"This is place is a little piece of heaven. My best friend and I went for two weeks and I can honestly say that may have been a little too long, but 10 days would have been just right. Anyways, I was afraid to book this spot because of the reviews I read online. However, I can honestly say the reviews must have been written by people who like to frequent Hawaii. Costa Rica is a rustic 2nd world country; thus, if you want white sand beaches or air conditioned shops--go to Tamarindo Beach instead. It's only an hour and a half away, but it is more Americanized than this resort. Now, let me highlight this place because for us, it was exactly what we needed.n1. The beach is black sand due to all the volcanoes which I recommend doing the tour to Arenal--it's an all day thing, but to save money and time, rent a car from resort for $80 for the day.n2. A taxi to this place from airport cost $70 and a taxi back to airport from resort is $60. There is no shuttle so be prepared.n3. The alcohol is not top shelf; however, if you want to pay $4 a drink you can buy a better quality of alcohol. Nonetheless, what they serve there is great especially their local rum Cacique. Also, I would recommend Pura Vida drinks, they were our favorites as well as Imperial beer, so good!!!n4. We saw the monkeys three times while we were there. We usually saw them in the afternoon. Don't worry everyone will begin to shuffle to the beach so you will know they are there. They are the white faced monkeys which are apparently rare to see in Costa Rica; holler monkey's are the most assailable.n5. The food at the buffet is good, but I would not bother with their restaurants. It's the same food, but prepared a bit differently--we were disappointed with both the Italian and Mexican. Though we heard people complain that the food was not good after a few days, it is what you make of it. If you don't try something else, you may be disappointed.n6. Bring bug spray and lots of it.n7. The resort offers a free boat ride to a private island and food and drinks are included. You leave at like 9:45 and come back about 3. We saw a rattlesnake killed by a local, jellyfish and a lot of other creatures. It was really exciting. However, though they say it's 'white' sand, don't expect the Caribbean because it is not.n8. Get out of the resort. It is isolated so it's very important to book tours such as: zip-lining, ATV's, horseback riding, tubing, the volcano (Arenal), snorkeling (we saw two sets of dolphins, Nicaraguan and Costa Rican), Tamarindo Beach and Coco Beach (this is very rustic) and try the local food as well.n9. Wi-fi is $25 for your entire stay, but you only get it in the pool, restaurant and bar.n10. Finally, just relax. It's a beautiful place and if you want the hustle and bustle--then stay away. Costa Rican's do not worry about time here. It's really laid back and some people do not like that--be honest with yourself if you want an intense vacation than plan activities daily while your here, but don't complain about this place because it really was unreal with amazing staff!!!nnnnn"
