"We had an amazing 12- day stay at the Hilton Papagayo Resort and Spa. We travelled in August, Costa Rica's winter 'rainy season' and down-season. This turned out to be a great decision since we only had a few days of tropical rain, which left most of the day sunny and enjoyable. As well, the Hotel was not too busy, there was always a spot at the beach or pool, the service was super friendly and personalized ie: waiters would remember our room number and how we liked our coffees in the morning. The shuttle service that they offer to and from your room was fantastic, we never waited more that 5 mins to be transported to our destination. The drivers were responsible and courteous. We traveled with our 17-month old baby so many of the organized excursions were not catered to us, however we did rent a car and did several day-trips including a charming coffee plantation in Hojancha (Cafe Diria) and the paolo verde National park where we saw all sorts of exotic animals: crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, birds, bats, butterflies! Costa Rica has so much to discover, it truely is a nature-lovers paradise, and this will not be our last stay at the Hilton Papgayo."

"The hotel is HORRIBLE. I wouldn't waste my money on this place. You are paying 5 star hotel price and get nothing. Costa Rica is cheap and nice but this place is robbing people blind!! The rooms are not at all what the website states. The food isn't fresh it is all processed crap. The alcohol they serve is so cheap that I couldn't even drink. The drinks were awful and no one had ever heard of this cheap alcohol they were serving. There is nothing Costa Rican about this hotel. You could be in the middle of the united states on a lake. There is no beach view. There is no sunset view or sunrise view. The pool is so dirty that you can not see the bottom. People sit at the outside pool all day and don't get out so you know they use the bathroom in the pool. To get around the hotel property you must ride in the ridiculous trucks. Our driver wrecked three times. You can't go exploring outside the compound. You must pay extra for anything you want to do. If you want to get out of this hotel you have to pay New York City prices instead of costa rican. Everyday activities to get off the hotel ground will cost you between 200.00 to 350.00 for two people. There is nothing to do at this resort except to lay around and grow old. This felt like a horrible cruise!!! Our room got cleaned everyday at 4:30pm. Right when we would get back from doing nothing but wanted to take showers. It was pathetic!!"

"We had a wonderful stay at the Hilton Papgayo in Costa Rica. For an all inclusive we thought the food and service was great. The people who worked there were so nice. The workout room was really nice and the SPA area had it's own really quiet adult only pool and beach area. This hotel is a series of Bungalows spread out over a hill overlooking the water. The sand is black but thats because you are in this part of Costa Rica. We recommend Henry from Tide Water Adventures that we meet on the beach for tours. He is so friendly and knowledgable about Costa Rica and will take you on a private tours for just your family. We did not have our kids with us but they have a very small kids club that might be nice for kids 7 and under."
