Shanghai is a large city but the central city river area is fairly compact and this hotel location is good for walking and touring that city experience. There are a number of bars and restaurants in the area that are a good mix of local and semi-western bars also. Make sure to get a river view room - by far the best part of the hotel is the nice older atmosphere along with great views of the Bund and Pudong along the river. The hotel rooms are normal Chinese standard with very hard beds. The hot... Read more

Situated next to the Russian Consulate, and facing the Shanghai People Yingxiong Memorial Tower just across the Wusong River, this quite ordinary three star hotel has one great advantage over all the others. Provided that you get an odd numbered room (we were in 801) you will have the very best possible view of the Bund, taking in the sweep of the Huangpu River. It's an old-fashioned but (internally) attactive building with full length windows (they partly open) and you can look out left to P... Read more

When I first saw the pictures provided on the web page, it seems that the room view is stunning, which is actually true. But, let me tell you some more about it first. Yes, it is really great view...river crossing the old and the new buildings...beautiful! But the window in room can be opened in full...just a little by side on left and right, but the main glass surface is fixed...so basically you can not open the window, just to let some air inside. The other good thing is location, which is rea... Read more

I have stayed at this hotel on two occasions. It has a river view and is situated on the Bund overlooking the Pearl Tower. If you book a river view, you can relax and watch the pretty lit tourist boats going to and fro at night - wonderful experience. If on a bed and breakfast basis, there is something for everyone. From bacon to cereal, Chinese too of course. The rooms are traditional and very comfortable.

The view from my room was good, but that was the only redeeming point of this hotel. The rooms were old, slightly dirty and had a musky smell. I was not going to leave a bad review but I just discovered that they had charged me for my stay in SGD instead of the local currency RMB, which I had explicitly requested for. Travellers, beware.

Location location location! This riverfront restaurant has probably the best view. The food is great too. You can choose western food or Chinese food. I had the best braised pork in Shanghai style at this restaurant. It was a perfect dinner on the Bund!

If your after a rude check-in and stinky rooms as well as not to mention booking cancelled and CC still changed/held then definitely book this place! Staying here for 2 night I was quite upset with the service 1. Our booking ( river view room) was cancelled 2. We were served but a VERY RUDE n I mean VERY RUDE staff member her name I didn't get as no name badge was worn 3. We then had to have down grade room as they booked our initial room out! 4. It was a smoking level which I specifically as... Read more

The hotel in a prime location with a beautiful view of the Bund(that's what you pay for). The rest of the reviews are all true as the the rooms are a bit stuffy but still clean, night reception was not very friendly.

We walked along the Bund then stopped here for our evening meal for the views. The restaurant was busy and a great atmosphere. Mostly Chinese families and groups and the food looked amazing. We chose from the vast menu and the good arrived promptly. Staff were helpful although the language barrier made it difficult at times for us. Very pleasant meal. Great food. (Can't comment on accommodation.)

Did not stay here but shared a great evening with friends at the riverside bar. Great place for a sundowner in Shanghai with the bustle of the Bund . Local beer good and a big cocktail list prices reasonable for the area

The rooms are clean and reasonably spacious, with sitting chairs, a desk and small table in addition to the usual furniture. The views of the Bund and the river are fantastic. The breakfasts are a mixture of mostly Chinese dishes (cabbage, fried rice, fried noodles, rice gruel, stewed tomatoes...) and western (bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, yogurt, fruit). It was one of the few hotels in China that served coffee. It is a short walk to the Bund, Nanjing Road and the waterfront esplanade. The... Read more
