Where do I and my wife stayed at the Intercontinental Cartagena (IC) from May 8-11th at the tail end of our two week Colombian vacation. I will say from the get go that this has to be the greatest hotel staff I have come across in my travels. I have status with 3 different hotel chains as well as IHG and have stayed in many hotels across the US and world. I did not meet one employee who seemed like they did not like working there. It started with Jedda (I hope spelling is right) th... Read more

Nice new hotel with very nice rooms, swimming pool and very good service. Good for business but with limited dinning and entertainment options for holidays. Faraway from the old city were most of the restaurants and the nightlife happens.

This is a longish review but if you are familiar with the Intercontinental Hotel benefits and you are loyal to the brand, like we are, you might want to read this. We spent 5 nights here in April. We have stayed at a large number of Intercontinental hotels in the world and we are part of their loyalty programme which we pay an annual fee for (Ambassador members). We booked 5 nights with Executive club benefits which means that we get breakfast, unlimited soft drinks, water and refreshments at t... Read more

I just returned from a two day trip to Cartagena, Colombia. The Intercontinental is a stunningly beautiful hotel. The rooms are gorgeous. Clean, modern, and efficient. The staff are attentive and friendly. I couldn't have asked for a better stay. I didn't get a chance to use the pool but it looked lovely, as well. We had great food in the conference and it was a great location. Phenomenal views from your room. The old town is a quick cab ride away and well worth exploring. The city was sa... Read more

Beautiful hotel, perfect location you can easily walk to almost everywhere in Bocagrande, and 10 min taxi drive to downtown . Just one observation the pool is beautiful but doesn't have any spot for sun protection, not umbrellas or kiosks so you can only stay for just short periods of time if you don't want to get sun burns.

Stayed here for two nights. Everything in the hotel is very new, and modern. The room itself had all you may need, and a well stocked mini-bar. AC worked well. The wall where the TV was mounted was not bolted to the wall, It was kind of swinging back and fourth and exposing the wiring. Not sure if it's designed that way, or if it was just broken. Upon looking at the throw on my bed, and the couch I noticed a good amount of stains. The staff at this hotel weren't the greatest I've experienced. Ev... Read more

Stayed here for a business trip. Conferences were held in the hotel so spent a lot of time here. Staff was pleasant, although service in restaurant was very slow one night. Overall was pleased with my stay. Pool looked great although I didn't get the opportunity to swim in it.

I have stayed in many hotels across the world and I can safely say this is easily the best Hotel so far! The Facilities, Design and most importantly the Service was First Class! It felt more like a Palace than a Hotel and my only regret is that I wish I could have stayed longer! The biggest praise from myself must go to the Front Desk team, especially Eduardo and Daniel who were always courteous and polite and also went the extra mile to help advise when needed and take an interest in our s... The staff here is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. They are all so friendly and helpful from moment you check in, to checkout. The bellmen Daniel (both of them), Jesus, and Eduardo will keep you smiling the entire time with great service. And Maria, Mayra, and Cindy from the front desk are extremely knowledgeable about the city and had outstanding recommendations of places to visit and eat. The facilities are beautiful and every thing is spotless clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the walk to the bea... Read more

Stayed here last year when they just opened, and there were some glitches, we were so happy to see that all went very well this trip. The room was great, a corner suite with a beautiful large bathroom. Service was impeccable, we would like to mention Natalia the front desk manager who made us feel very welcome. Would definitely come back soon to this property and can highly recommend a corner suite if possible

Great location in the region of Bocagrande. Near the tip of the bay. Stands high above the other properties giving you the sense of being away from the crowds below. A great hotel. Interior decorated to the minimum but tastefully decorated. Pool area unfortunately has no shaded areas besides hiding around the corner at the area for smokers. Beautiful clean rooms. Service surprisingly very good. A true Sun International hotel living up to the standards of its group of companies. The casino Ri... Read more

The hotel is absolutely immaculate however having said that the exterior (windows) need a real good clean. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, especially around the pool area ( MATHIEUS ). I would genuinely recommend this hotel, we have stayed in Intercontinental hotels around the world and yes the standard may be higher in London or wherever but also more expensive, but here this hotel was reasonably priced and genuinely really very good. This is a very nice hotel overall, and I would like to separate this review into pros and cons: Pros: 1. Staff: The staff is amazing, Mayra who was the lady that helped with the check in was very welcoming, but the real star of this hotel is the women in charge of the eggs at the buffet, she was awesome, we laughed with her every morning and she even helped me when I was feeling sick one day. She is the star of this hotel! 2. Pool: The pool is amazing, the view is gorgeous and you cant come o... Read more

