I loved staying at the Twelve at Hengshan Hotel and can highly recommend to visitors whether it is for business or leisure. The room was fantastic - great size and had lovely little details and amenities. I loved the ambience of the whole hotel. I was immediately greeted by friendly staff who were more than happy to help where needed throughout my stay. The location is great - close to shops and lots of fantastic little restuarants. I will definitely go back and stay at this hotel again.

So many good points, where do i start. The hotel rooms were nice and big, everything you need you will be able to find within. The staff were excellent, anticipating all my needs even before I had to ask. The area where is hotel is in is great, nice and quiet but not far from places you need to go. The pool and 24hr gym were also beautiful and functional.. the list goes on... Seriously consider this place when in Shanghai. You feel like you're on holiday the moment you walk in.

Everything about our stay was 5 stars. The staff was friendly, very welcoming, and professional. It was a good, quiet escape from normal life in Shanghai. We will definitely be returning in the near future & recommending the hotel to friends and families.

Very nice hotel, only downside is the surrounding may not be very convenient. It os located at hengshan road, used to be a popular hangout area with nice pubs bars. However, it is a nice area to walk around, nice building, nice trees. Located above a subway station helps too

Nice location just right next to subway exit. Modern/designed interior decoration. Also a new hotel so everything inside the room is in quite good condition. Awesome swimming pool, which is surprisingly big. Nice and friendly service.

Convenient hotel located directly above a subway stop and within a 10-20 minute walking distance to everything in the French concession, including nice bars and restaurants. It feels a bit like a modern art museum!

I was leaving Shanghai to move back to the USA when I realized I've packed up my bed and didn't have a place to stay for 2 days. This hotel was near my house so I booked my last 2 days in Shanghai here. What a lucky find this was! Not only was it clean and beautiful, but spacious and very modern! There was a switch by the bed to open the curtains! However, you can ONLY open and close the curtains with this switch. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I've found Chinese hospitality ... Stayed for 3 days business trip. Good size room and comfortable beds like all SPG luxury collection. Apart from that, service is lacking. For instance, breakfast quality is poor and staff not well trained - eg A) asked the manager Frank Liu for Earl Grey tea, even after he acknowledged there was no tea. walked to remind him once, twice, and finished my meal. About to leave the hall before the tea arrives. B) most wait staff don't u set stand basic English , in the juice station- guests had to p... Read more

I smelled something like toilet pipe on the hallway. It surprised me it happened at the Luxury Collection. Room definitely comfortable and beautiful, which is meeting the standard of "Luxury Collection". However, breakfast buffet was terrible. The choices were limited. With the price I paid for, I would rather choose the other SPG property in Shanghai.

At Shanghai, where ostentation is a "necessity", this hotel offers a refreshing alternative. Its entrance is grand, but unassuming. Lobby is airy but sparsely decorated, no gaudy chandeliers - thank you. I booked a standard room on 6th floor. It is very spacious, with ample storage, and lounge area. Basic amenities are all present at the mini-bar. Bathroom is huge, again with separate shower compartment. Touch screens control lighting in room, and work very smoothly. Panels decorated in Chinois... Read more

It's an odd building, lobby feels more like an office block than a hotel but the rooms are very nice. Breakfast is good, service is good for China, location is great for strolling to nightlife and restaurants. other reviewers have already pointed out, what's up with that sewer stink in the lobby?

I think it is the best SPG hotel in Shanghai. I stayed there with my mom who is visiting Shanghai in May. the location is very central, convenient to go anywhere in taxi or by metro. The deco and design was awesome. Service was perfect with warm welcome from reception and quick response for inquiries. Lounge offers variety of food and drinks during happy hour. The room around the garden side was awesome with balcony and view of the whole garden, quiet and peaceful. The small bamboo forest with w... Read more

Recently returned to Shanghai and chose Twelve@Hengshan again. Room service was good, breakfast buffet variety was top including the service staff. The gym remains very well maintained and like to commend on the fantastic attitude of the service staff (from restaurant service staff to gym staff). Quality service but the rooms have started to aged especially the shower facilities. Not sure about other rooms but mine did feel very worn out. Hope something will be done to upkeep a class accommodati... Read more

Yes, the location is nice and the lobby is very stylish. Also all the printing materials are great and the pool/sauna/gym area are very nice. Also the rooms are quite nice. But this hotel sells it self as a luxury hotel.... And if considered a luxury hotel I have to give it an average. It smelled weird in the hallways, the staff is not that attentive as it should be and the arrangement of the room seemed odd to us. The breakfast was very average and there the service was even under average. Als... Read more

checked in on July 23rd to be surprised by my first "Luxury Collection" experience. it was my first visit to this hotel. SPG platinum status made no difference. the welcome fruit was mouldy. at breakfast, the first plate i picked up was dirty. took another one and still dirty. 3rd one was clean. i passed the two dirty plates to the waitress...... my coffee was poured into a cold cup so it was lukewarm. Same for room service food. i ordered a noodle soup, they did not heat the bowl before serv... Read more

