Reliable Hotel in the centre of the city close to good food, shopping, metro and the Bund. All the facilities were brilliant and the room too was spacious and a good retreat. The offerings for Breakfast needs attention though. The choice for those seeking healthy options was limited, while there was an abundance of items that were sweet, fried and savoury. E.g. Among cereals, not one of the eight varieties was low sugar and no oatmeal either. Secondly I found reception staff were not really list... Read more

Although a bit more expensive than other Marriotts in Shanghai, this is a good location with good service. Rooms are comfortable and roomy enough. A bit more counter space in the bathrooms would be nice! The only other small nudge I have is that the costs of drinks (tea and coffee) are crazy here...$10 for a coffee and $8 for an iced tea is just too high!

I stayed here twice on business in April. On the first occasion I had a standard room, it was slightly dated but well equipped with a comfortable bed and large desk. The bathroom was ok with a shower over a bath and a decent selection of amenities. On my second visit my colleague and I were upgraded to a two bedroom suite which was a real step up. On the ground floor were the two bedrooms; each bedroom was large with a sitting and desk area and en suite bathroom, including separate shower. Above... Read more

Have stayed here couple of times on Business and its the usual Marriott excellence. Good room with all the modern amenities. Good food nice bar great gym. Its also in a pretty good location as well. Also please note the hotel allows guests to smoke in most of the common areas like lobby extra...they do have a designated area however you can still smell the smoke

I've stayed at this hotel 10 times in the past 8 years and I've seen it go from great to good...This last visit the whole staff were rookies. Poorly trained, the food service was awful and the bar service was worse. The rooms are a bit long in the tooth and even the doorman and bell service were non-existent. It needs a turnaround...quick! Oh, and about the price...better places at 25% less.

This hotel is absolutely perfect for your upcoming business trip! It has nice rooms, continental breakfast, good facilities, a warmly recommended executive lounge, great wifi and last but not least wonderful staff. Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and will definitely come back. Perfect and comfortable stay, highly recommended in every way. Ps. Big plus for the two giraffes grazing right next door ;)

This hotel has one of the best staff in China, but we don't choose a 5-star hotel just to meet fantastic staff. When we choose a five star hotel, we expect a 5 star whole experience and this is where they terribly fall short. Rooms are small and tired, some infrastructure and plumbing are failing, most rooms donâ??t have a separate shower, and no hand shower. I loved this location but sadly I had to say good bye and choose another hotel in Hongqiao are.

I found a comfortable environment with great care from all the people service and kindness. The rooms are large, clean and tidy. Also the self service restaurant is rich and very good. There is also e very good Japanese restaurant on the first floor with a big variety of Japanese cousine. The executive lounge is very quiet and comfortable too.

in general, staff possess moderately good English, but there are some black sheep who are not consistent and persistent in speaking English to Asian customers. Maybe better staff training is needed so that all staff (including all the managers who are westerners themselves) are professional enough to serve not only westerners, but also Asians who are not (China born) Chinese. I never had such bad experience in other Marriotts outside of China. on the other hand, I ordered a Shanghai noodle to ... Read more

Our stay in Marriott Hongqiao has been a wonderful experience. We lived on the executive floor for one and half month and the people there have made it feel so much at home. Our special gratitude to Tom and Simon and their team in showing great hospitality and friendships. We are greatly touched by their exceptional service and attention to detail about everything. We are leaving for our permanent home in Shanghai in a few days and we will surely miss the people in Marriot executive floor.

An April review states that the ATM machines have been removed. We found an ATM for bank cards as well as one to exchange American dollars for RMBs near reception in the lobby. Unless you get there just as a large tour group is arriving, the process is quick and simple. Our rooms and amenities were quite ordinary. I would certainly try another hotel the next time I'm in Shanghai.

Staying at this hotel was superb from the moment I was greeted at the door and guided to the reserved room to checkout. When things are smooth and effortless at a hotel , it is experience at its best. Great quality, courtesy, and care, with great team, every single one at guest relations, registration, housekeeping, restaurants, concierge, lobby, and others. I would like to mention two of the role models on behalf of others: Pan Xue of guest relations and Peter in Concierge, for their superb role... Read more

My three kids and I went with my husband on a business trip to Shanghai and stayed at this hotel. Because we are a family of 5 we had to book two rooms and were expecting to be split up since the rooms weren't adjoining. I had read that this hotel caters to business travelers so I wasn't sure how great our stay would be with three young kids. Upon check in, we explained that we would like to have our rooms close for convenience and to our surprise they upgraded us to a two bedroom duplex suit... Read more

Ammenities were not restocked . Breakfast was good selection shame that the omelette chef couldn't cook - three times I had a half cooked tasteless excuse . Coffee was ordinary fresh juice was nice. Most Staff didn't speak English .

Stayed here for 1week on return visit to shanghai. Does everything you'd expect from a mariott and with the well established Champions bar its easy to hangout with a beer. Good location with an easy 15min walk to hongmei lu and good promixity to highway interchange and domestic airport. Will likely be back there in a few weeks and no problems with that

First let me tell you that this hotel is so worried about saving face that their apology literally says they are sorry that I misunderstood. I have visited Shanghai 6-7 times in the past 18 months. I have stayed at several US-style hotels, but I continue to choose the Marriott Hongqiao. The hotel is very clean and they have made recent renovations that make it more modern. The buffet is typical of most of the other hotels in China: lots of variety and well prepared. The service is excellent and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and will try their best to honor your request. The executive lounge is pleas... Read more

Was on business trip and stayed 5 nights. Friendly desk staff breezed through the registration process and got a free upgrade to executive level. Room and bed are comfortable despite general outlook of hotel feels old. Pool and gym facilities are great. Breakfast food choices are good. Upholding the Marriott's brand! The only downside is that the choices of restaurants around the hotel are limited and have to take a taxi to decent restaurants.

The hotel room that I have got is old and it's time for an upgrade. Luckily the floor that I am on is the same as the executive lounge and I met a nice gentleman at the lounge. His name is Simon Gu. He takes great care of all guest, very friendly and polite. If you are here, please do look for Simon and I am sure he will help you feel at home. The next thing that I am happy about is the wonderful gym that has many equipment that are new. Had a great week working out.

Over the last years I have been several times to the Marriott Hongqiao hotel. Step by step has bee deteriorating in their service, amenities, etc. It was more than one year since I was there last time and I have found the hotel much worst in several areas. Starting with the breakfast, the offering and quality has been reduced significantly but not the price for it. Te same happens with the lunch buffet. Stayed here on a business trip. The hotel is very luxorious. Rooms are big and modern. Staff was very attentive. Food is great too. They also have a great workout space. If you are traveling via Hongqiao airport, the location is very convenient. The only downside is there is very little to do outside this hotel - there are no shops or restaurants within short walking distance.

Hi all, Just a friendly warning about this hotel. They are renovating 3 floors (6 till 8) since beginning of October therefore the executive lounge is closed. There is a substitute but no breakfast served there. Also because of the renovation, there is more noise in the hotel and their room capacity has gone down a lot.