This is a very nice hotel in excellent condition, everything is new with an infinity pool with DJ lounge music looking to the sea, good for drinks. Has 2 restaurants, the food is ok. The service is excellent. Staff always greeted extra special and they will get anything you need. Located next to a casino and next to a shopping mall with restaurants , cinema, coffee shops, etc. the beach is just crossing the street. They do not offer chairs and umbrellas but they are cheap to get there. Also you... Read more

From the entrance welcoming (Juan and Julio), to the front desk check-in girls (Mayra, Cindy, Isis, and Maria). A wonderful hotel restaurant breakfast buffet and a variety dinner menu to choose. Excellent hotel, friendly and helpful staff. The location on Bocagrande is right in the heart of all that area has to offer. It's not too far from the walled city. It's a 10 minute taxi ride. They even helped me practice my Spanish!

I have traveled around the world and this was one of the best hotels i've ever stayed at. The hotel was incredibly clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful and we mentioned it was our 2 year anniversary to one of the bartenders and they sent up a free bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries! This rather be hotel is located at the end of Boca Grande neighborhood in a prime location, right in front of the beach but also conveniently located to visit the old city. I have been traveling to Cartagena for the past 7 years and have stayed at various hotels. Knowing this hotel was new, I wanted to try it. I discounted the early reviews (which mentioned just a few minor issues) as "new construction" kinks. Now for my review....This hotel just blew me away. The room is good, hotel new and staff very positive. Nevertheless, the offer is not an Intercontinental offer. No coffee machine in the room, we are used to it in such hotels, no complimentary water we have to buy it at an expensive price or drink tap water. A shame! No newspaper and no TV channel in French language. Breakfast stays poor for the standard of the hotel. Colombia is a rich country as far as fruits are concerned. The breakfast fruit offer was average for example. Last point from ... Read more

Located by the beach, the hotel has beautiful ocean view. With a lovely and well trained staff, the hotel will make your stay a good one. A quick taxi ride (approximately 10 min) from the hotel can take you to the old city and the beautiful walls. The hotel is a modern and comfortable option. My short stay here was just that, way too short and to make it up, I can't wait to get back here. From the moment I arrived the hospitality and professionalism of the entire staff was top notch. Located in the Bocagrande district and right across the street from the beach, this hotel is one of the best hotels in Cartagena for the price. I used to be an Ambassador member for many years as I traveled weekly. I've read some of the comments, and we too, had some hiccups when coming to this property from Santa Marta. It took four hours for our suite to be ready - we arrived around 3pm, and it wasn't ready until around 7pm in the evening, even though we pre-paid, and pre-booked. The suite... Read more

A warm welcome at reception erased the inconvenience of having the previously arranged hotel transportation not showing up at the airport after our diverted flight landed. The suite provided was large and beautiful. My corner unit viewed the pool and the coast line. The touches were as expected from an intercontinental hotel with a couple exceptions of not having the ability to make a cup of tea or coffee in the room and light switches that did not operate any lights or power outlets. ... I booked an 8 night stay here and left on the second day. The reason, you ask? Well... on the second morning of my trip, my guest and I were enjoying drinks (coffee and orange juice) in the bar off the lobby when we were advised that prostitution was not permitted in their hotel. I'm not sure if I looked like a John, or he looked like a hooker (or both) but neither assumption was correct and both are deeply offensive. I stayed three nights in the old city of Cartagena and the last night I wanted to check out the new part of the city (Boca Grande) and I stayed at the InterContinental. This hotel is brand new and beautiful. It has an infinity pool that looks out to an amazing ocean view! At check in they upgraded my room to a high floor with the most beautiful ocean view. This hotel is an intercontinental in name only. I have stayed at intercons in Paris, Nairobi, Bali and many other places and they have all been fantastic. This one is the exception. Poor service, quite incompetent staff (at all levels) and the food is not so good. There are many options other than this hotel. I could not believe they did not vacuum the room for two days and when I asked them they sent towels to my room, so I used them to cover the floor. No wonder the hotel has such low rankings... Stayed here with a friend for 4 nights - got a good price for B&b via hotels own website. Rooms are great - large US style with 2 big beds - air con is invaluable - pool is nice - service is ok (not 5*). Drinking options limited though a roof top bar is planned.
