't a lot to do at night, except for visiting the 'sightseeing bar'. I highly recommend you to put on repelent, because mosquitoes are voracious. The dinner... Read more

We went for a day trip for a great hike on the property and birding. We were quite fortunate to have Ian Orozco as our guide, which made the experience very enjoyable and special. He was quite knowledgeable and friendly and had great spotting skills. We were thrilled with all the birds we saw including three species of motmots and toucans!!! During the hike we also had the opportunity to swim in one of the three waterfalls that we saw. After the hike we were able to relax in the sauna and therma... Read more

I stayed here on a group tour and I loved the surroundings! Right outside the cabin the trees and plants were full of singing birds in the morning. Although there wasn't air conditioning, it was not needed at night because the cool breeze felt wonderful! I loved the sustainability of the entire place--they made their own soap, and grew their own food, and used the compost to make gas for the cooking. The students loved the zipline and the hot springs were relaxing. The sunset bar was a beauti... Read more

I enjoyed that everything was in one place - zipline, hiking, water slide, hot springs, hanging bridges, good food, afternoon coffee, pool. Everyone was so nice. And the view from the sunset bar is on of a kind.

The Buena Vista Lodge is incredible. It was a former ranch and farm that now provides an incredible experience for travelers to see the "country" of Costa Rica and learn about sustainability first hand. The lodge has a lot of horses for great horseback riding adventures around the area. It also boasts a 'soap making' lab in which it recycles used oils and burned materials into real soap that is distributed widely and used for a variety of purposes. The lodge has a natural water slide and vo... Read more

I stayed here for a couple nights in June 2016, for work (EF Tours). Pros: -There is so much to do! The place used to be a ranch, and it's a sprawling property that is also really walkable. They have zip-lining, water slides, pools, etc. Also, as the name suggests - really good views of Rincon de la Vieja. The hot springs were a huge highlight as well! It's also an eco-lodge, and they are doing a lot around the lodge to be sustainable. -The rooms are neat - sort of cabin-like and rustic. They w... Read more

We loved the hanging bridges, with plenty of monkey and coati sightings, the water coaster, and the hot springs! The hot springs were a highlight of the lodge, but you can only get there with the lodge tractor at certain times of the day. They are amazing! The hotel lodging was fair. Nothing fancy. Lots of European tourists staying there. I was surprised our first night, it was packed, but then very few people there the 2nd night. The pool was nice. This place is great. Every single employee is nice and helpful. I was here in March 2015 by myself and then brought my two teenage sons back in August 2016 (16 and 19 yo). We loved it. Food is so-so. Tours are very good and pretty reasonable. If you are not a regular horse back rider, do yourself a favor and do the 75 minute ride to one water fall and not the 3.5 hour ride to three waterfalls. Zip lining, hot springs, tractor rides, hanging bridges, horseback it all. If you... Read more

Decent swimming pool nice suspension brdge tour. On second day we took a horseback riding to forest spa and that is just one crazy places you must see. In the evening beautiful sunset... I have been here twice, it is a fun bumpy ride up to the lodge. The lodge is a rustic working ranch with horses you can ride, ziplining through the jungle and a fun waterslide. The pool has a little swim up bar, the food and drink are a little pricey for what it is but to experience the off coast Costa rica this place is fun. The rooms were clean and simple. This lodge has a huge "garden/park" with free hanging bridges. Super nice to walk there and searching for toucans. You can have several activities like canopy and waterslide. The lodge is long way from eateries, so you're stuck with having a meal at the lodge. Food at the lodge was good. You could eat from the buffet as well as a la card.

it is secluded but its well worth it, we had a good time for the 3 nights we spent there, staff is friendly, the place is beautiful, well kept, lots of activities to do, not too much variety of food, overprice for the food, and no other choices, but I still comeback for some more fun!!!

A very good place for a quick stay. Quite inexpensive and the hot springs and hike to waterfall are terrific. Cabin we had was noisy and right by pool. Okay for one night but if I was staying longer I would definitely pay more and get a cabin away from main area. Watching the sunset at the bar was beautiful.

We made a reservation and did not quite know what to expect. We were really surprised by the nice little house that our room was, great views, an amazing spa (!!) and a good restaurant ( try the seabass!!) with very friendly staff. Clean spacious room, two big beds The only disadvantage I can mention is the distance to Rincon NP. (Make sure you also walk to the waterfalls there, if you are fit to hike!)

Incredible view from the sunset bar. Horses, water slide, waterfall and much more. Great breakfast included. The hot springs were the best we've ever seen. On a scale of 1-5, they get a 10. No kids under 6, with good reason, but there were "almost tears." Coffee tasting and purchase of a pound of whole bean dark roast. Buffet lunch was OK. You have an option of just day tripping here - to use their facilities - and I think that is a very good option. I stayed here two nights - the rooms are OK - but NOISY. Zero soundproofing, no TV's, phones etc - which was fine for me. The food is expensive, and not great. So if I did this again - I would stay in Liberia where I could walk around and find a restaurant - rather than being stranded out here with only this option. As for the attractions - the ones I wanted to use were closed - ... Read more
