Resort Details

The hotel is born and develops organically from the core of the owner`s original and charming Hacienda House, extending into new wings with ample comfortable rooms, carefully designed and decorated to recall the surrounding nature sanctuary but also the authentic ranch lifestyle and ``sabanero`` or cowboy traditions of a typical Guanacaste hacienda.

And if you are looking to go beyond with the wellness experience, get a professional massage at extraordinary settings or join any of the inspirational yoga sessions.

Accommodation Details

All rooms feature fine amenities of a high-end Eco-boutique Hotel, such as A/C, Cable/ Satellite TV with a LCD, telephone, mini fridge, safety box, Fee WiFi and most of them with inviting balconies and awesome views over the lowlands of this famous Pampa and protected wetlands.

This is a very modern hotel that's been open for less than two years. I was delighted with our bedroom, and in particular the massive bed. There was a balcony with a lovely view of the estate, which was great for watching the sun rise in the morning. The standard of food was also very high and, considering that you get two of three courses for lunch and three for dinner, we felt the portion sizes were just right. Breakfast could have been improved with some bread and jam/marmalade IMO. We had t... Read more

First Rancho Humo Estancia is a first class and very small hotel, so only little people. The rooms are spacious and have all you wish. The attention is very personal and the food is really delicious, you can tell your wishes and you will be satisfied. They have a small pool voor the swimmers between us, but the highlight of this place are the wetlands around. A greater paradise for birders I don´t know in Costa Rica and during my second visit I saw tons of all kind of waterbirds. I live in Cost... Read more

We are avid Costa Rican birders and Rancho Humo was perfect for us! It is a paradise for birdwatchers. The property is beautiful and you can tell how committed the staff is with making the Hotel an outstanding one. The rooms are spacious, perfectly detailed, clean, quiet, great beds and amazing views. Sunrises are beyond words at Rancho Humo. We are Hotel owners and it made us feel very proud to see and enjoy the Costa Rican hospitality and the essence of our beloved Guanacaste in Rancho Humo. We stayed at Rancho Humo from Dec 31, 2016 to Jan 3, 2017. Three beautiful nights with wonderful accommodations, service and food. The staff are extremely eager to please and accommodate every request. There was a new manager, Raymundo (Ray), who had been working there for just 10 days but did everything he could to ensure the guests' had a pleasurable stay and got to see and do as many tours as possible. Ray even ended up driving us to the Barra Honda National Parks caving tour and went on the ... Read more

Rancho Humo is beautifully designed to give a homely, family-like atmosphere based on a traditional Guanacaste estate ranch. It is situated on a very large private estate that not only farms cattle but has a huge wetlands area that is freely open to visitors. Indeed, visitors get a complimentary 90-minute tour of the wetlands on a 4-wheel drive truck. We were so impressed with what we saw ?? roseate spoonbills, woodstorks, 5 jabirus, many, many herons of various kinds, several different egrets... Read more

I had my cousin visiting from Germany, who wanted to visit a special place in Costa Rica. She has already visited Costa Rica before so she had already done all the usual sightseeing. I discovered Rancho Humo through a friends FB page and after our second night here I am pretty amazed. Not only is the hotel a jewel, the rooms comfortable, the service impecable and the food exquisite, but the whole area is breathtaking. We took the river tour today, and saw countless species of birds, apes and... Read more

This is a newly-established hotel/lodge which really deserves to succeed. It's a very special place to stay, in an isolated location on the edge of the Palo Verde reserve, surrounded by wetlands and farmland. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and many of them have fabulous views over the expansive countryside (the same is true of the outdoor pool). The staff made every imaginable effort to make us feel completely at home, and really made the effort to get to know us even during quite a short ... Read more

We stayed for a couple of nights as part of our honeymoon in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and wished we could have stayed longer. Rooms are lovely, location amazing, and staff brilliant - they all went out of their way to make sure we had a fantastic time and felt completely at home. We arrived early afternoon, a bit earlier than expected, so they rustled up some fresh fruit, beautifully presented, to keep us going until dinner time. They had filled our room with flowers, petals, scented candles an... Read more

Some of the best wildlife viewing around - especially if you like birds. First we did the boat trip. It was so exciting to see the masses of wood storks and roseate spoonbills nesting on their island, and then the numerous crocodiles slipping in and out of the water on the next island along. All along the banks of the river there were different sorts of herons, egrets, etc, and glimpses of monkeys and coatis. The ranch itself was great fun, and although the only child we had with us was 25, we a... Read more
