The property does not have a view of the volcano as advertised nor are the rooms fully complete. No bathroom mirrors, glasses in the room, or adequate lighting. Reservation processing confusing and wifi almost impossible. Parking a real problem as is dirt road to the property.

I stayed at Lavas del Arenal for one night since I was coming for a wedding nearby. They charged us $175 for one room with two beds. A room that shouldn't had been more that $90, since it is very very poor. It has a tiny air conditioner that is not enough to cool the whole area and not enough windows that you can open to use natural air. The bathroom is big, but has no place to hang towels or put your belongings. They only offer you liquid soap on a dispenser on the wall, no shampoo or anything ... Read more

Positives: mostly friendly staff, free breakfast, the room is clean when you get it Negatives: the food here is TERRIBLE! Pretty much the only reason we ate the breakfast was because it was free and conveniently located steps from our room. Nobody ever cleaned our rooms after we got there, we had to ask for new towels twice before being given them, the pool was full of dead bugs, the hotel's kind of in the middle of nowhere so cabs to town and back were roughly $15 or more each time...the list ... We did this as a group on it was what was expected from online. Its not an extravagant resort but they booked so much fun stuff for us we weren't there but at night. The room was ALWAYS cleaned and ready. We liked the vibe if your going to sit around a resort drinking drinks all day not the place for you.But if looking for adrenaline in costa rica they set it all up for you. Didn't have to worry about anything but showing up front to catch the ride they scheduled.

this hotel came with our groupon. We had a great time but the hotel was a little less than we were hoping for. No one spoke English, at all. So communication with times for our tours, paying, etc was very difficult even with the little Spanish we could speak. Next there is no real restaurant..it is just one person and a grill. The food is manageable but for what you pay, the food in the city is WAY better...and that's the other thing, you cannot walk to la fortuna...you have to take a taxi. This... Read more

We first set eyes on Lavas Del Arenal after a crazy long drive from the airport in San Jose. It was gorgeous, secluded but at the same time accessible to the town in 10 minutes by cab. Kathia was so lovely and helpful. She organized our trip to the beach in Jaco and gave us advice about where to go and where to stay! She was always available at the front desk and answered all our questions and made sure we were loving our stay! The breakfast was authentic, now if you are use to a big American br... Read more

We loved our stay at the Hotel Lavas de Arenal. It is a very simple resort, but it is a beautiful setting. The rooms have all you should need for a Costa Rican Adventure trip and they are incredible at helping book any activity you could want in the area. They provide a nice breakfast every morning. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is helpful to know some Spanish, but without it you can survive. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

My girlfriend and I just got back from an 8 night 9 day trip to Costa Rica where we stayed in 3 different hotels ranging from the country side, beach side and the inner city. We are 29 and 28 years of age and are adventure seekers not party seekers. I have to say that Hotel Lavas del Arenal was easily our favorite. The hotel is tucked away so if you enjoy a little privacy after a long day of adventure this is is a perfect place for that. The hotel itself is gorgeous. It has a very nice pool th... Read more

My friend and I purchased a Groupon which included an awesome adventure package consisting of zip lining, rafting, hot springs, etc. and a 4 night stay at Hotel Lavas. When we arrived to the hotel we were greeted by the receptionist, Katya, who we fell in love with from the beginning. Although we didn't speak much spanish, and she spoke even less English, she worked so hard to throughly answer any questions we had by using her computer, writing down information, or drawing pictures. She was so f... Read more

Basic amenities in the room but it was a nice place to stay. Our groupon included breakfast which was eggs, rice/beans, fruit and bread everyday. Eat in the town as I heard dinner there is over priced. Staff was friendly but only spoke Spanish. I would go back!

I stumbled upon Hotel Lavas del Arenal due to a Groupon I had purchased. I was a bit nervous at first purchasing a Groupon vacation but I was completely blown away by how great this vacation was. Hotel Lavas Del Arenal was perfect for what I was looking for. They have authentic breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast was normally eggs, beans and rice, a couple pieces of bread, and some fresh fruit. However, they did give us the option a few days for pancakes which were delicious. Dinn... Read more

We stayed at Hotel Lavas del Arenal as part of a Groupon deal. As the title says, I have mixed feelings about our expirience, so I will just list some pro's and con's we came across. Pros: Most of the staff were very kind and eager to help. Breakfast is made to order. Room service cleans rooms daily and leaves cool towel art with flower petals. Pretty location with a pool, foosball and pool tables, and a resteraunt on site. Tours were pre-booked with our Groupon and easy to upgrade. Remote and ... Read more

Even though is not one of the other fancy (expensive) hotels of the area, this one gave me a great experience, which gladly I would go back again without hesitation. Personnel is highly friendly and the room since first impression looks very nice with microwave, mini-fridge, flat screen TV (I didnā??t use), a small but efficient AC unit and a clean nice bathroom. Thanks for a nice experience!

The rooms are clean. Very friendly service. Staff is always willing to answer any questions and have a great attitude. Katarina is the manager on staff and is one of the most acomidating managers we've met in a long time. Highly recommend.

There is a serious problem with communication with this company. We found them on Groupon and spoke to Mario before booking. Everything seemed fine until we paid. We received an itinerary with the wrong dates. It took multiple calls and emails to get the dates changed. The dates were finally changed the night before we left. I donā??t think it is too much to expect to have confirmation of a ride and a hotel prior to traveling to a foreign country. Especially when you are required to... Read more

Got this trip as a gift and before we booked our flight, we should of done our research of this place. Booking the trip was easy and convenient. The hotel driver (for additional charge) was on time and greeted us upon arrival. Did not realize the travel to the hotel would take close to 2 hours of sketchy driving. Upon arrival greeted by Mario who was as nice as can be, informed us of our package and let us know about things to do around La Fortuna (the main town). Our rooms were not ready y... Read more

We did an adventure tour through Groupon and so we had no selection for the hotel but were so pleased with this place. The staff was AMAZING! Although our Spanish was horrible, they were so helpful in trying to accommodate all our needs. One of the ladies even helped do some laundry before we left because we were running low on clean clothes. They would arrange cabs into town for us as well. Breakfast staff were amazing and the pool was very nice. Nothing super fancy but the people made it such ... Read more