Twelve at Hengshan was a such a lovely hotel to stay. We checked in on 2 August and stayed for 4 nights. We stayed on level 6 courtyard room which was so spacious and lovely, really nothing to fault! It was our first time in Shanghai and it was such a big and busy city so we felt we needed a place to rest and recharge ourselves during our travel. This was the perfect hotel, not only the hotel was beautiful what made our stay so special was the staff at Twelve at Hengshan. Everyone who we dealt ... Read more

Full disclosure : this is not my first stay at this hotel, but I felt the need to give it a review as it has deteriorated. The good news - the rooms are large and the bathrooms spacious. The hightech toilet bowl (with Japanese style gadgetry) and the automatic night lights are an interesting touch. The staff is friendly and makes an attempt to help out.Nice big gym with sufficient equipment and a decent sized pool. The not so good news - Very few of the staff can communicate in English, which c... Read more

I stayed at the hotel a few times in the last 3 years. The first time I stayed, I arrived around 5 pm and I cannot check in because the room was not ready. A little annoyed but didn't make any complaint. Last week, I stayed again and instructed front desk not to call/knock on my door before noon as I was going to have a real late night but still woke up to banging sound on the window at 9+ am due to windows cleaning. I had higher expectations of a premium hotel charging prices higher than all th... Read more

I had a fantastic time staying at Twelve. The staff was wonderful, and the room was very nice. The food was pretty delicious as well.. My only complaint was the humidity inside of the room. Granted, I'm in China in the summer, but so it was so humid in the room I felt like I was having cold sweats at night. Other than that, I would highly recommend. Oh, and the subway station is literally under the hotel, so quite accessible and convenient.

Having stayed at the Twelve at Hengshan a few years before, I was looking forward to a return visit given it's excellent location in the French Concession and serene hotel environment. Some of the recent reviews had me a little wary, but all in all we had a comfortable stay and I can still recommend the hotel. Arriving at 8 pm, we were surprised when checking in that our room wasn't yet ready ‚??although we only had to wait a few minutes before we were on our way. As on my first stay, we wer... Read more

On arrival you are pretty much disoriented. Walking through the entrance there is no sense of arrival. More like hey now try to find the reception. If there would be plenty staff around telling you what to do, where to go, then fine. But there wasn't. At check in they could not find my Agoda booking. My office girl somehow booked but didn't confirm. So I stood there for 15 minutes or more while the receptionist checked documents, searched his system on his screen, made like 3 or 4 phone calls. ... Read more

We stayed here for 5 nights on a recent visit to Shanghai and was very impressed. The location in the French Concession is well located with plenty of good dining and drinking options close by. My Starwood level was recognized and we were given an upgrade. The rooms are. Eric clean and spacious. Whilst there is no "Starwood Lounge" as such Platinum members can enjoy drinks and canapés in the bar. The staff were very friendly and efficient. A good breakfast selection is available however food in... Read more

I love this hotel after staying for years at the Westin Bund. This hotel has all of the trappings of a boutique hotel in a great location in the French Concession, Xuhui District of Shanghai. Easy walk to so many great restaurants in a very safe area just outside CBD near many embassies. I would recommend this location to everyone. The only drawback at times is a spontaneous taxi however the concierge manages this expertly. The hotel restaurants are great and the Chef who is Canadian and h... Read more

Came for a week for a business trip to China. No idea if better hotels can be found for the price in Shanghai, but I was very satisfied. Good central location right on the Line 1 metro so it's easy to get around town. Room was super comfortable, and more luxurious than I expected. The pool is great too, and long enough to swim laps. My complaint would be that they need to leave more bottled water. I drank everything provided every day, and always was hunting for more.

Stayed here in March 2016. The property was beautiful. Check in was a breeze, the gentleman checking me in was very nice and helpful. My room was amazing. I stayed for 4 days and the hotel was very quite, there was never really busy. I did not visit the buffet or pool because this was my first time in China and I was a little intimidated by being alone so very far from home. My room was very quiet, no problems with noise. The hotel has free car parking which is nice. No SPG loyalty so for anyone looking for SPG upgrade forget about it. Twelve at Hengshan is located in a nice and quiet area but also convenient to everywhere in Puxi in Shanghai. Excellent design and you will love the garden. I haven't been back for a while but the property is very well maintained and exceeds my expectation. As an SPG Gold and FHR program, I was offered a larger room with balcony. Very spacious and good amenities. Free Wifi provided. Enjoyed the in-room breakfast. This property will be an excellent to all SPG (and now Marriott!) elite members to ... Read more
