Resort Details

Down comforters top the beds, marble shines in the bathrooms, and 37-inch flat-screen TV`s are mounted on the tranquilizing, cream-colored walls. The sizable balconies are excellent for curling up with a good book or simply marveling at the resort`s extensive back yard.

The service, rooms and food were typically exceptional JW Marriott! I was part of a Caravan Tour and I was very happy this stop was included in the tour of Costa Rica! The grounds and rooms were outstanding! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful! The food variety, freshness and quality at every meal was amazing! Very very relaxing visit!

Our party of 7 arrived late and tired to the best service with extra touches to sooth the stress of the trip. In the dark the property was really nice, but it took our breath away once we woke up and say everything. Fabulous rooms and incredible food at all three of the restaurants where we ate. One of our party didn't pack enough and they picked up her laundry and had it back in just over an hour. This was our last stop and other than a sunset sailing cruise we just relaxed and enjoyed this... Read more

This property is absolutely amazing! From check in to check out, the entire experience is great. The problem lied with NO warning on sand bugs or whatever insect is on the beach that attacks you as soon as you reach the water. I have bites up and down my legs as well as my arms! I have a brown skinned complexion with bright red bites on my legs. So frustrating as it puts a damper on our visit. Food and service at this property is definitely marriott standard! We stayed six nights here recently. I read some other reviews that said this place won't upgrade you. As a gold member, I was hoping they'd upgrade us to an ocean view room, but despite being practically the only couple at the hotel for several days after we arrived, no such luck. The Service: Amazing. The room attendants were outstanding, everything spotless and organized every time we entered the room with plenty of towels, soap, and complimentary water bottles. We loved staying here. What a beautiful, classy resort. Wonderful staff, gorgeous setting, the pool and grounds are very clean and well-kept. We would stay here again! The fruit plate was so incredible we ordered it on three separate days - along with their fantastic coffee. Our room was so beautiful and comfortable: we had a soaker tub along with a shower and were able to enjoy the beautiful patio with a view of the pool and the ocean. It wasn't noisy being next to the pool because they have a ... Read more

This property is typical for a JW Marriott. First class with a scenic property right on the beach. Pool is stunning, beach is pretty and property is manicured to perfection. You can tell this place is very well managed as staff remembers your name, stand aside when you walk by and give you nice words of welcome and always willing to answer questions and help. The food is typical of Marriott but not Costa Rica. Still great, and of course over priced, but not representative of the local culture. ... Read more

Going for a work trip in the off season, it was hard to know what to expect. The drive from Liberia airport is 90 minutes, so steel yourself for some boredom, as there's not much to look at. The hotel itself is not huge, but just the right size for a beach side resort. The hotel is very far from the town, in case you like to walk to town from the hotels. The staff is super responsive. Stayed here in early May with my family, it exceeded our expectations! Beyond beautiful and the service is top notch. Always things for the family to do and the food is great. Staff is so accommodating and treat everyone so well. The all inclusive is the way to go, and they don't cheat you in anyway. Loved our stay there and I highly recommend it.

The Resort is beautiful just like the pictures. Other than our dealings with the resorts (non-affiliated) concierges team (which the resort failed to tell us until we received horrible service in which they denied assisting us). The Power was lost multiple times in one night and early morning during our stay. Overall the Resort is beautiful, clean and the location is great if you would like to shuttle back and forth to tamarindo. The food is great as well.

This was resort was beautiful and clean. Our room was awesome and large with beautiful woodwork. The large pool was fun with an infinity edge, pool volleyball and plenty of seating poolside. We enjoyed the food, the Spanish class, and the garden pool hammocks. Service was excellent at the garden pool. This is not my first stay at this property but this stay was definitely the worst. As a frequent flier, one learns to make the little mistakes not bother you but this hotel is too inconsistent. If you are an elite member (platinum) of Marriott, forget about all the perks because they will simply not honor any. Employees do try hard but they just don't get it. Dining experiences are limited. Great resort, worthy of the JW branding. The resort has everything you need, including 4-5 on site restaurants. Top notch customer service. However it is set off by itself from any other attractions or things to do. And the beach in front of the resort is very rocky. You'll need to walk down a ways to find swimmable areas. The beach in front of Lola's is very nice but about a 2 mile walk. They have a surfer/locals scene going on there and it is worth visiting.

Visiting in July and is not packed so restaurants are easy to get into....I recommend that you look online to book your excursions you get a better deal and a better experience than going through the hotel. The JW Marriott Guanacaste is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay and our honeymoon was better off because of it. The resort is in a very secluded location, within Hacienda Pinilla. You have to pass through a secure gate off the main road and drive about another 15 minutes to get there. With that being said, you definitely get the feeling of relaxation and privacy while you're there. The rooms are decorated beautifully with rustic decor and gorgeous black and white photography of the local ... Read more

This hotel is nicely located on a picturesque stretch of beach. The grounds are well manicured and are enjoyable to walk through. I really enjoyed the pool area with hot tubs as well as the fitness center. The front area of the hotel had numerous hammocks which was really relaxing. The food was excellent including room service and the rooms were clean, spacious and equipped with great AC.

Beautiful resort! Get your pool chair early that faces the ocean. Small area of beach you can actually swim in because of big rocks. Have a car to travel around because expensive to take the shuttle, and the road to resort is very rough. Loved our suit, very updated and nicely decorated. Food gets expensive if you eat all meals at resort.

It's nice hotel but wasn't thrilled about the location. The beach was ok with rocky floor. Pool was ok - no slides, no features... We got a ocean facing room but the ocean seemed like a mile away. Cannot hear the waves. There were better rooms available but the hotel didn't give them - not sure why. Won't repeat.

The large pool area is beautiful and is the highlight of the resort. Plenty of lounge chairs were available at all times. The beach is rocky and the surf is too much for most people who just want to wade in (e.g. waist deep) and feel the waves. There is a narrow strip marked by buoys which is calmer (no breaking waves). I found the food to be excellent throughout the resort. In particular, I enjoyed the Asian restaurant; I met the new Pilipino chef who was eager to accommodate my dietary wi... Read more

We stayed at the JW Marriott in early August 2016 for 3 nights. We were a family of 4 with 2 kids (8 year and 12 year old) and had a pool view room right next to the pool. We initially had booked ourselves for 6 nights at the resort - but after talking to others who had been to Costa Rica before - decided to cut short our stay at the Marriott to 3 days only and instead explored other parts of Costa Rica. The consensus from everybody we talked to was that it would be a waste to stay in one place... Read more

Beautiful hotel with nicely appointed rooms. Enjoyed the outdoor hammocks throughout the shared spaces in the hotel. Enormous pool, fun for the kids. However, hotel is too big and too busy.
